On September 13th Yonat Shimron published a story in News & Observer criticizing nationwide distribution of "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West" Among other "pearls", Shimron describes Dr. Daniel Pipes & Steven Emerson as "prominent anti-Muslim pundits" and claims that "Muslims across the nation ... said they are disappointed by the film" using the quote from Khalilah Sabra of Muslim American Society, a Muslim Brotherhood front. Of course there is no mention of how moderate Muslims feel about the film. Obsession has been praised by American Islamic Forum for Democracy, Muslims Against Sharia, and other moderate Muslim organizations. Below is the letter emailed to Yonat Shimron by Gramfan. So far (imagine that!) has been no reply.
Dear Sir,
My only surprise is putting the dvd out into the public arena as it has been, although I believe people should know about these things. Funny how no broadcaster took it up. Too politically incorrect?
The content of the dvd is factual and accurate. It is Islamists stating their goals in their own words without being prompted.
I am getting rather tired of the 'moral equivalence' line that suggests it is just like Nazism when in fact it is nothing of the kind.
No one is suggesting all Muslims be rounded up into cattle trucks. Should something like this ever occur, and I doubt it will, Muslims have many places to escape to if they need to. Jews in Europe had nowhere to go. This is a specious argument to say the least.
You would be more helpful if you made a bigger issue about moderate Muslims who want no part of this extremism and look to their fellow-citizens to help wipe out said extremism.
Muslims are being killed by Muslims daily, more than are being killed by non-Muslims.These are the people who should be supported.
>>>Despite the disclaimer, the film features prominent anti-Muslim pundits, including Daniel Pipes, Steven Emerson and Walid Shoebat, who told the Springfield News-Leader -- a Missouri daily -- that "Islam is not the religion of God -- Islam is the devil."<<<
Re your quote above: These people are anti-Islamist, not anti-Muslim. Misleading. There are many people, academics and others, who recognise the threat of extremism as the biggest hurdle to world peace. That is the point of this film.
At least some of the comments on your site show a few people understand what is going on, and others just want to remain blind to reality.
