The 1,350 tons of purified uranium would be enough for Iran to continue its nuclear program, which many believe is geared towards producing a nuclear weapon.
The report was drawn up by a member nation of the International Atomic Energy Agency and provided to the AP on condition that the country not be identified because of the confidential nature of the information.
In Washington, State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said, “the transfer of any uranium yellowcake … to Iran would constitute a clear violation of UNSC sanctions.”
We have yet to hear more about this, but if true, it would be a clear indication of several things.
One, Iran believes that it is low on uranium. Secondly, it is in clear violation of United Nations conditions on its nuclear program.
Today is the deadline for Iran to stop enriching uranium, as set forth by the US government. What will their response be?
