The Salafi-jihadi movement Shabab Al-Mujahideen, which controls large parts of Somalia and has imposed Islamic law in the regions under its rule, is recently facing a wave of opposition in the country. Several groups have launched an armed struggle against it in Mogadishu and elsewhere, while politicians and journalists have been criticizing it harshly. An example is an article by Somali journalist Ayanle Daad Ali accusing the movement of violence, incompetence and corruption, and calling upon it to disband.
