Banda Aceh, 10 June (AKI) - A patrol car belonging to the Sharia police in the Indonesian province of Banda Aceh has been attacked that has raised concern about a backlash against Islamic law.
The car was firebombed by at least four people using Molotov cocktails outside the Sharia police headquarters in a small village in Banda Aceh on Monday. It was the first time police have been the target of such an attack.
"The attack is a sign of resistance by the population against Sharia laws, that are unfair in Aceh," said Fuad Mardhatillah, religion and philosophy professor at the Islamic State Institute Ar-Raniry in an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI) on Tuesday. Read more ...
