LONDON RALLY CHEERS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND AGAINST RADICAL ISLAM

A rally was held in Central London on Saturday 21 November to show support for the people living under radical Islam in Iran, and to warn people in Britain of the dangers of Sharia law.

The rally, which lasted for three hours heard from many British speakers, including human rights activists and campaigners; representatives from different faiths; representatives from humanist and secular societies; philosophers,writers, poets and singers; andpoliticians.

FOUR speakers in particular were very inspiring:

MARYAM NAMAZIE, who organised the day's event and is spokesperson for One Law For All. She said:

"Sharia law is becoming a key battleground, particularly because it is an extension and representation of the rising threat of Islamism.

Sharia matters to people everywhere because it adversely affects the rights, lives and freedoms of countless human beings across the world. Opposing Sharia law is a crucial step in defending universal and equal rights and secularism and showing real solidarity with people living under and resisting it everywhere."

MURIEL SELTMAN an Activist, who said radicalism (in ANY FAITH!!) was very dangerous.

PETER TATCHELL, Human Rights Campaigner, who is the only man in the UK every to be prosecuted in recent memory under an ancient law, and yet one that still to this day remains on Britain's statute book!! He and others had interrupted the Archbishop of Canterbury during a sermon to protest at the Church of England's policy of homosexual relationships.

Peter was the only person prosecuted, probably because he was the only one with a high profile! This man works tirelessly for the human rights of everyone, and can often be found outside the Iranian Embassy in London, protesting against the inhumanity of the I.R.I. http://www.petertatchell.net/

Liberal Democrat British Member of Parliament EVAN HARRIS, said that freedom of expression does NOT give anyone the freedom to incite hatred against anyone else or to ABUSE peoples human rights. He was not against Islam or any religion, but he did not think Sharia law should be allowed to be used to abuse women and he would shout this from the rooftops!

What he was against was RADICAL Islam, just as he was against RADICAL Christianity and RADICAL forms of any other religion, both in the UK and around the World.

Yearly Soldarity with Iran against Mullah's Regime

Iran Solidarity is calling for people across the world to stand with the people of Iran on July 25 and every day. Since its establishment last week, over 1,000 individuals and organisations have joined Iran Solidarity, including Nazanin Afshin-Jam, Mina Ahadi,Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett and Taslima Nasrin. Its successful launch atthe House of Lords on July 13 was hosted by Dick Taverne and chaired by Fariborz Pooya, head of the Iranian Secular Society. Iran Solidarity is calling on people everywhere to step up their support forthe people of Iran by joining July 25 demonstrations at embassies of the Islamic regime of Iran in cities across the globe. The global day of action is being sponsored by human rights activists, Amnesty International USA,Reporters without Borders and others. We are also calling for every day to be a day of solidarity with the people of Iran and are looking to have one person every day in central London for half an hour for the next year. With your help, we plan to organise daily acts of solidarity in Trafalgar Square from 6:00-6:30pm for 365 consecutive days starting July 26. Islam on Trial: That’s What the Buffalo Beheading is All About

Maryam Namazie, the Muslim feminist founder of “One Law for All,” a group which opposes Shari’a law has just posted a report, images, and a video of her rally in London HERE.

I especially loved her placards: “End Racism and Cultural Relativism,” “Sharia Law Discriminates Against Women,” “Equal Rights for All,” and “No to Sexual Apartheid.” Judging by the images, the rally and the conference were attended by both men and women, and by Muslims, ex-Muslims, and non-Muslims. I loved the fact that Namazie described the rally as an “anti-racist rally against Sharia and religious-based laws in Britain and elsewhere.” An inspired touch.

Even more, I loved the fact that there was no violence, no threatened violence, and no signs demonizing either America or Israel; absolutely no scapegoats or diversions from the issue at hand.

Namazie’s rally and public meeting featured speakers from the Southall Black Sisters and Women Against Fundamentalism; the Central Council of Equal Rights Now–Organization against Women’s Discrimination in Iran; Democratic Muslims; British Muslims for Secular Democracy; One Law For All; and many other groups and speakers including Kenan Malik, Naser Khader, A.C. Grayling, Terry Sanderson, Sohaila Sharifi, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, etc.

I wonder what these folks might have to say about honor killings in general and about the Buffalo beheading in particular, a gruesome incident, which has seen so much newsprint as of late. (NOW New York State President, Marcia Pappas, has just again been attacked, this time by a coalition of domestic violence workers, for having called the Buffalo crime an “honor murder” and for having related it to Islam; that will be the subject of a future blog).

Imagine: Muslim-American organizations, feminists, and domestic violence activists are now all insisting that “domestic violence” is the same as “femicide,” that a beating is the same as a beheading, and that there is no advantage, only a disadvantage, in looking at the special needs of different victims-of-violence.
