Iran has successfully launched a newer-model long range missile, according to its state-run outlet, Press TV. This model, the Sejjil-2 has a longer range than most of its missiles and is capable of hitting Israel. The BBC places its range at about 1200 miles. The Sejjil, meaning ‘Shooting Star’ in Farsi, is another element of brinksmanship with the West.
According to one Iranian source, the new missiles are capable of evading anti-ballistic missile defenses.
Whether this is true or bluster must be known to the American intelligence community. If true, however, it would be a significant threat to US bases in the Gulf and Israel.
