FP: Dave Gaubatz, welcome to Frontpage Interview.
Although you have only been on the road a few days during your Counter-terrorism Research Tour (CTRT), do you have any interesting intelligence to report?
Gaubatz: Thank you Jamie. It has been a fast paced few days, but I will focus this interview on North Carolina. Most readers know Senator Larry Shaw (D/NC) has assumed the role as the ‘Chairman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR). On 15 April 2009, Senator Shaw contacted me and advised he was aware of my 50 State CTRT. He advised he would keep me in his “prayers and would have his staff follow my research.”
Senator Shaw had written the following to me, “Under no circumstances should innocent children be abused, assaulted, neglected or mistreated; that was one of the major driving forces for my introduction of a bill in the North Carolina General Assembly in 2007 that would require the state of North Carolina to divest from companies operating in Sudan, Darfur.”
I have not released to anyone my schedule of the states/Islamic Centers I would visit as part of my research, and on 17 April 2009, I drove to Raleigh, NC. I visited the Islamic Center of Raleigh, next door to UN State University, and only a few blocks from Senator Shaw’s Legislative office. Readers can view some photographs of my visit at www.daveg.us.
