 by Mark Impomeni Last Friday, nineteen members of the New York Congressional delegation put their names to a letter to President Obama in advance of the upcoming trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and his co-conspirators in lower Manhattan. In the letter, the nineteen representatives, all Democrats, request inclusion of a special line item in the president’s 2011 budget request to “fully reimburse the City of New York for all security and other expenses related to providing a safe and secure trial.”The letter expresses the members’ support for hosting the trial in New York City, but takes note of the burden that will be placed on the New York City Police Department, the community surrounding the federal courthouse, and the budgets of the City and State of New York. “The trial of KSM will require an unprecedented amount of security, both to protect the judicial proceedings at the Courthouse and the surrounding area,” the representatives write. “Without full federal reimbursement, the costs of providing security for this trial will significantly compromise the NYPD’s efforts to prevent crime and terrorism, and further burden the budgets of New York City and New York State, both of which are already reeling from the severe economic downturn.” Rep. Michael McMahon is leading the reimbursement effort on the House side. McMahon also joined Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) earlier this month in calling on the president to provide funds for New York City in connection with the trial. McMahon was elected last year to represent Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, an area that had been continuously represented by a Republican since 1981. McMahon supported Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to hold the trial in New York City, telling Politico in November, “It’s time to move forward and bring these animals to justice.” That tough talk has given way to concerns about security, “emotional trauma,” and costs as the trial grows closer. All are factors that Democrats largely brushed off when the Obama administration’s decision was announced two months ago. One reason for the change of heart among New York Democrats could be a groundswell of opposition both locally and nationally to holding the trial blocks from the site where nearly 3,000 Americans died in the attacks. On the national level, HUMAN EVENTS and the influential conservative community website RedState.com have joined forces to sponsor a petition drive calling for the trial to be moved out of the civilian court system. The petition has garnered over 80,000 signatures to date. Prominent New York Republicans Rep. Peter King, gubernatorial candidate and former Rep. Rick Lazio, former governor George Pataki, and the former representative of McMahon’s district, Vito Fossella. Lazio told HUMAN EVENTS the decision to hold the trial in New York was “unacceptable and irresponsible,” and said that McMahon’s letter was misguided. “It’s fine to seek reimbursement, but that doesn’t get to the real issue,” he said. “The fact that the cost of security is projected to be over $200 million of additional spending speaks to the seriousness of the risk to downtown New York City. Republican or Democrat, people understand that it is an outrage to have the trial for this terrorist mastermind held in downtown New York, a place that has already suffered great trauma as a result of [Khalid Sheikh Mohammad’s] actions”Lazio was also critical of his potential opponents in the governor’s race, Governor David Paterson, and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, for not doing more to block the trial. He said that Paterson’s public opposition to the trial was “ineffective,” saying that the governor needs to be, “a relentless opponent of having these trials down town.” “Governor Paterson should have been much more outspoken from the start, not just in terms of money, but in terms of the jeopardy created unnecessarily for the people of downtown New York City,” Lazio said. But Lazio saved his most stinging criticism for Cuomo, who has not taken a public position on the trial. “I find it puzzling that the chief law enforcement officer in the state has been absolutely mum on this,” he said. “How [does Cuomo] expect to be chosen to a position of leadership without taking a stand on issues important to New Yorkers?" One local effort is taking place in lower Manhattan’s Community Board 1, which is represented by Rep. Jerrold Nadler, one of the Democrats that signed McMahon’s letter. Marc Ameruso, Assistant Secretary of Community Board 1, led a vocal group of residents at last month’s meeting in specifically asking the board to withhold its support for holding the trials in the area. The resolution was ultimately tabled, but not before about a dozen residents of the overwhelmingly Democratic area spoke passionately about their fear and anger at the Obama administration’s decision to bring Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and his 9/11 co-conspirators back into their community. Mr. Ameruso had strong words for Nadler, saying his signing of McMahon’s letter was politically motivated. “It’s ironic that Mr. Nadler acknowledges that this neighborhood will have to be locked down, that we will have to relive the experience of September 11th, but yet he is willing to put his constituency through this nightmare,” Ameruso said. “He’s throwing his constituents, of which I am one, under the bus.” Ameruso vows to reintroduce his resolution at this month’s board meeting. He said that he hopes his resolution along with the attempted bombing of Northwest Airlines flight 253 on Christmas Day will, “wake people up.” “Holding this trial in lower Manhattan puts all of us in danger,” he said.

Dear General Holder:
We, the editors of HUMAN EVENTS, RedState.com, and the many Americans who have attached our names to this petition hereby request that you try al-Qaeda's confessed 9/11 terrorist mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his four al-Qaeda cohorts in a military tribunal, reversing your precedent-changing decision to try them in a civilian court in New York City.
There is no reason, much less a requirement, under U.S. Constitutional or statutory law to grant KSM and the others the right to a trial in civilian courts, nor to offer them any of the corresponding Constitutional rights afforded U.S. citizens.
Logic, reason, and justice demand that the terrorists who planned the 9/11 attacks be treated as enemy combatants in a war against the United States, not as common civilian criminals.
Our reasons for urging you to reverse your decision include:
1. Trying these terrorists in a civilian court would be a break with 200+ years of American jurisprudence. From British spies during the War of Independence to Nazi saboteurs caught on U.S. soil during World War II, we have tried those who make war against America in military, not civilian, courts. This change in policy sets a potentially catastrophic precedent. This would not happen with a military tribunal;
2. The very real possibility exists that if tried in a civilian court, KSM and the others could be acquitted on a technicality, such as their not having been informed of their Miranda rights, or having been denied a speedy trial. This would not happen with a military tribunal;
3. KSM and the others should not be allowed to hijack our courts, using them as a media circus to promulgate their hate-filled, extremist views. This would not happen with a military tribunal;
4. A civilian trial would send the dangerous message to our enemies that the United States has reverted to its ineffective, pre-9/11 crime-fighting approach to terrorism. This would not happen with a military tribunal;
5. In a civilian trial, valuable intelligence about interrogation techniques and other classified information will be revealed to America's enemies, giving them a huge advantage in successfully carrying out terrorist plots in the future. This would not happen with a military tribunal;
6. Americans are willing to pay to ensure justice is served. However, the estimated security cost of $200 million for the KSM trial is completely avoidable and a total waste of taxpayer money. This would not happen with a military tribunal; and
7. While Americans are willing and able to stand up to protect themselves and their property, trying KSM and the others in New York invites a terrorist attack, creating a huge, unnecessary risk to our court workers, jurors, and everyone in the New York City area. This would not happen with a military tribunal;
Our final words are from David Beamer, father of Todd Beamer, one of the heroes of United Flight 93: "Our enemies must be thrilled" he wrote of your decision to give KSM and the others a civilian trial in Manhattan. "We are willingly handing them an opportunity to inflict economic harm on New York City, keep their cause in the headlines, gather new intelligence, create new terror strategies, stimulate recruiting, celebrate new found rights, and foist a fresh round of pain and suffering upon their victims."
Mr. Holder, as Attorney General of the United States, it was within your power to move the trial of KSM from a military tribunal to a civilian court. It is equally within your power to reverse that dangerous decision. We request that you do so forthwith.

 RESIDENTS are fighting a mosque and cultural centre they believe will become a headquarters for the strict Wahhabi sect of Islam in Sydney. Auburn Council, in Sydney's west, has outraged residents by approving the three-storey mosque with dome and minarets on a site occupied by a Depression-era Art Deco fire station. The Australian Islamic Cultural Centre, which has links to Saudi Arabia and Wahhabism, plans to demolish existing buildings - including the fire station - and construct a mosque for up to 1000 worshippers, a library and a youth cultural centre with two levels of basement. A petition demanding the council reverse its decision and preserve the heritage fire station in Harrow Rd is circulating in the suburb. Activities planned for the complex include cultural and religious lectures, weddings, prayers, cultural, religious and language classes, fundraising, public speaking, Ramadan festivities and counselling, welfare and rehabilitation services. "There is a chamber for 1000 worshippers at a time, a dome and minarets with the sign of the crescent moon," he said. "It's an opportunity for the Australian Islamic Cultural Centre to house its operations. The $9 million for it will come from overseas." Mr Walsh said residents aimed to collect 8000 to 9000 signatures on a petition demanding Auburn Council preserve the fire station or its facade. Islamic Cultural Centre spokesman Shafiq Khan runs nearby Al-Faisal College at Auburn and is known to have connections in the Saudi Government, which has spent an estimated $120 million bankrolling mosques, schools, clerical salaries and Islamic scholarships in Australia. He was not available to comment. Councillors have voted 7-3 to approve the mosque with conditions, but will consider a rescission motion at a meeting in January. Labor councillor Patrick Curtin said concerns surrounded a lack of information about the proposal relating to noise, drainage, overshadowing, hours of operation, height, traffic and parking. Mr Curtin refused to comment on the applicant but said he had not been impressed by its presentation. "The recommendation (to approve the development) is based on insufficient information," he said. A former Arab news anchor–turned–national security advocate has created a petition demanding that the subjects of the new book "Muslim Mafia" be investigated. "We call on the U.S. government to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in the interest of national security," says the new petition by Brigitte Gabriel, who now runs the ACT! for America organization. Gabriel covered news throughout Israel, Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, and her work brought her into contact with British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President George H.W. Bush and Israeli leaders Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Ariel Sharon. She moved to the United States in 1989 and founded a television production company as well as ACT! for America, which is dedicated to educating millions about the threat of radical Islam to world peace and national security. Now her petition, which already has attracted thousands of signatures, demands:
- The U.S. Department of Justice share with each member of the U.S. Congress an executive summary of the findings that led them to name CAIR as a co-conspirator in a terrorism case.
- The House Sergeant at Arms work with all members of Congress and their top staff, particularly those members who sit on the House Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Intelligence Committees, to perform background checks on staff under their employ, considering evidence that CAIR has strategically worked to place staffers there.
- The U.S. Internal Revenue Service perform a full and thorough investigation into the business activities of CAIR, specifically their lobbying activities, to judge if they are in violation of their federal non-profit status as a 501(c)(3) organization.
Her points are similar to the demands of four members of Congress who were alarmed at the revelations in "Muslim Mafia," by Paul Sperry and David Gaubatz, which was based on an extended undercover operation at the organization that lobbies for Muslim interests but is considered by many in law enforcement to be a front group for terrorists. Reps. Sue Myrick, R-N.C.; Trent Franks, R-Ariz.; John Shadegg, R-Ariz.; and Paul Broun, R-Ga., have called for an internal House investigation as well as for a review from the Department of Justice about CAIR's activities.  After the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989,the country was in a state of economic ruin and civil war. Betweeh 1994-1996, the Taliban, a militia of hardline Sunni Muslims, gained military and political strength, and governed Afghanistan from 1996-2001. After their defeat by U.S. and NATO troops, they retreated to the tribal regions of Pakistan where they continue to gain strength and carry out attacks, against their own people and foreign troops. Their interpretation of Islamic law is extremely strict, with many of their edicts directed at women, who are not permitted to work (with the exception of medicine, since a man is not permitted to examine a woman), leave the home without a male relative, and are required to blacken their windows so they cannot be visible from the outside. The Taliban have become notorious for brutal public beatings, hangings, and executions, notably the slaughter of approximately 8000 non-combatants in Mazar-e-Sharif and Bamiyan (1).
As early as October, 2008 , U.S. defense secretary Robert Gates "endorsed the recommendation by Brig. Mark Carleton-Smith that a resolution to the conflict would require negotiations with the Taliban."(2)
Recently, the Pakistani government agreed to turn control of the Swat Valley, a tribal area near the border of Afghanistan, over to the Taliban. Obama reiterated his stance that we must reach out' to 'moderate Taliban' with the ultimate goal of U.S. troop withdrawal. He plans on doing this from a position of strength, hence the troop surge. However, Taliban officials have balked at the idea, saying "We don't even know what a moderate is...it goes against the very core of our ideology"...
Given this kind of track-record, Why would our government consider negotiating with anyone from the Taliban, whether or not they are a self-proclaimed 'moderate', if indeed, one can be found in the first place?

We call on you to remove U.S. Representative Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota) from CTFAS for conduct which is contradictory to the principles of the task force.
* In November 2006, Congressman Ellison spoke at the Fourth Annual Body Meeting of the radical North American Imams Federation (NAIF). In the event program, Ellison’s picture was placed next to that of “unindicted co-conspirator” of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Siraj Wahhaj, and Al-Qaeda web designer and Hamas suicide bombing supporter, Mazen Mokhtar.
* In May 2007, Congressman Ellison was the keynote speaker at the 4th Annual Convention of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota (MAS-Minnesota). This, while MAS-Minnesota was propagating violence against Jews on its website with such statements as “If you gain a victory over the men of Jews, kill them.” And “May Allah destroy the Jews, because they used the graves of their prophets as places of worship.”
* In September 2007 and November 2007, Congressman Ellison gave speeches in front of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). This, while both groups were named by the U.S. Justice Department as co-conspirators for a federal trial dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas by the leaders of the Muslim “charity,” the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF).
In February 2008, Americans Against Hate (AAH) took a delegation to meet with Congressman Ron Klein, for over half an hour, to show him proof of the above information and to ask him to remove Ellison from CTFAS. Klein said he was concerned about the information and said that he would confront Ellison with the material. He said that it would take him a week to decide whether or not to continue to allow Ellison membership in CTFAS.
One week later, Congressman Klein’s office said that he would not remove Ellison, stating that Ellison told him that he had “publicly denounced” and would continue to publicly denounce the anti-Semitism from the groups in question.
To this day, Ellison has yet to denounce anything concerning these groups, anti-Semitic or otherwise. Instead, he continues to be involved with them, giving the keynote speech once again at MAS-Minnesota’s annual convention and even allowing MAS-Minnesota to finance his trip (“pilgrimage”) to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. As well, he gave the keynote speech at CAIR-Chicago’s Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium (MYLS), where he allowed himself to be photographed shoulder to shoulder with Hamas operative and HLF trial co-conspirator, Jamal Said.
Congressman Mike Pence’s office has deferred its position on the matter to Congressman Klein’s office.
We understand that elected officials deserve a certain level of respect, especially from their colleagues. However, Congressman Ellison’s continued involvement with groups tied to terrorism and hate ideologies goes way beyond the pale of acceptable behavior. If CTFAS’s goal is to speak out against anti-Semitism, then it cannot in good conscience have as a member an individual who is associated with organizations that harbor such bigotry. We therefore call on you to take the necessary action to remove Keith Ellison from CTFAS.

27 June The life that God gives, no man should extinguish. The illegitimate mullahs presently ruling Iran blatantly violate this sacred covenant by shooting at a large number of peaceful demonstrators who are demanding nothing more than their God-Given-Right to liberty and pursuit of happiness. The mullahs and their mercenaries are wasting precious human life to maintain themselves in power through terrorizing the population. Our hearts are bleeding watching how brutally the government agents are beating up the children and assault them in their dormitories at night while they are sleeping or invade the sanctuary of their homes to beat them up or arrest them. Regretfully, the ruling regime sees these actions as part of their sacred duty. They see any defiance to the supreme leader as defiance to God. They call the demonstrators who just want their voices to be heard "terrorists," “thugs” and “agents of foreign governments.” If they do not shoot people outright, they savagely attack them with axes, chains, batons and any other crude weapons they can get their hands on.
We call upon the free governments of the world, as well as all other businesses, organizations and individuals to enlist in a non-violent campaign of ending the reign of terror of the belligerent clerical regime. Governments should enact the following:
* Renounce the use of force for ending the impasse.
* Declare unequivocally the commitment to respect the territorial integrity of Iran, as well as the rights of the Iranians to decide, through a democratic process, all matters pertaining to their life and country.
* Initiate, without delay or equivocation, a comprehensive program of assistance to all democratic Iranian opposition groups, both within as well as outside of Iran, in their struggle to accomplish the regime change themselves.
* Proclaim wide and far, the cardinal reason for taking these measures against the Mullahs' reign of terror is to prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons, the threat they pose to the region as well as to the world, and the stimulus they provide for other nations to develop their own nuclear arsenal.
* Enforce the U.N. sanctions by inspecting every vessel headed for Iranian ports to make sure they are not ferrying prohibited material. Other than vessels known to be carrying foodstuff and medicine, each ship should be subjected to elaborate inspection.
* Establish an Iran Assistance Fund, from Iran’s frozen assets as well as contributions from peace-loving individuals and organizations, to assist Iranian families during the hardship that the sanctions may create.
* Persuade Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and other Persian Gulf oil producers to significantly increase their output and drastically cut the price. It is what they must do to help forestall the emergence of a nuclear clerical Iran bent on ruling the region.
* Obtain court orders to freeze the overseas assets of Iranian leaders, since they are clearly ill-begotten funds that rightfully belong to the nation.
* Shut down, or severely restrict the operation of the Mullahs' businesses in Dubai and other Persian Gulf states.
* Reduce the staff or completely shut down Iranian missions. Severely restrict Iranian officials and nuclear scientists from foreign travel. Recall your ambassadors from Iran.
* Deny the Iranian airlines operation and encourage non-Iranian airlines to cease serving the country. Provide for flights that serve emergency medical and other health needs of the Iranians.
* File legal charges against the leaders of the Islamic Republic's wanton violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; for their crimes against humanity, genocidal actions against religious and political groups; for support of international terrorism; for demolition of religious sites and cemeteries; for rape, torture, and summary execution of prisoners of conscience; for forgery of documents, for acts of blackmail and fraud, and much more.
* Declare and treat the clerical regime as illegitimate.
* Stop or slow down Iran's import of refined petroleum products.
* Shut down the Islamic Republic's web sites and block their television and radio broadcasts.
* Locate and seize the regime's front organizations such as Alavi Foundation in New York City.
* Identify the agents of the Islamic Republic and prosecute them as promoters of international terrorism.
* Investigate individuals and organizations that lobby or front for the Islamic Republic.
* Take all necessary steps to stop investments in Iran. Persuade banks to refrain from dealing with Iran and the issuance of letters of credit.
* Pressure businesses to stop dealing with Iran.
* Pressure governments to stop doing business with Iran. Warn countries such as China and Russia against circumventing the U.N. resolution and engaging in commercial adventurism.
We, the undersigned, are greatly concerned that the confrontational course of the illegitimate clerical regime of Iran may ignite the flame of war. We urge the leadership as well as people of the world to join in the non-violent campaign of dislodging the mullahs and helping Iranians to establish a secular democracy. To: U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve, and Congress  On November 10, 2008, the U.S. Federal Reserve Board announced that the U.S. federal government was buying $40 billion of AIG stock making U.S. taxpayers owners in AIG's business. AIG refuses to divest its Islamic supremacist Sharia-based financial and Sharia-based insurance businesses, making American taxpayers now effectively owners of Sharia-based businesses that promote Islamic supremacism. As America is founded on the inalienable human rights of equality and liberty, it is unacceptable for American taxpayers to be forced to own any business that supports a supremacist ideology.
The American people demand the following:
(a) The American people must call for the immediate freeze of all American taxpayer funds to AIG until it divests of its Sharia financial businesses.
(b) The American federal government must give AIG an ultimatum to divest itself of its Sharia business or the America federal government must divest all ownership in AIG.
(c) Those in the American federal government responsible for the bailout and purchase of AIG stock must resign, including the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Board Chairman.
(d) Leaders in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives must lead a national investigation into Sharia-Compliant Finance (SCF) and Sharia financial businesses in America to end their ability to promote the Islamic supremacist ideology in America.

WHEREAS perpetual crisis in the Gaza Strip is the problem that neither Palestinian nor Israeli governments are able to resolve, and
WHEREAS two decades of Egyptian control was arguably the most peaceful period in recent Gaza history;
We call on the government of Egypt to annex the Gaza Strip and declare Egyptian rule over the area.
Furthermore, we call on the United Nations to pass a resolution accepting and allowing for the occurrence of this takeover by Egypt.
Up until this point, little has worked in regard to a peaceful settlement between Israel and Gaza. This problem, if not resolved, could only escalate tensions for the future. We feel that this is the best solution for what seems to be a never-ending bad situation.

Goldstein and Aaron Meyer On Wednesday, freedom of speech in Europe took a new and devastating turn, as a Dutch appellate court ordered the prosecution of Geert Wilders, parliamentarian and filmmaker, charging him with "inciting hatred and discrimination" against Muslims for his film exposing the threat of radical Islam. This ruling comes a mere six months after the public prosecutor's office found Wilders' dialogue contributed to the debate on Islam and that he had not committed any criminal offense. Now, curiously, the court has done an about-face and decreed that charges may be brought against the politician, and that prosecuting him is somehow in "the public interest." After releasing a ten-minute self-produced film entitled "Fitna," Wilders found himself wound up in a litany of "hate speech" litigation, one such suit filed by a radical Imam asking for 55,000 Euros in compensation for his hurt feelings. Ironically, the film's narrative is primarily comprised of quotes from the Koran which incite violence and death to "infidels" as well as scenes of an Imam preaching death to the Jews. Akin to something out of the Twilight Zone, the Imams who routinely spout hate speech from the pulpit and who are instigating these suits are never themselves charged with incitement to immediate violence. Moreover if the film "Fitna," which merely quotes the Koran and depicts angry Imams, is "hate speech" then what is the Koran itself? Suspiciously, the wording of the appellate court's ruling strongly echoes public criticism made by the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) when the earlier prosecution was dropped, where the OIC censured prosecutors for ignoring the "thin line separating freedom of speech and the instigation of hatred, animosity and discrimination." Stop Sharia from becoming official in the United States
Sharia has many elements. Some of these may differ in law and practice from country to country
Samples of some of the Sharia family law edicts include:
- The value of a woman's life is one half of the life of a man.
- The testimony of two women is equal to the testimony of one man
- Daughters get half the inheritance the sons get.
- A woman does not have the right to divorce her husband
- A man can divorce his wife any time he wishes and without her knowledge.
- Men are allowed to marry four wives and as many wives as they can buy.
- Women can not travel, work, go to school, or even leave the house without their husband's permission.
- A woman must live where her husband decides.
- Mothers do not get the custody of their children when their husbands divorce them.
- Husbands can take the baby away from the mother and have another woman feed and raise the infant.
- A widow does not get the custody of her children after the death of her husband. The children will be given to the paternal grand parents of relatives, and the mother has no right of visitation.
- If the husband has no family, the community clergy takes the custody of the woman's children including the family money and belongings.
- In the case of a man's death, the wife will be left without her children, home and property.
- In the case of inheritance for the old wife, mother of grown children, she gets one eighth of the value of the building of the house, not the land that the house is sitting on.
- Marriage between a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim man is forbidden and invalid, while a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman.
- If a Muslim woman is raped she cannot bring the rapist to justice without four witnesses to testify in favor of her claim, otherwise she would be punished for adultery
- Muslim men are allowed to beat their wives to discipline them.
Do we want to allow the application of this harsh class of citizenship on our current liberal democratic system? If a family Sharia law would be recognized by our legislative body wouldn't that negate the principal of our current human rights?
We hereby ask members of the US Congress to takes steps through resolutions or laws that would prevent Sharia and Sharia practices from becoming official US legal provisions anywhere in the United States.
