GLENN BECK ANNOUNCES "RALLY IN JERUSALEM" IN AUGUST

GLENN BECK ANNOUNCES "RALLY IN JERUSALEM" IN AUGUST

BY: FERN SIDMAN

On Monday, May 16th, FOX news personality and conservative talk show host Glenn Beck announced his intention of organizing a major rally in Jerusalem that is scheduled for August. During his morning radio program, he reminded his listeners of his previous rally, held in Washington, DC on August 28, 2010 called "Restoring Honor" which drew hundreds of thousands of people. Mr. Beck exhorted "all decent people and people of faith" to join him in Jerusalem in a rally called "Restoring Courage". Having recently returned from a trip to Israel, where he visited the Temple Mount, he said upon his departure, "The Temple Mount almost pulsated. I could feel it.”

As a vocal advocate and fervent supporter of Israel, Mr. Beck has made Israel and the Jewish people a focal point of his broadcasts. On Feb. 4, 2011, Mr. Beck offered his prognostications on the revolution in Egypt by telling his television audience that, "If President Hosni Mubarak does step down, however, the Muslim Brotherhood would be the most likely group to seize power. They've openly stated they want to declare war on Israel and they would end the peace agreement with Israel and they would work towards instituting something we told you about, a caliphate."

Often declaring his deeply held conviction that Israel and the Jewish people are being "set up", Mr. Beck has consistently addressed the exponential rise in anti-Semitism. "Old hatreds are coming over the horizon; it's a well-laid plan. Right now, when you're paying $4 a gallon for gasoline, it's tough. Pretty soon, you're going to want somebody to blame. And politicians always are there to give you someone to blame. And mark my words, we will be paying 10 dollars a gallon for gasoline. When that happens and someone comes to you and says, "It's the Jews. It's Israel. If they would just give up Jerusalem. If they would just divide Jerusalem." It is coming. This will be the mantra come September. "If they just divide Jerusalem, they just give it up! Go back to the '67 lines." It's coming", he ruefully observed.

Issuing an impassioned appeal to his listeners earlier today, Mr. Beck warned that Israel is in imminent danger, "Things in Israel are going to get bad. They are going to spread across the Middle East. The things that I've told you are coming, will come. It's only a matter of time." Making an oblique reference to the upcoming meeting between President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mr. Beck said, "There are people that will promise you "peace" in the coming months. They are going to attack the center of our faith; our common faith, and that is Jerusalem but it won't be with bullets or bombs. It will be with a two-state solution that cuts off Jerusalem; the Old City, to the rest of the world."

Alluding to the dramatic escalation in global anti-Western and anti-Israel animus, Mr. Beck said, "There are forces in this land, and forces all over the globe that are trying to destroy us, but remember, 'we are the great Satan and Israel is the little Satan'". Offering a historical retrospective, he said, "Many in the history of man have had the opportunity to stand with the Jewish people; Poland, Russia, Germany, and time and time and time again, they have failed."

As a devout Mormon, Mr. Beck spoke of his religious beliefs in the unfolding of geo-political realities. "The only seat of government that can and will solve this problem, with or without us is G-d. It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with peoples of all faiths, all around the world." Beseeching his listeners to join the rally in Jerusalem, Mr. Beck exclaimed, "As a citizen of America and a brother in the family of man, I come to you today and ask you to stand; stand with me in Jerusalem."

Candidly admitting that he didn't know how many people would show up, or how much the event would cost, he declared that the rally would be "a life altering event" and warned that the "very gates of hell" would fight his attempts to hold the rally.

More Anti-Semitism From an ISNA Outlet

ISNA
The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), arguably the nation's most politically influential Muslim organization, has a habit of contradicting itself. On one hand the group sponsors a campaign to stop hate speech and incitement to violence in the media; on the other hand it sanitizes an anti-Semitic book review in the latest issue of its publication, Islamic Horizons.

This is not the first time that ISNA's assertions about standing against bigotry and for dialogue have failed to trickle deeper into the group's actions and editorial oversight.

In its September/October 2009 issue, Islamic Horizons offers a summary of a book review from a previously unheard of writer named Ushruf Subreen. The summary whitewashes Subreen's original, full review of Martin Indyk's most recent book, Innocent Abroad. Read more ...

Islam: Never an anti-Semitic Faith?

Shmuley Boteach
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, the renowned U.S. writer and broadcaster, was on Anderson Cooper 360 last night (Wednesday, September 23), discussing his noble and admirable activism against Ahmadinejad’s and Gadhafi’s visit to the United States.

The Rabbi was involved in demonstrations outside the U.N. and had also helped block plans for Gadhafi to set up a tent on the grounds of a Libyan compound next door to his home in Englewood, N.J.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s pronouncements against Ahmadinejad on Cooper’s program were superb and to the point. He should be applauded and commended.

But the Rabbi made a curious comment while denouncing Ahmadinejad and calling for Muslims worldwide to shun him. He said: “Islam was never an anti-Semitic faith.”

Is this really so?

If Islam was never an anti-Semitic faith, I would like to ask the following:

Why was the Muslim Brotherhood’s founder, Hassan al-Banna, a devout admirer of Adolf Hitler? Why did the Nazis help create the organization? And why, by the end of World II, did the Muslim Brotherhood have a half million Arab Nazis as members?

Why did the grand mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, meet with Hitler on November 28, 1941 and request Nazi assistance in engendering a Middle Eastern Final Solution?

Why, for Sayyid Qutb, an Islamist Godfather, did the Jews represent the “eternal enemy” of Islam?

Why is Mein Kampf circulated so widely in the Muslim world? Why is it a bestseller among Palestinians? Read more ...

Indian Muslims and Israel

by Mohammed Salih Rawther

Anti-Semitism is not a burden of the Indian people

In August 2007, a group of elite Indian Muslims led by Hazrat Maulana Jameel Ahamed Ilyasi, the Chairman of All India Organisation of Imams and Mosques, visited Israel.

Though this news was reported, most of the media and political parties ignored the significance of this unprecedented visit. Maulana's visit and his comments afterwards should be given high importance and discussed globally, which can even stimulate the peace process in the Middle East.

It is shameful the leftist media, especially in India, conceals the truth that nearly one-third of the population of Israel are Muslims and misleads global Muslims by placing Israel in the position of "Islam's eternal enemy". Imam Ilyasi's first comment after getting back to India was: "Muslims in Israel live better than in India." He was admitting the truth that Israel never discriminated against Muslims, but that the Islamic movements only made the situation worse.

India is a country where such hypocrisy is prevalent, and accusations of "Israel partiality" may fall on anyone who merely smiles at a Jew in some airport. What is the logic behind agreeing that anything can be imported from that country - spy aircrafts, ammunition, breeding oxes, etc. - but they can't be spoken with?

The vested interests in the media utilise heartbreaking e-mails from Gaza for their own gain; yet, if any world leader comes forward with authentic talk of peace, he will be accused of partiality for Israel. What a contradiction.

The Indian Union Muslim League's ex-supremo, the late Janab Syed Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal, said, "Israel is the dagger stabbed into the heart of the Muslim world." His statement is another clear picture of how Israel is being demonized among Indian Muslims. There is nobody to speak on behalf of Israel, because India has no "Jewish voter bank".

During the Cold War, the Soviet Union was successful in appeasing the Middle Eastern peoples by promoting anti-Semitism, which already prevailed there. It was an easy thing for Indian Communists also, who ideologically depended on the Soviet Union, and so opposed America, to inject this hatred into Indian Muslims, who began to depend on Arabian countries for their livelihood.

Impartially, it is ludicrous how intolerant the Muslim countries surrounding Israel became at the formation of Israel in 1948. Their savagery haunted the people of that country: Egypt, by allowing a regiment of guerillas to attack them; Jordan's and Syria's joint venture for diverting the Jordan River; Gamal Abdel-Nasser's thirst for Jews' blood; the PLO's fervour for wiping out a race. Their united forces were all set for combat.

In 1967, the nation of Israel was a mere 20 years old. She had just begun life after two thousand years of exile. IDF's fighter planes were old and were nothing against Egypt's MIG-21 fighters from Russia.

Israel had few French-made small tanks and patchworked diesel engines fitted on Sherman tanks. Those also were nothing to face the Egyptian-Syrian-Jordanian tanks. Each and every section of Israel's defenses were near to nominal when compared with those of the enemies at that time. Almost all nations believed that Israel would be totally destroyed and its people slaughtered, as its enemies desired. The population which had just sacrificed six million human lives in Hitler's Holocaust might be wiped from the Earth within a quarter century.

Braving all these conditions, Israel repulsed four Goliaths within a mere six days.

The rivalry they still retain with the Jews is not the burden of the Indian people or any other, either Muslim or not. After Hitler's Holocaust and the Second World War the "right" to propagate anti-Semitism belongs to the Communists, who always claim they are "against all discriminations in the name of cast, creed, religion or anything else."

Similar to Hamas' justifications, the Communists did not hesitate to accuse Israel and the Mossad for the havoc of the collapse of the Soviet Union and its Eastern European Communist dominions, which were actually discarded by their own dominated peoples. This time, the Communist-Islamist axis has become the sponsor of anti-Semitism.

The majority of the media fails to try to understand Israel or even to write impartially. They are biased towards certain political parties that eye the Muslim voter bank. The lion's share of writers, cultural leaders, social workers, artists, etc. are under the yoke of "voter bank politics". The same attitude has spread among the public as well.

Jews are not outsiders or strangers to India. They had trade with India from the days of Solomon's regime and beyond - in 605, 586 BCE, and 68,369 and 490 CE, for example - and many Jewish families came to live in India. The rulers and people received them, gave them a place and support for their livelihood. They were banished in India only by foreigners who came here. Independent India never drove away the Jews.

When the Arab countries stood against India in its election to the United Nations Security Council, only Israel helped. How many critics remember when China and Pakistan attacked India, and Israel was the first to announce its support for our country? Israel was ready to cooperate and share its many gains in science with India, but the vested-interest politicians and pressure groups who control India did not allow diplomatic relations.

Aside from India's position as second, behind Indonesia, in the size of its Muslim population (and fourth in its Shi'a-Muslim population), the Muslims in India have had real democratic freedom for 60 years. More than that, they have enjoyed more than a thousand years' security in India.

They have mingled with so many different peoples and might have kept a broad mind in religious matters. Thus, Imam Ilyasi is a much respected person not only by the nation's Muslims. His dedicated attempts to promote communal harmony are widely appreciated by Hindus as well. Though he faced some hurdles on his decision to visit Israel, he stuck to it and completed his mission with the other members of the delegation, and expressed appreciation for Israel's hospitality.

Hazrat Imam Jameel Ahmed Ilyasi's Israel visit has become more relevant with time. Such mutual visits should be encouraged and treated with their deserved importance. Furthermore, such personalities as Ilyasi must be able to come to positions of prominence in their communities. These are the necessities for peace-loving peoples and the responsibility of the respective states.

Germany Will Walk Out of U.N. if Ahmadinejad Denies Holocaust

Germany's foreign ministry is sending a clear message to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ahead of his Wednesday speech to the United Nations — don't deny the Holocaust.

If the rogue Iranian leaders does in fact make such a statement before the General Assembly, German diplomats will walk out. And Germany wants other European Union countries to follow, the foreign ministry was quoted by Reuters.

"We will leave the hall if President Ahmadinejad denies the Holocaust or makes anti-Semitic statements ... we are making efforts towards a unified European position," a spokesman told Reuters on Tuesday.

As recently as last week, Ahmadinejad has called the Holocaust a lie, repeating the inflammatory statement as world powers weigh how to deal with Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Stating that the Holocaust did not occur during World War Two is a crime in Germany. Last week Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier condemned Ahmadinejad's most recent denial and called him a disgrace to his country, Reuters reported.

Farouk Hosni, UNESCO, and the Saudi Problem

by Dr. Irfan Al-Alawi

International Director, Center for Islamic Pluralism, UK

Farouk Hosni, Egypt’s cultural minister, is a controversial nominee to serve as Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the global institution concerned with preservation of humanity’s cultural heritage.
He has been criticised for his unbridled hatred of Jews - stated in a pledge that he would burn any books printed in Israel that he found in Egyptian government libraries. He assailed U.S. UNESCO ambassador David T. Killion, claiming that Killion’s criticism of Hosni’s candidacy was motivated by Killion being Jewish.
Killion is not Jewish, but even if he were, Hosni has no right to base his reply to Killion’s opposition to him on such a fact.

Notwithstanding Middle East political conflicts, Muslims are commanded to respect Jews as sharers in the revelation of One God. Conspiracy theory is common in the Muslim world, but does not befit a culture minister. Commentators in various countries have pointed out the abhorrent nature of Hosni’s outbursts,,,,

Anti-Semitism Thrives on Dutch Social Media

Israel
By Nissan Ratzlav-Katz

Virulent anti-Semitic content thrives on a Dutch social media website used by nearly half of the entire population of Holland, according to a report released Thursday. Yet, many of the online instigators appear to be Dutch-speaking Arabs.

The report, produced by investigators from Yad VaShem, the Dutch-language Israel Facts Monitorgroup and the Network on Anti-Semitism based in the Netherlands, was provided to all the political parties in the Netherlands, as well as to members of the Dutch government. As the Internet is becoming an increasingly important and influential facet of Dutch life, the investigators are hoping to provide some insight into how it is used in the Netherlands to propagate anti-Israel rhetoric and anti-Semitic views.

"Anti-Semitism and hatred toward Israel containing anti-Semitic content is a common phenomenon on the Internet in the Netherlands," the report declares. "Remarks which were unthinkable only ten years ago are now common practice and do not seem to raise eyebrows anymore." In fact, after three months of regular monitoring, the investigators concluded, "The climate in which the public debate about Israel and the Middle East conflict is taking place on the Internet is deteriorating."

Titled "Anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activity on the Internet in the Netherlands", the report presents examples and trends of anti-Israel blood libels, violent anti-Semitic hate speech and, simultaneously, Holocaust denial, smearing Israelis as Nazis, and calls for returning Jews to the death camps. For the purpose of gauging online Dutch social media, the investigators monitored closed and open groups on the Facebook-like Hyves social networking website, which can claim around nine million members, and the talkback section of de Volkskrant, one of the leading newspapers in Holland.

Open Praise for Suicide Bombings
Among the public groups on Hyves, there are 35 groups that the report defines as either "pro-Palestinian" or "anti-Israel". The majority of these groups, according to the investigators, "are run by young Arab immigrants or descendants of Arab immigrants living in the Netherlands." While the most popular anti-Israel or pro-Palestinian groups have several thousands of members, the largest pro-Israel Hyves forum has 900. Read more here ...

Test case looms for Europe’s stance on anti-Semitism as EU foreign ministers are pushed into statement on Swedish bigotry scandal

The recent eruption of anti-Semitic bigotry in Sweden, amid lurid allegations published in the country’s top selling newspaper about Israeli soldiers conspiring with American Jews in harvesting the organs of Palestinian children, has now been pushed to the top of the European agenda.

According to a report in Israel’s Haaretz newspaper today, Italian foreign minister Franco Frattini has brokered an agreement with his Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt that a statement will be issued condemning anti-Semitism at a European Union foreign ministers meeting later this week.

However, given the Swedish government’s dissembling on the affair what matters now is whether the statement is as clear and unambiguous as Frattini would like it to be or whether it will be watered down. Frattini told Haaretz that the allegations in Aftonbladet were: “terrible conclusions, lying and hurtful, and they have the power to assist all those who seek to incite against Jews or who oppose the existence of the State of Israel.” Sweden, by contrast, has adamantly refused to condemn the allegations.

The issue arises following allegations in the Aftonbladet newspaper that Israeli soldiers routinely kill Palestinian children to cut out their bodily organs and sell them on the international black market.

The reporter of the story himself admitted that he had “no clue” whether the allegations were true, as has the Palestinian source of the allegations, suggesting that the editorial team at Aftonbladet had simply ignored basic journalistic standards in order to smear the Jewish state in a manner reminiscent of medieval blood libels.

The affair has sparked a major diplomatic row between Sweden, the current holder of the EU’s rotating presidency, and Israel. The Israeli foreign mininstry said it would be watching how the EU handles the situation closely.

Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor was quoted by Haaretz as saying: “Every initiative against anti-Semitism is welcome… But if the declaration is general and does not specifically relate to the article in Aftonbladet, it will not resolve anything.”

The Nazification of Israel: Guardian op-ed by prominent European philosopher inverts Nazi terminology against Jewish state

Israel

Attempts in Europe to portray Israel as the modern incarnation of Nazi Germany were once the preserve of the extremists. Islamists, fascists and communists — each acting for reasons of their own — have employed the technique to portray the Jewish state as the epitome of political evil with which no compromise can be made and for whom total eradication is the only acceptable outcome.

It is a sign of the times, however, that the Nazification of Israel as a technique of denigration has begun to invade the mainstream.

In my forthcoming book — A State Beyond the Pale: Europe’s Problem with Israel — I provide an entire section on the Nazi analogy as well as some opinion poll evidence on just how widespread its usage has become. A commentary in today’s Guardian by the prominent Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek offers a perfect illustration of how the technique is now employed.

Zizek, who has near iconic status among Europe’s liberal-Left, begins his piece with some familiar distortions about the eviction earlier this month of two Palestinian families from their homes in the east Jerusalem district of Sheikh Jarrah.

Zizek presents what was in fact an eviction due to non-payment of rent as merely one instance of a broader policy of ethnic cleansing — a policy which is reminiscent, he infers, of the way the Nazis treated the Jews.

“The state of Israel is clearly engaged in a slow, invisible process, ignored by the media,” he says. “One day, the world will awake and discover that there is no more Palestinian West Bank, that the land is Palestinian-frei, and that we must accept the fact.” (My itallics)

There is plenty to be said about Israeli settlement policy and much that can be criticised. But what possessed Zizek to use, and the Guardian to allow, the term “Palestinian-frei”?

It is obviously an inversion of the Nazi term Judenfrei, literally meaning free of Jews. (Linguists suggest that it is not as strong as the term Judenrein (cleansed of Jews) but its purpose and etymology is clear.)

There is no repetition of the term. It is not dwelt upon. There is no great fanfare. It is just slipped casually into the narrative in a manner which suggests that its usage is considered by both author and newspaper as normal.

And that, of course, goes to the heart of the problem. The denigration of the Jewish state in modern Europe has now become part of such an edifice of hatred and bigotry that there are no longer any taboos. It is now possible to say anything, literally anything, about Israel, however grotesque and defamatory, and to feel no shame, to invite no censure.

No other state in the world is talked about in such a manner. And yes, it is anti-Semitism. And yes, it’s back.

Outrage: IDF Accused of "Harvesting Palestinian Organs"

aftonbladet
aftonbladet

A Swedish newspaper publishes disgraceful accusations.

Charging a mainstream media outlet with anti-Semitism is not something that we do lightly. Sometimes, however, an article appears that is so outrageous that we have to question the motivation or agenda behind the writer and the media that chooses to publish it.

Ha'aretz reports:

A leading Swedish newspaper reported this week that Israeli soldiers are abducting Palestinians in order to steal their organs, a claim that prompted furious condemnation and accusations of anti-Semitic blood libel from a rival publication.

"They plunder the organs of our sons," read the headline in Sweden's largest daily newspaper, the left-leaning Aftonbladet, which devoted a double spread in its cultural section to the article.

(Click here for the original article in Swedish)

The report quotes Palestinian claims that young men from the West Bank and Gaza Strip had been seized by the Israel Defense Forces, and their bodies returned to the families with missing organs.

"'Our sons are used as involuntary organ donors,' relatives of Khaled from Nablus said to me, as did the mother of Raed from Jenin as well as the uncles of Machmod and Nafes from Gaza, who all had disappeared for a few days and returned by night, dead and autopsied," writes author Donald Boström in his report.

Boström's article makes a link to the recent exposure of an alleged crime syndicate in New Jersey. The syndicate includes several American rabbis, and one Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, who faces charges of conspiring to broker the sale of a human kidney for a transplant. ...

But the liberal Sydsvenskan - southern Sweden's major daily - had harsh criticism for the rival paper, running an opinion piece under the headline "Antisemitbladet" (a play on the name Aftonbladet).

"We have heard the story before, in one form or the other. It follows the traditional pattern of conspiracy theory: a great number of loose threads that the theorist tempts the reader to tie into a neat knot without having been provided with any proven connection whatsoever," writes leading columnist Mats Skogkär of Sydsvenskan.

"Whispers in the dark. Anonymous sources. Rumors. That is all it takes. After all we all know what they [the Jews] are like, don't we: inhuman, hardened. Capable of anything," the opinion piece says. "Now all that remains is the defense, equally predictable: 'Anti-Semitism' No, no, just criticism of Israel."

Read full coverage of this story in Ha'aretz.

This latest blood libel joins an all too long list of false charges and accusations against Israel and the IDF and would not look out of place on a neo-Nazi website or the pages of the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

While this article may have been published in Swedish, previous experience shows that even such outlandish stories take on a life of their own as translations appear on the Internet preserved for Israel's enemies to dig up in the battle to delegitimize and demonize the Jewish state.

Even though credible rebuttals may appear, as was the case with the Jenin "massacre" and The Independent's "secret uranium bombs" (see HonestReporting's Big Lies interactive resource), these stories continue to fester online and, sadly, it is likely to be the case with Aftonbladet's disgraceful article.

The United Nation's Deadly Silence on Iran

Iran
By Dr. Arash Irandoost | August 15

Many of you have been busy circulating numerous petitions to the United Nations regarding the brutality of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Please do not waste your precious time any longer, hoping for a miracle to happen from this incompetent, corrupt, anti-Semitic and pro-Islamic organization. Since June 12, 2009, despite numerous petitions signed by Iranians and submitted to the UN, there has not been any strong condemnation from this pro-Islamist organization regarding the criminal conduct of this medieval regime against its own citizens.

Don’t just take my word for it, please do your own research on this organization and how it functions. The UN is an organization rife with incompetence, corruption, and mismanagement.

The Iranian people are simply hopeless and helpless and the United Nations does not come to their rescue. Mass public hanging, as well as secret executions in prisons, are routine in the tyrannical Islamic Republic of Iran. From its past performance, rather its absence of performance, we know that the UN watchdog is a true disgrace to dogs, since all it does is eat, sleep and look the other way. Furthermore, the dog has no teeth. The vet had to pull all its teeth before the dog became acceptable to the crafty cats that constitute the UN itself.

The founding purpose of the UN was to “bring peace and prosperity to the people of the world".

The UN in the age of terror and blatant human rights violations by many countries such as Burma, China and Iran, has failed miserably to meet its obligation and its purpose.

The UN programs which was set up to help the Palestinians over the past half-century, have not only failed to produce decent lives, but have helped create a culture of hate and violence–fueled in large part by the UN's own anti-Israel agenda.

It is not uncommon to hear anti-Israeli rhetoric in the hallways of the United Nations.

You have heard frequent complaining and condemnation from the UN that the self-admitted terrorist prisoners at Guantanamo are being denied their human rights, or defenseless Palestinians are killed by Israeli soldiers, yet the UN has no time to speak out against documented human rights violating thugs in Iran.

The UN has ignored the alarming surge in assassinations, rapes, killings, torture and the massive crackdown that the Islamic Republic has launched against pro-democracy activists. Read more here ...

Paradigm shift in the offing as Britain moves step closer to recognising Hamas

Hamas

As the anti-Israeli atmosphere in Britain intensifies by the day, Britain’s Foreign Affairs Select Committee has now called on the British government to end its policy of not talking to the extreme anti-Semitic terror group Hamas while simultaneously urging the European Union to make its relationship with Israel conditional on good behaviour, the BBC is reporting today. The report was also carried in French and English by France’s top news agency, Agence France Presse.

The cross party group headed by Labour MP Michael Gapes — a self-declared friend of Israel — said that the policy of non-engagement with Hamas was ineffective. While criticising Hamas rocket attacks, it condemned Israel’s Operation Cast Lead in Gaza as “disproportionate”, criticised the blockade of Gaza, condemned settlement growth and urged the British Foreign Office to declare openly whether it believed Israel had committed war crimes in Gaza.

The committee had recommended reaching out to “moderates” in Hamas in 2007 but said such calls now had new impetus since Britain had begun engaging with the political wing of Hezbollah earlier this year.

Moves in this direction have been widely predicted and it may only be a matter of time before recognition of Hamas by the British government becomes a reality. The ground was laid in May when British Foreign Secretary David Miliband gave a speech in Oxford in which he sought to downplay the distinction between “moderates” and “extremists”. At the time, the Foreign Office denied that this was directed at Hamas.

But, in the context of last week’s announcement of a partial arms embargo by Britain against Israel and this latest parliamentary report, it seems clear that a paradigm shift is taking place in Britain’s attitudes to the Middle East.

Though famously unenthusiastic about European integration, Britain is perhaps the heaviest hitter in the EU in terms of foreign policy. Moves in Britain to recognise Hamas would undoubtedly strengthen the hand of constituencies across Europe which advocate a harder line on Israel and a softer line on groups such as Hamas.

For a broader explanation of why things have taken such a turn in Great Britain see my op-ed in the Jerusalem Post last week which is reproduced in an entry below.

Realpolitik: Savage on ban list to 'balance' Muslim extremists
'I think we could be accused of duplicity in naming him'

Savage
July 25 | 6:35 pm Eastern

Official correspondence, released under the United Kingdom's Freedom of Information law, reveals that U.S. radio talk-show host Michael Savage's name was placed on a list of people banned from Britain in order to provide "balance" to a "least wanted" list dominated by Muslim extremists, and the decision was made "at the highest level of government," the London Daily Mail reported today.

"We will want to ensure that the names disclosed reflect the broad range of cases and are not all Islamic extremists," reads a draft recommendation, marked "Restricted," that was obtained as part of Savage's libel lawsuit against the government and former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith

Refering to Savage by his birth name, one of the newly released e-mail messages, dated Nov. 27, 2008, from an unnamed Home Office official, says, "with Weiner, I can understand that disclosure of the decision would help provide a balance of types of exclusion cases."

Savage had earlier accused Smith of having plucked his name out of a hat because he was "controversial and white." These latest revelations add weight to Savage's charge.

Savage told WND today the Home Office chose him to balance the list of Muslim extremists because he is Jewish.

"The name Dreyfus comes to mind. They have attempted to destroy my reputation to avoid offending those Muslims who want to destroy them! The Warsaw ghetto comes to mind, where some Jews threw other Jews into gestapo hands to live another day," he said.

Make no mistake about this – they 'chose' me because I am the only talker in the top five who is Jewish! The old anti-Semitic strain has resurfaced in England, not among the right wing, but on the socialist left. This should galvanize every member of the U.S. media, but will it?"

Another e-mail, released under FOI, points to complicity by other agencies and even Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Read more here...

France Surrenders to Ahmadinejad

France
Friday, 17 July 2009

When one mentions the country France, what instantly pop into the mind are its fabulous wine and cheese and a taste for romance. But that’s not all she is known for. France is also known for capitulating to the enemy in times of crises. France has never been a reliable partner, the sort of Western country you can count on in time of need. Even though France has been part of NATO, she has deviated from the pact on numerous occasions. France habitually has been unpredictable, unreliable and at times, very unethical.

In WWI 1914-1918, the German army pounded the French - without the rescue mission of Uncle Sam, French people would be speaking German now. The sore-winner imposed a very harsh “Treaty of Versailles” to 'punish' the Germans, only resulting in the rise of an unknown Austrian “thug” by the name of Hitler.

In WWII, Germany bullied France into letting them take more territory – France did not even fight - they adopted a policy of 'appeasement'. In 1940, France surrenders before Germany. It took the allied forces again to liberate France from the occupation of the Nazis in what is known as “D-Day.”

Former president of France, Jacques Chirac, was a close friend of Saddam Hussein for thirty years or so. Chirac allowed the sale of nuclear facilities to Iraq that were destroyed just in time by Israel before Saddam could use it against the Iranians or the Israelis. He sold Iraq the planes that been used to gas thousands of Kurds as well as Iranian soldiers.

France’s sense of anti-Semitism is not a secret
. Even during Sarkozi’s government, French Jews have no sense of physical safety. Jews still get mugged, simply for being Jews. Almost nobody pays attention to it. The Jews are not the only victims of France's identification with radical Islam. In many French cities with a growing radical Islamist population, no teenage girl can go out in the evening, at least not without an Islamic hejab. If she does, it translates to: "she is for everybody."

There are about six to seven million Muslims living in France, at least ten per cent of them are radical Islamists poised on the edge of violence. And these radical Muslims have allies on both ends of the Left and the Right. France should not be considered a Western country any longer; it is now the leader of the Arab-Muslim world. France is an Islamist country and whether one agrees or not, her actions speak louder than any words. Read more here ...

Calling Jews 'Nazis' may be criminalised

Israel
Leon Symons | July 16

Parliament will be asked to consider whether the use of Nazi symbols and terms in reference to Jews, Israel and Zionism is breaking the law on incitement to racial hatred.

A new report by the European Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (EISCA) has highlighted the increasing use of what it terms the “Nazi card” in antisemitic discourse and has called for a number of measures to try to combat its spread.

“Playing the Nazi card” has been defined in the report as the use of Nazi-related terms or symbols — for example intertwining the swastika with the Star of David — while negatively referring to Jews, Israel, Zionism or other aspects of what it calls the Jewish experience.

The report, which was jointly published by EISCA and the Department for Communities and Local Government, recommends that the Home Office, the Association of Chief Police officers (ACPO) and the Crown Prosecution Service should prepare new guidance for the police on whether this kind of terminology amounts to incitement.

The report says that universities and adult education colleges should be surveyed to establish how they deal with antisemitic discourse.

It also suggests that the University and College Union and the National Union of Journalists use the EU Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia’s definition of antisemitism to improve their harassment policies.

Cohesion Minister Shahid Malik, who launched the report on Tuesday alongside EISCA chairman Denis MacShane MP, said: “It is vital to reiterate the significance which my government places on tackling this scourge which has blighted our world for centuries.

“Where antisemitic discourse flourishes unchecked, an atmosphere develops where Jews and other minorities — for it is certain that other minorities will also be targeted — feel isolated and vulnerable.
“Antisemitic discourse is not targeted at an identifiable victim but at Jews as a group.

“The tone in which issues affecting Jewish people are raised or addressed by politicians, the media, educators or the business world, affects the way in which Jewish people are perceived by the wider public.”

After the launch, Mr Malik said that the report’s proposals would be overseen by the cross-government working group set up as a result of the 2006 All-Party Parliamentary inquiry into antisemitism.

Also on Tuesday, the Community Security Trust published its second report on antisemitic discourse.

Author Mark Gardner, the CST’s communications director, said that while antisemitic discourse openly targeting Jews was “extremely rare” in mainstream British politics and media, “nevertheless, antisemitism is an important matter that must be better understood and challenged before it worsens any further”.

Contemporary antisemitic discourse, he argued, “is most often revealed in language and imagery that evokes the central antisemitic allegation of a powerful and hidden Jewish conspiracy against all non-Jews”.

As the British National Party’s first two MEPs took their seats in the European Parliament this week, the Centre for Social Cohesion published a report into the party’s online network, claiming that BNP members and self-professed BNP supporters continue to host, and link to online, material that is pro-Nazi, racist, antisemitic and homophobic.

ISNA's U.S. Government-Approved Racist Hatefest

ISNA
By Pamela Geller

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) put on a hatefest during its annual convention in Washington over the Fourth of July weekend. The popular American Muslim speaker Hamza Yusuf of California’s Zaytuna Institute illustrated this when he declared July 4th a Muslim Day -- because on that day, Muslims defeated the crusaders.

One featured speaker was the Imam Warith Deen Umar, the former head of New York prisons’ Muslim chaplain program. He spoke about his books, Jews for Salaam: The Straight Path to Global Peace, and Judaiology. Umar repeatedly described Jewish conspiracies to control the world, saying:

“You need to know that Obama, the first man that Obama picked when we were so happy that he was the President, he picked an Israeli -- Rahm Emanuel -- his number one man. His number two man -- [David] Axelrod -- another Israeli person. Why do this small number of people have control of the world…There’s some people in the world says no Holocaust even happened. Some of their leaders say no Holocaust even happened. Well it did happen. These people were punished. They were punished for a reason because they were serially disobedient to Allah.” Read more ...

French Court announces retrial in Halimi case

Ilan Halimi

Fourteen members of the self-proclaimed "Barbarians" gang will be retried in Paris for their role in the killing of Ilan Halimi, a French-Jewish cell phone salesman who was kidnapped, tortured and found dying near a railroad track south of Paris in February 2006.

All 27 members of the gang were sentenced in the case on Friday, but in a swift turn-around, the office of the prosecutor, Jean-Claude Marin, agreed to ask the Court of Appeals to seek longer sentences than those originally handed out, after Justice Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie called some of the sentences too lenient.

The gang's leader, a 28 year-old French national born to immigrants from the Ivory Coast named Youssouf Fofana, however, will not be among those facing a retrial. Fofana, who was the only defendant convicted of murder, was sentenced to a maximum sentence of life in prison on Friday, without the possibility of parole for 22 years.

Two of Fofana's accomplices also received heavy sentences of 15 and 18 years behind bars, but many of the defendants were given lighter terms and two were acquitted altogether.

Others received six-month suspended sentences, and the young woman who was used as bait to lure Halimi to his captors received a sentence of 9 years in prison, despite the prosecutor's request for 10 to 12 years.

Alliot-Marie and the prosecutor's calls for a retrial were in part a response to criticism from the Halimi family's lawyer and a number of French Jewish associations, which had criticized some of the sentences as too light, given the sheer brutality and anti-Semitic nature of the crime.

Fofana had been quoted in 2006 as saying he wanted to kidnap a Jew because "they had money", and when the trial began at the end of April, Fofana yelled "Alla hu akbar!" upon entering the courtroom, before giving his name during formal questioning as "Arabs African, Salafist revolt, barbarian army".

The trial itself also brought tensions between French Jews and Muslims to the hilt, and saw the outbreak of street brawls and other sporadic acts of violence between the two groups during the two-months of proceedings.

While many within the Parisian Jewish community were encouraged by the announcement of a retrial - hundreds of demonstrators marched through Paris on Monday night, carrying portraits of Halimi and shouting, "Justice for Ilan!" Some French jurists protested the move, accusing Alliot-Marie of bowing to political pressure.

Halimi was 23 years old when he disappeared in 2006, after going on a date with a girl he had met at his workplace.

The girl, who was 17 at the time, led Halimi to an empty apartment where he was attacked by Fofana and his accomplices.

Throughout 24 days of brutal torture, Halimi was kept bound to a chair in the basement while the gang tried to extort a ransom of 450,000 euros from his family.

When it became apparent that the family could not pay, Fofana doused Halimi in alcohol, stabbed him, set him on fire and dumped his naked body by a railway track.

Halimi died on his way to hospital.

Gang boss jailed for torturing French Jew to death

 Ilan Halimi
By Thierry Leveque in Paris | July 11

THE leader of a group that called itself a "gang of barbarians" was sentenced to life imprisonment by a French court for kidnapping and torturing a young Jewish man for more than three weeks before leaving him to die.

The gang abducted 23-year-old Ilan Halimi in 2006, unsuccessfully tried to extort a ransom for their captive, tortured him until he was close to death and then left him near a train station. He died shortly after he was found.

The case shocked France and turned a spotlight on anti-Semitic violence in the poor, multi-ethnic suburbs around many big French cities.

Amid tight courtroom security, Youssouf Fofana, the gang's leader, who admitted killing Mr Halimi, was sentenced to life imprisonment, the maximum penalty under French law, with a minimum period in jail of 22 years.

Twenty-four other gang members were handed sentences ranging from six months suspended to 18 years in prison. Two were acquitted.

"I am pleased that the Paris court of assizes has recognised the anti-Semitic character of this crime," Francis Szpiner, a lawyer for Halimi's family said outside the courtroom.

"It was because he was Jewish that Ilan Halimi was killed and tortured. No one can challenge this judicial truth."

However he added that he was disappointed at what he said were lenient sentences handed to some of Fofana's accomplices and asked the Justice Ministry to seek an appeal.

Aside from the horrific details of the murder itself, the case attracted wide attention because of what it seemed to suggest about racial tensions and anti-Semitism in France. Many in the Jewish community say that anti-Semitic aggression among French youths of Arab and African origin has been on the rise in recent years, exacerbated by anger over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

According to several members of the gang, Mr Halimi was targeted because he was Jewish and was therefore believed to have money.

The trial, which lasted for more than two months, was held largely behind closed doors after clashes at the start of the hearing between radical Jewish militants and witnesses and relatives of some of the accused.

Fofana, a 28 year-old of Ivoirian origin, expressed no remorse and expressed defiance throughout the trial. On various occasions, he smirked at Hamili's relatives, shouted "Allahu Akbar!" ("God is greatest!) and at one point threw shoes at lawyers.

He gave his date of birth as February 13, 2006, in Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois, the date and place of Mr Halimi's death and bombarded the magistrates investigating the case with letters full of anti-Semitic insults.

Among the 26 other defendants were young men accused of taking part in the abduction and guarding of the captive, and a girl who is alleged to have lured Mr Halimi into the Paris suburb of Sceaux where he was kidnapped.

Petition: Remove Keith Ellison from Anti-Semitism Task Force

Ellison
To: U.S. Representatives Ron Klein (D-Florida) and Mike Pence (R-Indiana), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Task Force on Anti-Semitism (CTFAS)

We call on you to remove U.S. Representative Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota) from CTFAS for conduct which is contradictory to the principles of the task force.

* In November 2006, Congressman Ellison spoke at the Fourth Annual Body Meeting of the radical North American Imams Federation (NAIF). In the event program, Ellison’s picture was placed next to that of “unindicted co-conspirator” of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Siraj Wahhaj, and Al-Qaeda web designer and Hamas suicide bombing supporter, Mazen Mokhtar.

* In May 2007, Congressman Ellison was the keynote speaker at the 4th Annual Convention of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota (MAS-Minnesota). This, while MAS-Minnesota was propagating violence against Jews on its website with such statements as “If you gain a victory over the men of Jews, kill them.” And “May Allah destroy the Jews, because they used the graves of their prophets as places of worship.”

* In September 2007 and November 2007, Congressman Ellison gave speeches in front of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). This, while both groups were named by the U.S. Justice Department as co-conspirators for a federal trial dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas by the leaders of the Muslim “charity,” the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF).

In February 2008, Americans Against Hate (AAH) took a delegation to meet with Congressman Ron Klein, for over half an hour, to show him proof of the above information and to ask him to remove Ellison from CTFAS. Klein said he was concerned about the information and said that he would confront Ellison with the material. He said that it would take him a week to decide whether or not to continue to allow Ellison membership in CTFAS.

One week later, Congressman Klein’s office said that he would not remove Ellison, stating that Ellison told him that he had “publicly denounced” and would continue to publicly denounce the anti-Semitism from the groups in question.

To this day, Ellison has yet to denounce anything concerning these groups, anti-Semitic or otherwise. Instead, he continues to be involved with them, giving the keynote speech once again at MAS-Minnesota’s annual convention and even allowing MAS-Minnesota to finance his trip (“pilgrimage”) to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. As well, he gave the keynote speech at CAIR-Chicago’s Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium (MYLS), where he allowed himself to be photographed shoulder to shoulder with Hamas operative and HLF trial co-conspirator, Jamal Said.

Congressman Mike Pence’s office has deferred its position on the matter to Congressman Klein’s office.

We understand that elected officials deserve a certain level of respect, especially from their colleagues. However, Congressman Ellison’s continued involvement with groups tied to terrorism and hate ideologies goes way beyond the pale of acceptable behavior. If CTFAS’s goal is to speak out against anti-Semitism, then it cannot in good conscience have as a member an individual who is associated with organizations that harbor such bigotry. We therefore call on you to take the necessary action to remove Keith Ellison from CTFAS.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
