Alan M. Dershowitz: Ex-President For Sale

Carter
Jimmy Carter is making more money selling integrity than peanuts.

I have known Jimmy Carter for more than 30 years. I first met him in the spring of 1976 when, as a relatively unknown candidate for president, he sent me a hand written letter asking for my help in his campaign on issues of crime and justice.

I had just published an article in The New York Times Magazine on sentencing reform, and he expressed interest in my ideas and asked me to come up with additional ones for his campaign.

Shortly thereafter, my former student Stuart Eisenstadt, brought Carter to Harvard to meet with some faculty members, me among them. I immediately liked Jimmy Carter and saw him as a man of integrity and principle. I signed on to his campaign and worked very hard for his election.

When Newsweek magazine asked his campaign for the names of people on whom Carter relied for advice, my name was among those given out. I continued to work for Carter over the years, most recently I met him in Jerusalem a year ago, and we briefly discussed the Mid-East.

Though I disagreed with some of his points, I continued to believe that the was making them out of a deep commitment to principle and to human rights.

Recent disclosures of Carter's extensive financial connections to Arab oil money, particularly from Saudi Arabia , had deeply shaken my belief in his integrity.

When I was first told that he received a monetary reward in the name of Shiekh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan, an d kept the money, even after Harvard returned money from the same source because of its anti-Semitic history, I simply did not believe it.How could a man of such apparent integrity enrich himself with dirty money from so dirty a source?

And let there be no mistake about how dirty the Zayed Foundation is. I know because I was involved, in a small way, in helping to persuade Harvard University to return more than $2 million that the financially strapped Divinity School received from this source.

Initially I was reluctant to put pressure on Harvard to turn back money for the Divinity School, but then a student at the Divinity School Rachael Lea Fish -- showed me the facts.

They were staggering. I was amazed that in the 21st century there were still foundations that espoused these views. The Zayed Centre for Coordination and Follow-up - a think-tank funded by the Shiekh and run by his son hosted speakers who called Jews "the enemies of all nations," attributed the assassination of John Kennedy to Israel and the Mossad and the 9/11 attacks to the United States' own military, and stated that the Holocaust was a "fable."

(They also hosted a speech by Jimmy Carter.) To its credit, Harvard turned the money back. To his discredit, Carter did not. Read more here ...

Harvard Muslim chaplain sees "wisdom" of Islamic death penalty for apostasy

Taha Abdul-Basser
"Great wisdom" in killing apostates, he said
By Melody Y. Yu

Harvard Islamic chaplain Taha Abdul-Basser ’96 has recently come under fire for controversial statements in which he allegedly endorsed death as a punishment for Islamic apostates.

In a private e-mail to a student last week, Abdul-Basser wrote that there was “great wisdom (hikma) associated with the established and preserved position (capital punishment [for apostates]) and so, even if it makes some uncomfortable in the face of the hegemonic modern human rights discourse, one should not dismiss it out of hand.”

The e-mail was forwarded over Muslim student e-mail lists and later picked up by the blogosphere, sparking debate and, in many cases, criticism of Abdul-Basser from those who have interpreted his statement as supporting the execution of those who leave the Islamic religion. Read more ...

What Should Be the Punishment for Apostasy (Leaving Islam)?

I am a Muslim
There is no compulsion in religion; anyone is free to leave Islam
Apostasy should be a punishable offence
Death sentence is the only just punishment for apostasy

Harvard University: Sedition by any other name

Harvard
For those of you following the lurch by the U.S. Treasury to attract as much Wahhabi-Jihadist cash as possible from the terror-sponsoring Jihad states of the Gulf all in the name of arresting our current finanical-credit crisis, you know that there is a pre-condition: Shariah compliance.

Go to our Related Posts link below to get a quick read backgrounder on all of this.

Now we find out the U.S. Treasury is co-hosting a seminar on Thursday right after we have crowned Obama as King Tut on how to bow down to the altar of Allah's Shariah while taking advantage of all of that cash. We have attached the announcement above in the downloadable pdf file (click on the title of this blog to get to its unique url first). (Word has it that David Yerushalmi is preparing litigation for the DC District Court to enjoin the whole affair. The point of the litigation is to finally force these government sycophants to actually address the real question: before you start cheerleading for Shariah-compliant finance, don't you think you ought to know what Shariah is and what it says about Jihad against the infidel West? Update No. 1: we heard directly from Mr. Yerushalmi: law suit is less likely due to "standing" issue; he said he doesn't mind a real challenging lawsuit if it deals with the substance of the issue: Shariah's sedition; he does not want to get bogged down in a procedural morass. He says he'll make a decision by Monday.) Read more ...

Teaching Arabic and Propaganda

Harvard
By Joel B. Pollak

At Harvard, the star of Arabic A is a girl named Maha. Maha Muhammed Abulaal, to be precise. She's the pouty protagonist in the melodrama that runs throughout "Al-Kitaab," the standard beginning text in Arabic classes at Harvard and other American universities.

We are taught to speak our first Arabic sentences by expressing Maha's incurable angst. We learn in Chapter 1 that Maha is desperately lonely. In later chapters, we are told that she hates New York, has no boyfriend and resents her mother.

Soon we encounter her equally depressing relatives in Egypt -- such as her first cousin Khalid, whose mother died in a car accident and who was forced to study business administration after his father told him literature "has no future."

Like Maha, Khalid is loveless; his only romantic prospect ran away with a rich engineer. The family eventually intervenes with plans to marry the cousins off to each other. This makes everyone equally unhappy.

Then the story ends. Read more ...

Harvard Islamic Studies Program Opened

Harvard
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., 10 May 2008 - Prince Alwaleed bin Talal*, chairman of Kingdom Foundation, had endowed $20 million in 2005 to establish an Islamic Studies program at Harvard University. He was at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Thursday to inaugurate the program.

The program was named "Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Islamic Studies Program." Roy P. Mottahedeh, professor of history in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, had been appointed director of the program.

Prince Alwaleed and the accompanying Kingdom Foundation delegation were briefed about the program. The program is building on Harvard's strong commitment to the study of the religious traditions of the world. It is also augmenting Harvard's existing strength by increasing the number of faculty focused on Islamic studies, providing additional support to graduate students, and making rare Islamic textual sources available in digital format. Harvard Islamic Society

Established in 1955, the Harvard Islamic Society (HIS) is a student organization whose mission is to "meet the social and religious needs of the Muslim community at Harvard University and to promote Islamic awareness on campus."

During his tenure as HIS president, Zayed Yasin (a 2002 Harvard graduate) held a charity dinner to raise funds for the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF). Also during his tenure, Yasin signed a divestment petition calling on Harvard to cut its financial ties to corporations that conducted business with Israel. Read more ...

Sharia Finance Protest at Harvard Law School: "The Killings must go on" says HSBC Sharia adviser Usmani

By Jerry Gordon

April 18: Yesterday, a press conference was held at Harvard Law School (HLS) to protest the Eighth Annual Harvard Islamic Finance Project (HIFP) program this weekend, April 19th and 20th in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The press conference was sponsored by Harvard Students for Israel. The 'Stop Sharia Now.org' associated with Frank Gaffney's Center for Security Policy issued a news release at the press conference and responded to questions. Hillel Stavis author of the recent FrontPageMagazine article "A Shilling for Sharia" was present. The irony was that Professor Noah Feldman, the subject of Stavis' article, was teaching a class in the same building as this press conference. Feldman has now become the 'go to guy' on Sharia law at HLS. Read more ...

Sharia at Harvard?

By Andrew G. Bostom

Harvard gym submits to Islam

Harvard
By Abbie Ruzicka

Harvard University has moved to make Muslim women more comfortable in the gym by instituting women-only access times six hours a week to accommodate religious customs that make it difficult for some students to work out in the presence of men.

Men have not been allowed to enter the Quadrangle Recreational Athletic Center during certain times since Jan. 28, after members of the Harvard Islamic Society and the Harvard Women's Center petitioned the university for a more comfortable environment for women.

Harvard Islamic Society's Islamic Knowledge Committee officer Ola Aljawhary, a junior, said the women-only hours are being tested on a trial basis. The special gym hours will be analyzed over Spring Break to determine if they will continue, she said.

Aljawhary said that she does not believe that the women-only gym hours discriminate against men. Read more ...
