New Obama Administration Muslim Appointee Echoes Muslim Brotherhood Positions

Dalia Mogahed
Islam Online, the Internet news portal associated with global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi, has interviewed Dalia Mogahed, one of two U.S. Muslims recently appointed to the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. In the interview, Ms. Mogahed repeats claims often made by the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. When asked how she saw her role as “an adviser on Islam,” for example, Ms. Mogahed replied:
“I would not say I am an advisor on Islam. I would say that it is my role to convey the facts about what Muslims think and feel. I see my role as offering the voices of the silenced majority of Muslims in America and around the world to the council so that our deliberations are informed by their ideas and wisdom. I believe that I was chosen because the administration cares about what Muslims think and wants to listen.”
Positing various plots and conspiracies to “silence” U.S. Muslims is a standard tactic of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. Read more ...

Osama and Me

Osama & Me
Cover story: Osama & Me - The remarkable story
of Robyn Mary Hutchinson,
the surfie chick who joined the jihad.
What a story.

The life and times of Rabiah Hutchinson are quite remarkable as told in this week’s issue of -The Weekend Australian Magazine.

Hutchinson, who grew up in Mudgee in NSW and Sydney’s northern beaches has transformed herself in her lifetime from surfie chick to a woman who has embraced radical Islam and is deemed a threat to national security because of her links to al-Qa’ida, the Taliban and Jemaah Islamiah (JI).

The magazine features an extract from a book on Hutchinson’s life - The Mother of Mohammed: by Sally Neighbour, an extract which also includes some fascinating details about the early political experiences of Osama bin Laden.

New Honor Killings Follow Same Old Template

Honorcide
By David J. Rusin

Though the February 12 beheading of Aasiya Hassan in upstate New York, allegedly at the hands of her husband, helped bring honor killings into the spotlight, it is just one of many to have taken place in the West during the past decade. Phyllis Chesler, in a seminal research paper published by the Middle East Quarterly, attempts to make sense of this trend by identifying characteristics that distinguish honor killings from ordinary domestic violence. In the former:
  • A Muslim girl or young woman is the victim, usually killed by her father or brother.
  • Immoral behavior dishonoring the family is cited as motivation.
  • The murder is carefully planned, with the approval or even participation of the family.
  • The murder may be especially brutal.
  • The family does not shun the killer, who may paint himself as the "real victim."
Three European honor killings recently in the news fit Chesler's criteria to a tee.

First, on February 13, German-Afghan Ahmad Obeidi was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his 16-year-old sister Morsal. Details of the slaying match the honor crime template: Family objections to her Western ways led to beatings. Then one night a cousin brought her to a train station, where the waiting Ahmad stabbed her with such ferocity that he injured himself. Remarkably, the chaotic sentencing provided yet more signs of an honor killing. Claiming the status of victim, the guilty man "yelled that had the trial taken place in Kabul, Afghanistan, he would have already been released long ago." In addition, the parents criticized the judge, "saying the girl bore some of the guilt for her own murder."

Second, also in Germany, a man of Kurdish descent confessed to killing his 20-year-old sister Gulsum. Once again, a family conspiracy laid the foundation for a gruesome murder: "Prosecutors said Gulsum was lured by a false story to the side road near the small town of Rees on March 2. Her sibling, who was also a triplet to Gulsum, allegedly choked her unconscious with a clothesline. She was then clubbed to death." Her father is likewise in custody. The motive was a typical one: "Police said the family had attempted to force Gulsum into a planned marriage and then discovered she was not a virgin and had undergone one or more abortions."

Third, a Muslim man in St. Petersburg, Russia, has admitted to contracting the April 8 murder of his daughter Rashida, 21, because she wore short skirts. The role of honor is quite clear: "The father's Muslim friends … started reproaching him for being negligent and allowing his daughter to walk around dressed like a fallen woman. They said the insult could only be washed away by blood." Her body was found in a garbage dump and two of the perpetrators have been arrested.

Honor killings are not lawful Islamism, as murder is unlawful. However, they represent a disturbing consequence of Islamist culture creeping into the West. Only by understanding the nature of such crimes can they be combated. The good news is that senior officials are starting to take notice; the bad news is that, for some young women, the recognition will come too late.

Nashville: Hospital pays $70,000 to Muslim after denying him time off for trip to Mecca

EEOC
By Janell Ross

Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville has agreed to pay a former employee $70,000 in damages after denying him time off to make a pilgrimage to Mecca but admitted no wrongdoing when it settled the religious discrimination case on Monday.

In late 2007, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit on behalf of Wali Telwar, a Muslim former Southern Hills medical technician who lives in Nashville.

He asked to visit Mecca

The hospital refused to allow Telwar to use just over 20 days of accumulated vacation time to take a trip to Mecca. Every Muslim is required to make the hajj — a pilgrimage to the Saudi Arabian birthplace of the Islamic religion and its prophet — in their lifetime.

Telwar, who had worked at the hospital for three years, also claimed he was told that if he insisted on attending the hajj he would have to quit his job and reapply when he returned.

Telwar resigned, according to the suit. When he returned, Southern Hills did not rehire him. The hospital hired three other medical technicians. Read more ...

Stop the presses! Algerian imam defends terrorism!

Algeria
ALGIERS, APRIL 30 - An Algerian imam has been sentenced to two years in prison for defending terrorist practices. The sentence was handed down by the court in Boumerdes, in Cabilia (50km east of Algiers), which is one of the areas worst-hit by attacks from Islamist armed groups. The Algerian press reports that the imam was arrested in 2008 as he tried to make contact with a member of the terrorist group, who had in fact been killed a week earlier by security forces. Mosques in the country - which in the 1990s formed a favourite pulpit for fundamentalists to incite revolt and violence against the state - are now under heavy surveillance. (ANSAmed). Read more ...

18% of Muslims in Denmark agree that "Sharia law should be integrated into Danish law"

Denmark
Close to a fifth of Muslims in Denmark want to see Sharia law implemented in Denmark. A study conducted by analysis institute Capacent for DR news shows that 18% of Muslims in Denmark declare they 'agree' or 'completely agree' with the statement: "Sharia law should be integrated into Danish law".

Sharia legislation is several hundred years old and built on principles from the Koan and report of the Prophet Muhammad's life.

But the notion of what sharia is, is interpreted very different by Muslims round the world.

In countries like Sudan, Nigeria and Iran sharia law means that adultery or stealing can lead to cutting off of hands or whipping. At the same time, there are laws which considerably place women worse off than men, which means that women can be refused the right to a divorce. Read more ...

FBI to Avoid Partnerships with CAIR

CAIR
U.S. media has reported on the FBI reaction to a threat by the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood to suspend outreach efforts with the FBI by saying that the agency would avoid “formally constructed partnerships” with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). According to a CNN report:
The FBI declined to comment on specific allegations but called the proposed move unproductive. “Limiting honest dialogue, especially when complex issues are on the table, is generally not an effective advocacy strategy,” spokesman John Miller said in a statement. Read more ...

Robert Spencer: Obama Busily Appeasing Jihadists

Obamerica

In Human Events today, I discuss the momentous first hundred days. And I expect that we ain't seen nothin' yet.

“To the Muslim world,” said Barack Obama in his Inaugural Address, “we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.” After 100 days, how’s that going?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad summed it up best, responding contemptuously to Obama’s offer to sit down to talk without preconditions and taunting Obama for his impotence: “We say to you that you yourselves know that you are today in a position of weakness. Your hands are empty, and you can no longer promote your affairs from a position of strength.”

Ahmadinejad is also turning Obama’s campaign promise against him. When Obama indicated that he wouldn’t impose preconditions on negotiations with Iran, the Iranian saw an opening. Now, he’s apparently demanding preconditions for the talks by pressuring Obama for concessions on the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Iran’s Thug-In-Chief spoke like an aggressor who has spotted an appeaser, and is determined to wring from him as many concessions as possible.

How has it come to this so quickly? Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano seem to have made it a top priority of their administration’s opening act to weaken our position with the Islamic jihadists:

• They quietly dropped the term “war on terror.” Napolitano even went so far as to say that she preferred to refer not to acts of “terrorism” but to “man-caused disasters” (NOW had no recorded comment about her sexist language). Meanwhile, a DHS report on “right-wing extremists” had no trouble referring to veterans and conservatives of all kinds as potential “terrorists.” This suggested a disquieting will to silence and demonize the political opposition, all the while regarding the real terror threat with extraordinary myopia.
• Obama named Los Angeles Times columnist Rosa Brooks as an advisor to the undersecretary of Defense for policy. Brooks is venomously anti-Israel and once wrote that al Qaeda was “little more than an obscure group of extremist thugs,” and that the Bush Administration had only imagined that it was a “vast global threat.”
• He has tapped Harold Koh to become the legal adviser for the State Department. Koh has said that he had no objection to Sharia’s being applied to “an appropriate case” in the United States.
• In a startling breach of protocol, Obama bowed deeply to the King of Saudi Arabia, implying an obeisance that isn’t going to free us from our dependence upon the oil sheikhs any time soon.
• While on a trip to Europe, he refused to visit the American Cemetery at Normandy, but made a point of visiting a mosque in Istanbul. He expressed, in an address to the Turkish Parliament, his “deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world—including in my own country.” It’s unclear how he thinks Islam has shaped the U.S., other than to lead to innovations in airport security. His statement did nothing but embolden the jihadists who have dedicated their efforts to bringing Islamic law to the West.
• Obama said also that “the United States is not and never will be at war with Islam” -- indicating that he had no intention of addressing the ideological challenge that Islamic jihadists present to the West, or of acknowledging the fact that although the U.S. is not at war with Islam, many Muslims consider Islam to be at war with the U.S.
• Obama invited to the White House the head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, a 56-nation body that has declared its intention to compel the United Nations to criminalize all criticism of Islam.
• He has declared his determination to open negotiations with “moderate elements” of the Taliban, despite the fact that no such people have ever been found.
• He has declared his determination to close Guantanamo, despite the fact that over 60 former Gitmo detainees have returned to the jihad.

All this and more in just 100 days.

The Obama Administration apparently doesn’t know the difference between appeasement and diplomacy. A diplomat will sell you and your nation for a price. An appeaser will give it away without getting anything in return.

British conclude combat in Iraq

Britain
Iraq

May 01

BASRA, Iraq: British forces formally ended combat operations in Iraq last night, one month ahead of schedule, after a ceremony to remember their dead from six years of warfare.

The conclusion of the military campaign, which began with the war that toppled Saddam Hussein launched in 2003, came as British Prime Minister Gordon Brown met his Iraqi counterpart, Nuri al-Maliki, in London.

"Today marks the closing chapter of the combat mission in Iraq," Mr Brown said. "The flag of 20 Armoured Brigade will be lowered as British combat patrols in Basra come to an end and our armed forces prepare to draw down."

"Today, we are taking steps to strengthen and deepen our relationship and to make it a long-term partnership of equals," he added.

A formal transfer-of-authority ceremony was held in the southern city of Basra after British forces paid tribute to their 179 colleagues killed since the US-led invasion of March 2003.

British troop numbers were the second-largest in the Iraq campaign, peaking at 46,000 at the height of combat operations that resulted in Saddam's ouster and his eventual execution for crimes against humanity.

The official withdrawal of forces was launched on March 31 when the pennant of the British headquarters in Basra was lowered and the base handed over to US control.

A deal signed by Baghdad and London last year had agreed that the last 4100 British soldiers would complete their mission - primarily training the Iraqi army - by June, before a complete withdrawal from the country in late July.

The names of the 179 soldiers, as well as those of 55 multinational forces personnel who died in British-led operations in the Basra area, were read out at the memorial service, which was attended by British Defence Secretary John Hutton.

The drawdown of foreign troops comes amid an upturn in violence last month.

A series of bombings, suicide attacks and shootings killed at least 48 people yesterday.

Barack Obama reveals his fears for Pakistan

Pakistan

Geoff Elliott, Washington correspondent | May 01

US President Barack Obama said yesterday he was "gravely concerned" about the stability of the Pakistani Government and did not rule out US intervention if the Islamic power's nuclear weapons fell into extremist hands.

In a prime-time news conference marking the 100-day milestone of his presidency, Mr Obama gave an assurance that, one way or another, Pakistan's nuclear arsenal would not fall into the hands of Islamic extremists.

He said he was confident "primarily, initially" because he believed Pakistan would handle the issue on its own. But he left the door open to eventual US action to secure the weapons if needed.

Pakistani army forces are at war with Taliban insurgents who have been advancing on Islamabad, and Mr Obama said he believed the Government was serious about fighting Islamic militants.

But Mr Obama said the civilian Government of President Asif Ali Zardari, who is due in Washington next week, was unable to provide basic services that would ensure people's loyalty.

"I am gravely concerned about the situation in Pakistan, not because I think that they're immediately going to be overrun and the Taliban would take over in Pakistan," Mr Obama said.

"I'm more concerned that the civilian Government there right now is very fragile."

"We want to respect their sovereignty, but we also recognise that we have huge strategic interests - huge national security interests - in making sure that Pakistan is stable and that you don't end up having a nuclear-armed militant state."

Pressed on whether the US would intervene if Pakistan's nuclear arsenal were under threat, Mr Obama said he would not respond to a hypothetical question.

Mr Obama, who has put a new focus on rooting out extremism in Pakistan and Afghanistan, has continued the previous administration's controversial drone attacks to kill terror suspects inside Pakistan. But Mr Obama also declared that the practice of waterboarding - simulated drowning, which was used on at least three terrorist detainees - violated US "ideals and values".

"I do believe that it is torture," the US President told the White House press corps when asked if waterboarding was torture.

"I don't think that's just my opinion; that's the opinion of many who've examined the topic. And that's why I put an end to these practices."

Bush administration officials, including former vice-president Dick Cheney, have admitted waterboarding was used on a limited number of detainees. It was confirmed in the so-called torture memos released by the Obama administration last month.

It was revealed that 9/11 planner Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was waterboarded more than 180 times but the Bush administration argued key plots were unveiled and the interrogation of Mohammed helped lead to the capture of Bali bombing architect Riduan "Hambali" Isamuddin.

But Mr Obama's statement yesterday was his most declarative statement so far as President that torture was used and it will embolden those calling for prosecutions of former Bush administration officials.

Mr Obama said the waterboarding and other methods dubbed enhanced interrogation techniques "corrodes the character of a country". He has banned the practices, saying "I am absolutely convinced that it was the right thing to do". "Not because there might not have been information that was yielded by these various detainees who were subjected to this treatment, but because we could have gotten this information in other ways - in ways that were consistent with our values, in ways that were consistent with who we are."

He said he believed that the steps taken to prevent these kind of enhanced interrogation techniques would make "us stronger over the long term, and make us safer over the long term because it will put us in a position where we can still get information".

"In some cases, it may be harder. But part of what makes us, I think, still a beacon to the world is that we are willing to hold true to our ideals, even when it's hard, not just when it's easy."

Al-Qa'ida sleeper agent pleads guilty

Ali al-Marri

May 01

AL-QA'IDA sleeper agent Ali al-Marri, who was held by the United States without trial for more than five years as an "enemy combatant", has pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to terrorism.

Marri, who was the last “enemy combatant” held on US soil, faces a maximum of 15 years in jail after reaching a deal with prosecutors to drop a second charge in exchange for the guilty plea.

He will be sentenced on July 30.

Marri admitted to attending several terrorist training camps in Pakistan from 1998 to 2001.

While there, he said he met Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, considered the architect of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Marri entered the United States on September 10, 2001 with his wife and children ostensibly to study at an Illinois university.

The next day Al-Qa'ida launched its attacks, and Marri was arrested two months later in Illinois on credit card fraud charges.

Unlike the detainees held at the US Naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Marri was a legal US resident when he was first arrested.

The Defence Intelligence Agency accused him of being a “sleeper agent” who met terror mastermind Osama bin Laden and was assigned to hack into US financial system computers.

His case was transferred to civil court on February 26 when he was formally indicted on charges of providing support to Al-Qaeda and conspiring with others to do the same.

UPDATE: "Faith Fighter 2" Just Released!

In the wake of yesterday's announcement that Italian gamers Molleindustria have pulled their online game "Faith Fighter" following pressure from the OIC, Saudi Arabia-based Islamophobia Observatory of the Organization, today The Times Online is reporting that the gamers have uploaded a more loving version of the game: Faith Fighter 2.

Here's Molleindustria's description:
Faith Fighter 2 is the sequel of the infamous game that outraged over 1.3 billions of muslims from 57 countries. The scandal resulted in a ban from all the internets!

We regretted the use of irony and violence and this time we want to offer you a positive, nonviolent educational game that teaches the universal values of tolerance and respect. This is a very simple game that can be played by children of all ages, religious leaders and even journalists!
Faith Fighter 2 says that players must love all the figures equally in order to survive.

The first version of Faith Fighter featured Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, God, and Ganesha fighting each other with kicks, spheres and thunderbolts a la cartoons. The accompanying guide read: "Choose your belief and kick the s*** out of your enemies. Give vent to your intolerance!" The gamers intended the game to be an ironic commentary on religious intolerance.

The Times Online added this from the gamers: "In few hours this statement generated a way more heated reaction than the release of the game. We are not "bowing to the fundamentalists", we have no sympathy for any religion but we are aware that Muslims are victim of widespread racism in the western world."
