Thank you for a "friendly" post about Ramadan. I think it's pretty sad, that wherever I go - I see people saying bad things about us Muslims. Just stop it! Spend time with a Muslim, become a Muslim, read books about the religion of Islam - and learn about it. You can't say bad things about something you don't know anything about. Yeah, sure - some Muslims are terrorists, but the majority of us aren't. Quit the BS!

The real shame is what is going on in Lebanon. The used to be the safety valve where liberal free thinkers could escape their oppressive regimes.

I would like to congratulate His Majesty Obama on his brilliant and sweeping new Afghanistan policy. Not only has he shorted his field commander the troops he requested by 25%, it took him more time to do this than it took Allied commanders to plan and execute the invasion of North Africa during World War II, which utilized a 125,000 man Anglo-American force. A truly brilliant demonstration of wartime leadership, your Majesty...

I have often wondered about why Moderate Muslims do not protest terrorism done in the name of Islam. My liberal friends have assured me its not do to the lack of moderate Muslims but because they are terrified of the backlash from radical Muslims. That might be true, fear of death can be a motivation to stay quite. But if that's true, doesn't that make radical islam even more dangerous if a minority can silence a majority like that? Does that mean radical islam is even more scary if its that powerful? Just something I have wondered about. What is the point of putting the list of 24 (or however many) Muslim groups which have been cleared by the state? On the list are only about 4 that I am familiar with, and the MSA, ICNA, ISNA and Islamic Relief do interfaith or assist the community in positive ways... Not only am I confused as to why any of those groups are on the list... I don't understand the point of listing them on the blog regarding the lone and angry, mentally troubled officer from texas?

Muslims have praying facilities all over the west.

Western countries cater to demands made by Muslims but we see no such thing in Muslims countries for their non-Muslim citizens or tourists.

There is no catering to non-Muslims even for prayer.

Most don't allow old churches to be repaired and you can't even take a Bible into Saudi Arabia.

Yes, why should we be understanding and accomodating toward people of faith? Because we are pluralist, kind and oh because there is nothing harmful about a girl praying. If she were sneaking out to smoke pot though.. at least it's not sharia... wait, praying is not a sharia issue... it's a muslim issue.
Sometimes I don't understand if you're really ever in favor of anything any Muslims do... EVER.

That is a friggin long report on MSA's, it's a shame I have no time to read it and prepare a rebuttle. However, I am too busy with my homework and running a number of events with PSU's MSA.
Everytime I stop by your web site, you have such awful things to say about other organizations and people. while I understand disagreeing with the implementation of Sharia law in some societies (lashing for pants, really?), I do not think it's fair to "paint us all with the same brush".
The report you have linked does not take into account the fact that MSA branches have very little responsibility toward the larger group. We do not pay dues, and we are not required to host any specific events.
Our group, for example, hosts an Islamic Awareness week as shown by the MSA national website and we volunteer with the homeless as the national website suggests. We also focus on inter-faith, cohosting with groups like the jewish Students, the student veterans, the Women's resource center and much more.
Your painting all muslims and all MSA's as Hamas-loving, Islamist projecting groups does nothing to further a group which in many Universities merely serves as a place to organize group prayer and be recognized as a campus group.

When supervisors, counselors and task forces members rely on subjective references of culture and mental illness, observers miss the signs specific to aggression referenced in post analysis. When observers focus specifically on aggressive behavior, the objective and culturally neutral signs of “aggression” standout, providing the opportunity to prevent these violent encounters.

Major Hasan was under surveillance by two Terrorist Task Forces, one with Department of Defense oversight and the other with FBI oversight. So why wasn’t he stopped?

The use of subjective/qualitative indicators, prone to stereotype individuals by culture or religion; versus quantitative indicators and the use of mental health references know to mislead and misconstrue, fails us repeatedly in our attempts to prevent acts of violence. Only when we use the specificity of “aggression” and its objective, culturally neutral indicators can we get-out-in-front of these acts of aggression and prevent them. Why are current systems uses on campus failing us?

The answer is quite simple – The military does not have an objective and culturally neutral system that collects information and evaluates it to determine the degree (or level) of aggression an individual is displaying, nor has it people who have a clear responsibility to observe and report this information.
