
"The three American hikers have been charged and their case is being studied at the Tehran Prosecutor General's Office," Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi is quoted as saying by Iran's state-run Press TV.
US citizens Shane Bauer, a freelance journalist, Sarah Shourd, a teacher and Josh Fattal, an environmentalist, were arrested July 31 this year while on a hike in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The three were traveling on Syrian and Iraqi visas and, according to Iranian officials, crossed the border illegally.
