ABU DHABI // Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, emphasised last night to a group of Muslim scholars the importance of their role in spreading a moderate Islamic message.
Sheikh Khalifa, who was hosting a group of religious academics and preachers for Ramadan at Bateen Palace, urged his guests to promote Islam’s essential values of tolerance and mercy in their teachings while remaining up-to-date on modern changes and developments in the faith, reported the government news agency WAM.
He also stressed the principles of Islam are based on friendliness, tolerance and goodwill and that the duty of scholars, through their preachings, is to guide Muslims to follow such core principles of the faith.
“The mandate of scholars is to preach what Allah loves and satisfies through modes that mirror the great teachings of Islam and its immortal message,” Sheikh Khalifa told the audience.
