  Muslim American Society President Esam Omeish has lost the June 2009 Democrat primary in Virginian House District 35. According to election results, Dr. Omeish finished 3rd out of four candidates with 15.7 percent of the vote as opposed to the 55.1 percent received by the winner in a landslide result. Dr. Omeish was also reported to be the top donor to his campaign contributing $52,000 of the some $90,000 total contributions. Dr. Omeish also received three contributions from the International Institute Of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and related businesses: * $3,500 International Institute of Islamic Thought * $2,000 Reston Investments * $1,500 Mar-Jac Investments Inc IIIT is part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. In addition, Dr. Omeish received two contributions from Aly R Abuzaakouk and his family: * $1,100 Aly R Abuzaakouk * $2,000 Anas Abuzaakouk According to an online cv, Mr. Abuzaakouk is Executive Director of the American Muslim Council (AMC), has served as an active member of the organization since its inception in 1990 and is also currently the Vice-President of the Minaret of Freedom Institute.  There is growing circumstantial evidence that former Muslim American Society (MAS) President Esam Omeish is waging a stealth campaign in his bid to win Tuesday's Democratic primary for Virginia's House of Delegates District 35. As we've noted, the Omeish campaign has been silent on his past leadership at MAS, an organization founded by the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States. And he has done all he can to ignore his incendiary 2000 speech praising Palestinians who choose "the jihad way" to liberation. In 2007, media attention on that speech prompted Omeish to resign from a state immigration panel to which Gov. Tim Kaine had appointed him. But it didn't stop Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from including Omeish in a conference call Thursday featuring Muslim Americans reacting to President Obama's speech to Muslims from Cairo. On Friday, MAS issued a call for Election Day volunteers. Although the solicitation does not mention Omeish, it was distributed through Omeish's Falls Church mosque, the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center. According to a May 9 story on the swine flu outbreak, Omeish was still an imam at Dar al-Hijra just weeks ago. He remains listed as a member of the mosque's board of directors. On the eve of a Democratic primary election in Virginia, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has handed a public relations bonanza to an Islamist candidate who has praised Palestinians for choosing "the jihad way" to liberation. Esam Omeish is considered a dark-horse candidate in the Virginia House of Delegates District 35 race. The primary is Tuesday. On Thursday, Clinton invited Omeish to participate in a national conference call to discuss President Obama's Cairo speech aimed at repairing America's image with Muslims.  The last time the public got a good look at Esam Omeish, he was resigning from a Virginia immigration panel, claiming that the posting of videos showing him praising Palestinians who chose "the jihad way" to liberate their land was part of a smear campaign against him. Now Omeish is diving into the deep end of smear campaigns, offering himself as a candidate for a partisan legislative seat in Northern Virginia. Omeish is among four Democrats vying to win their party's nomination in District 35 in the Virginia House of Delegates. According to his campaign website, Omeish would focus on health care, traffic congestion and education if sent to Richmond. The site emphasizes his Northern Virginia roots and his medical career. It borrows themes from Barack Obama's presidential campaign, including a logo emphasizing the letter "O" from his last name.  Local media is reporting that Esam Omeish, the President of the Muslim American Society (MAS), has joined the race for a vacant seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. According to the report: Elections for vacant seats in the House of Delegates are always interesting, but the Democratic nomination fight in the 35th District looks like it'll be interesting indeed. Esam Omeish, a pediatric surgeon from Northern Virginia, has joined the race to succeed Del. Steve Shannon, D-Vienna. The 35th District includes the areas of Fairfax County just north and west of the city of Fairfax. Shannon is running for Attorney General. Omeish, the president of the Muslim American Society at the time, came into the political limelight nearly two years ago after he was appointed to the Commission on Immigration by Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine. The appointment didn't sit well with Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock, a fellow member of the commission. The society was too closely connected the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian group that gave rise to Hamas, for his taste. Gilbert wrote to Kaine and asked him to reconsider the appointment. Since the attacks on 9/11, we have heard a number of voices from the Islamic community say that suicide is forbidden in Islam. At the same time, we have heard Muslim voices state that the Palestinian form of suicide -- what has been referred to as “martyrdom operations” -- are perfectly legitimate and are not actually suicide. One of the voices that is playing both sides of this dual game is the Muslim American Society (MAS), an extremist group tied to the violent Muslim Brotherhood overseas. MAS was incorporated in the state of Illinois, in June of 1993. According to a December 2007 federal court brief concerning convicted terrorist Sabri Benkahla, a former member of the infamous 'Virginia Jihad Network,' "MAS was founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America." [PDF] Amongst its founders was Mohamed Mahdi Akef, who is today the International Chairman of the Brotherhood. Listed on the MAS incorporation as "President" is Esam Omeish. Besides his position with MAS, Omeish's claim to fame is that, in September of 2007, he was forced to resign his government appointed position on the Virginia Commission of Immigration, after video footage surfaced showing him advocating violent jihad against Israelis.
