White House Mum on Gadhafi Grants

By John Rossomando

The White House declined to comment on a letter that an Illinois Republican send to President Obama demanding that he cancel funding for two $200,000 State Department grants to groups belonging to Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi's children.

Rep. Mark Kirk wrote the letter after the State Department notified the House Appropriations Committee on Sept. 15 of its intent to provide the foundation belonging to the Libyan dictator’s son, Saif, with a $200,000 and an additional $200,000 to Wa’ettasmeno UNDP Foundation run by his daughter, Aisha.

“Last month, when Scotland freed Abel Baset al-Megrahi, the only man convicted in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, Gadhafi greeted him with a hero’s welcome,” Kirk wrote in his Sept. 23 letter to President Obama. “As you know, Megrahi was accompanied back to Libya by Gadhafi's son, Saif, who was involved with negotiations for Megrahi’s release. Just weeks after the Gadhafi family celebrated the return of a terrorist for the murders of 189 Americans, the U.S. taxpayer should not be asked to reward them with $400,000. For the sake of the victims’ families who have endured so much pain these last few weeks, I ask you to withdraw your Administration’s request.” Read more ...

NJ town wishes to make no room for Gadhafi

Rothman

By Samantha Henry & Victor Epstein

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — When Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi comes to the United Nations next month, he wants to pitch his special air-conditioned tent on a lawn in New Jersey, a proposal that has outraged neighbors and added insult to injury in a state that lost 33 residents in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.

Residents of the New York suburb are riled by reports that Gadhafi may stay in a Bedouin tent on a Libyan-owned estate there and would prefer that he set up shop elsewhere, said Rep. Steve Rothman, whose congressional district includes Englewood.

"Gadhafi is a dangerous dictator whose hands are covered with the blood of Americans and our allies," Rothman said, promising there would be "hell to pay" if the State Department violated a deal barring the dictator from staying at the Libyan estate.

Department officials said Monday that no decision has been made on where Gadhafi will set up shop. Read more ...

Tony Blair Sealed Lockerbie Oil Deal with Gaddafi

BP
By Jim Meyers

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been accused of sealing a "blood money" deal with Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi that led to the release of a Lockerbie bomber just hours before BP (British Petroleum) unveiled a $900 million oil contract with Libya.

Blair as prime minister laid the groundwork for the freeing of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi during a meeting with Gaddafi in Libya two years ago, Britain's Daily Mail reported.

"The pair thrashed out a controversial prisoner transfer deal just before BP Chairman Peter Sutherland announced the firm was investing $900 million to search for oil in Libya," according to the newspaper.

Megrahi was convicted of killing 270 people when a transatlantic airliner crashed near Lockerbie, Scotland, in December 1988, after a bomb exploded on board. He was sentenced to life in prison, but was released by Scottish authorities on Thursday and returned to Libya. Read more ...

Dhimmiheart: Scotland, the CIA and Yale in acts of surrender to the jihad.

Dhimmiheart
By Jed Babbin

If only there were a conspiracy to blame, but there isn’t. It would be comforting, in a perverse way, to discover a home video showing Scottish Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill, CIA Director Leon Panetta and the bosses of Yale University Press smoking cigars and playing cards with Muammar Gaddafi.

But there is no conspiracy, only a rampant loss of will to defend freedom in the West. Today’s release of the long-awaited CIA Inspector General’s report on terrorist interrogations rides close upon the heels of Scotland’s “compassionate” release of a terrorist mass-murderer and an act of self-censorship by Yale Press that are, each in its turn, acts of surrender to the terrorist nations that war against us.

Abdel Basset Ali Al-Megrahi -- an agent of Libyan intelligence -- was found guilty of putting a bomb on board Pan Am flight 103 in December 1988, resulting in an explosion that killed 270 people, including 189 Americans on board and 11 Scots on the ground below. Last week’s decision by MacAskill to free Megrahi was an act of phony compassion. Read more ...

Muammar Gaddafi’s New York visit angers families of Lockerbie victims

Two hundred and seventy lives were lost

Families of those killed in the Lockerbie bombing have expressed shock and outrage that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader, is to visit New York, the destination of the doomed Pan Am Flight 103.

The UN has disclosed that Colonel Gaddafi, who is blamed for the bombing of the aircraft in 1988 and loss of 270 lives, will address the 192-nation General Assembly in New York.

The newly released UN schedule calls for Colonel Gaddafi to speak directly after President Obama on the opening day of the annual session on September 23, raising the prospect of a second encounter between the two.

The trip will be Colonel Gaddafi’s first visit to the US after decades of conflict between Washington and Tripoli and 11 years of UN sanctions on Libya. It follows his recent rehabilitation on the international scene, which culminated in a 40-minute meeting with Gordon Brown and a handshake with Mr Obama at the G8 summit in Italy this month. Court mulls releasing Lockerbie bomber

Lockerbie
November 06, 2008

LOCKERBIE, Scotland: A court will consider tomorrow whether to release the Libyan man convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing on bail because he has cancer.

The hearing has been scheduled after a lawyer for Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet Al-Megrahi, 56 - behind bars for downing a transatlantic airliner over Scotland in 1988 killing 270 people - said Al-Megrahi has advanced prostate cancer.

The Crown Office, which handles prosecutions in Scotland, confirmed the hearing but made no further comment. Such applications are usually decided on the day, but a spokesman declined to speculate on when a ruling could be made.

Al-Megrahi is serving life with a minimum term of 27 years in a Scottish prison for blowing up Pan Am flight 103 from London to New York over the Scottish town of Lockerbie on the night of December 21, 1998.

His lawyers have applied for his release on bail pending an appeal, which is not expected until next year.

The father of one of the victims, who has criticised the slow appeals process, backed Al-Megrahi's provisional release.

“The man has reportedly got months to live,” said Jim Swire, whose daughter Flora died in the bombing and who became a spokesman for the Lockerbie victims' families in the years following the tragedy.

“My personal feelings are that to force him to remain segregated from his family and his five children for the short remaining time that he may have before him would amount to exquisite torture,” he told the BBC last week.
