Sweden: The best Muslim state

"The best Islamic state is Sweden!" says local politician and imam Adly Abu Hajal (Moderate Party). All the important, basic principles are here.

As an imam he can write a letter to concerned parents who don't want their child to sleep with somebody before marriage.

"I call it to be boyfriend and girlfriend in the Muslim way," he says.

They promise to marry each other and the parents can breath freely. If the couple changes their mind, there's nothing more to it. They simply end it.

The moderate politician from Palestine lives in a little brick house in Fosie. He adopts Sharia - laws to solve relations disputes. Adly Abu Hajal is convinced that Western liberalism is the best basis for free religious expression. Speaker says goal of Islam is freedom

Progressive Muslim thinker Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im argued against the notion of the Islamic state during his lecture "Imagining and Realizing Progressive Islam: A Framework and Call to Action," Tuesday night in Bentley Hall.

"If you leave the possibility of an Islamic state alive, then someone is always going to try to make it happen. And when they do, you've got disasters, like what happened to Sudan," An-Na'im, who is from Sudan, said.

An-Na'im is a Professor of Law at Emory University and is the author of "Islam and the Secular State: Negotiating the Future of Shari'a." His lecture was the first of the Mohmoud Mohamed Taha Progressive Islam Lecture Series, put on by the Centers for African Studies and Southeast Asian Studies and supported by a two-year Social Science Research Council grant. Muslims 'planned creation of Islamic state in Scotland'

Two Muslims supporters of "violent jihad" discussed setting up a secret Islamic state in a remote part of Scotland, a court heard today.

Away from the prying eyes of the authorities, it would provide a safe haven for those who felt "oppressed", jurors were told.

It would also be run according to Sharia law and eventually be used as a base to "discreetly train" for attacks against non-believers. Read more ...
