Muslim group asks Obama for protection

By Art Moore

WND investigation seen as example of 'alarming level of anti-Islam hate'

Citing the impact of the WND Books expose "Muslim Mafia" as an example of rampant "anti-Islam hate in our nation," the Council on American-Islamic Relations called on President Obama yesterday to address what it calls an "alarming" problem.

CAIR – which has filed suit against "Muslim Mafia" co-author P. David Gaubatz and his son for an undercover investigation of the group's terrorist ties – distributed a list of "anti-Islam incidents" that included "a call by far-right members of the U.S. House of Representatives to investigate Muslim interns on Capitol Hill as 'spies.'"

"President Obama is in the best position to address the alarming level of anti-Islam hate in our nation and to urge religious and political leaders to speak out in support of tolerance and mutual understanding," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

As WND reported, Reps. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., John Shadegg, R-Ariz., Trent Franks, R-Ariz., Paul Broun, R-Ga., formally asked the House sergeant at arms in October to investigate evidence from "Muslim Mafia" that CAIR is conspiring to plant "spies" inside Congress targeting sensitive security-related committees. In another letter, to Attorney General Eric Holder, the House members ask the Justice Department to reveal to Congress members why CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror-finance case in U.S. history.

Last month, the four lawmakers were joined by Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., and Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., in a letter urging the Internal Revenue Service to investigate CAIR to determine whether the Muslim group's lobbying activities on Capitol Hill violate its nonprofit status.

"Muslim Mafia" uncovered confidential CAIR memos revealing that in one year alone, CAIR officials made 72 separate trips to Congress to lobby against the Patriot Act. The same year Congress met fewer than 150 days.

U.S. prosecutors believe CAIR, while claiming to be a civil-rights group, is actually a front group for Hamas and other terrorists. The Justice Department stated in September 2007 during its prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation in Dallas that CAIR "has been identified by the government at trial as a participant in an ongoing and ultimately unlawful conspiracy to support a designated terrorist organization, a conspiracy from which CAIR never withdrew."

CAIR said its annual national report on the status of American Muslim civil rights, released this month, showed an increase in bias-related incidents in 2008.

CAIR has claimed since the 9/11 terrorist attacks that Muslims in the U.S. have suffered a sharp rise in anti-Islamic abuse.

The group's 2005 abuse report, blamed a purported increase in anti-Muslim harassment, violence and discriminatory treatment on the Internet and talk radio.

But FBI data actually has shown the number of incidents is dramatically shrinking.

The 2006 total of 156, for example, was a 68 percent drop from 2001.

Moreover, incidents against Muslims were just a fraction of overall hate crimes. In 2006, 66 percent of religiously motivated attacks targeted Jews, while just 11 percent were against Muslims, even though the Jewish and Muslim populations are similar in size.

In its letter to Obama, CAIR cited recent incidents in Florida in which a cross with the message "Christian nation, Christian community" was planted at the site of a planned mosque and an anti-Islam Christmas display was set up by a local church.

Other incidents listed were "a spate of vandalism incidents at mosques nationwide" and "anti-Islam remarks by Christian evangelist Franklin Graham."

CAIR's director Awad said Obama himself has been "targeted by anti-Muslim hate despite the fact that he is Christian," noting a Colorado car dealer recently put up a billboard depicting the president as a "turban-wearing militant."

Awad pointed to recent remarks made to a Muslim and Arab-American gathering in Michigan by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in which he said the Justice Department will return to its "traditional" role of ensuring civil rights. The president has signed a spending measure that will give the Justice Department's civil rights division 102 new staff members, many of whom will be assigned to hate-crimes investigations.

CAIR said it began airing a new public service announcement called "I am Muslim, I am American" yesterday on the CBS Super Screen in New York City's Times Square.

FBI steps in

CAIR's suit against the Gaubatzes claims they stole sensitive material from the group's Washington office under false pretenses. But lawyers for the defendants filed a motion to dismiss the case this week that contends CAIR has no claim because it does not legally exist.

A federal judge in Washington issued a restraining order Nov. 3 barring the Gaubtazes from further use or publication of the material – 12,000 pages of documents along with audio and video recordings – and demanding that they return it to the Muslim group's lawyers. But the FBI stepped into the case Nov. 23 with a warrant to examine the papers and recordings, apparently as part of its concern about CAIR and its terrorist links to Hamas. The bureau cut off ties to CAIR after the Islamic group was named an unindicted terror co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case.

"Muslim Mafia," by David Gaubatz and "Infiltration" author Paul Sperry, asserts CAIR is acting as a front for a conspiracy of the Muslim Brotherhood – the parent of al-Qaida and Hamas – to infiltrate the U.S. and help pave the way for Saudi-style Islamic law to rule the nation.

Lawmakers ask IRS to investigate CAIR

A senator and five Congress members are urging the Internal Revenue Service to investigate the Council on American-Islamic Relations to determine whether the controversial Muslim group's lobbying activities on Capitol Hill violate its nonprofit status.

The letter to IRS Commissioner Douglas H. Shulman is signed by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and members of the House

antiterrorism caucus, Reps. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., John Shadegg, R-Ariz., Trent Franks, R-Ariz., Paul Broun, R-Ga., and Patrick McHenry, R-N.C.

The Washington, D.C.-based CAIR – which had its relationship with the FBI cut off this year after being named an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror-finance case in U.S. history – has been under increased scrutiny since the release of "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America," a WND Books publication by former Air Force special agent P. David Gaubatz and "Infiltration" author Paul Sperry.

The authors present firsthand evidence CAIR is acting as a front for a well-funded conspiracy of the Muslim Brotherhood – the parent of al-Qaida and Hamas – to infiltrate the U.S. and help pave the way for Saudi-style Islamic law to rule the nation.

The letter, also addressed to the House clerk, Senate secretary and Senate superintendent of records, points to evidence uncovered in "Muslim Mafia" that CAIR may be in violation of both the anti-excessive-lobbying provision of its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 by failing to register with Congress as a federal lobbying organization.

As CAIR's own website states, the group's Governmental Affairs Department "conducts and organizes lobbying efforts on issues related to Islam and Muslims."

CAIR says its department is "active in monitoring legislation and government activities and then, responding on behalf of the American Muslim community. CAIR representatives have testified before Congress and have sponsored a number of activities designed to bring Muslim concerns to Capitol Hill."

As WND reported last month, Myrick, Shadegg, Franks and Broun formally asked the House sergeant at arms to investigate evidence from "Muslim Mafia" that CAIR is conspiring to plant "spies" inside Congress targeting sensitive security-related committees.

In another letter, to Attorney General Eric Holder, the House members ask the Justice Department to reveal to Congress members why CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror-finance case in U.S. history.

"Muslim Mafia" points out CAIR, as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, is severely restricted from lobbying and expressly prohibited from political campaigning.

Rep. Sue Myrick Takes a Stand on Obama, Fort Hood and CAIR

Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Representative Sue Myrick (R, NC-9), who is leading the charge nationally on issues related to terrorism. The founder of the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus, she has recently called for an investigation of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

FP: Rep. Sue Myrick, welcome to Frontpage Interview.

Myrick: Thank you Jamie.

FP: It is an honor to speak with you.

I’d like to talk to you today about a few things connected to our terror war, especially the tragedy that just occurred at Fort Hood and also your call for CAIR to be investigated.

Let’s start with the jihad at Fort Hood. What are your thoughts?

Myrick: My first thoughts were of the families of the victims. These are our soldiers, the people who sign up to defend our country, and you just can’t imagine what their loved ones are going through.

But this isn’t something that we can ignore. The shooter was radicalized and was a jihadist.

The several terror plots uncovered across the country over the past few months all have one common thing: they are all connected by a radical global ideology that is self-identified by its believers as jihadist, or “jihadiyya.”

These men were from different backgrounds and races, yet they were all guided by this radical ideology.

The American people need to wake up and realize this is not going to stop. We need to seriously address the issue of this radical ideology.

That is why I have been working with many mainstream moderate Muslims, and trying to help empower them to speak out and confront this radical ideology within their community.

FP: And this radical ideology has been very much been protected and bolstered by groups like CAIR.

Tell us why you have called for an investigation of that supposed Muslim “civil rights” organization.

Myrick: The FBI has publicly stated CAIR has ties to HAMAS, a designated terrorist organization. This was clearly stated in a letter the FBI sent to Sen. Jon Kyl on April 28, 2009:

Investigate 'Muslim Mafia,' new petition tells Congress

By Bob Unruh

'Where there's smoke, there's fire,' says longtime Arab television anchor

A former Arab news anchor–turned–national security advocate has created a petition demanding that the subjects of the new book "Muslim Mafia" be investigated.

"We call on the U.S. government to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in the interest of national security," says the new petition by Brigitte Gabriel, who now runs the ACT! for America organization.

Gabriel covered news throughout Israel, Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, and her work brought her into contact with British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President George H.W. Bush and Israeli leaders Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Ariel Sharon.

She moved to the United States in 1989 and founded a television production company as well as ACT! for America, which is dedicated to educating millions about the threat of radical Islam to world peace and national security.

Now her petition, which already has attracted thousands of signatures, demands:

  • The U.S. Department of Justice share with each member of the U.S. Congress an executive summary of the findings that led them to name CAIR as a co-conspirator in a terrorism case.

  • The House Sergeant at Arms work with all members of Congress and their top staff, particularly those members who sit on the House Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Intelligence Committees, to perform background checks on staff under their employ, considering evidence that CAIR has strategically worked to place staffers there.

  • The U.S. Internal Revenue Service perform a full and thorough investigation into the business activities of CAIR, specifically their lobbying activities, to judge if they are in violation of their federal non-profit status as a 501(c)(3) organization.

Her points are similar to the demands of four members of Congress who were alarmed at the revelations in "Muslim Mafia," by Paul Sperry and David Gaubatz, which was based on an extended undercover operation at the organization that lobbies for Muslim interests but is considered by many in law enforcement to be a front group for terrorists.

Reps. Sue Myrick, R-N.C.; Trent Franks, R-Ariz.; John Shadegg, R-Ariz.; and Paul Broun, R-Ga., have called for an internal House investigation as well as for a review from the Department of Justice about CAIR's activities.

Gabriel is a member of the board of advisers of the Intelligence Summit, lectures on global terrorism and is author of New York Times best-sellers "Because They Hate: A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America" and "They Must Be Stopped: Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It."

Her petition declares, "It's time for a federal investigation of CAIR."

House Republicans Ask for Inquiry Into Whether Muslim Group CAIR Is 'Security Threat'

Four House Republicans formally requested an investigation into the Council on American Islamic Relations this week after charging that the nation's largest Muslim advocacy group tried to "infiltrate" Capitol Hill with interns.

The lawmakers based most of their claims on an internal memo and the book "Muslim Mafia," which describes CAIR's purported strategy to influence members of Congress on the Judiciary, Intelligence and Homeland Security Committees. They raised concerns about CAIR in large part because the Justice Department named the group as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism case.

In a letter to Sergeant-At-Arms Wilson Livingood, the lawmakers urged him to review the group's alleged ties to Hamas and "determine if CAIR is a security threat." They also asked that he determine whether the group was successful in placing interns on key House panels.

"If you find that CAIR is a security threat, we ask that you take the appropriate security measures," they wrote.

The Intelligence Committee does not accept interns, and the Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees select candidates on a case-by-case basis with no preferential treatment given to any group, congressional aides told Foxnews.com.

The Homeland Security Committee, which was made permanent only four years ago, has not had any interns sponsored by CAIR in at least three years, an aide to the panel said, adding that he could not confirm whether a CAIR intern had ever assisted the panel. It's also not clear whether any candidates sponsored by CAIR applied during that period, the aide said.

The Judiciary Committee has not had any CAIR interns since May, an aide said.

Reps. Sue Myrick of North Carolina, Trent Franks of Arizona, Paul Broun of Georgia and John Shadegg of Arizona raised serious concerns about the group and wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder urging him to provide Congress with a summary of why the group was named as a co-conspirator.

But other lawmakers have rushed to the organization's defense. A CAIR spokesman accused the Republican representatives of being "Muslim bashers" by trying to exclude Muslims from the political process.

'Now we have proof' jihadis infiltrating D.C.

By Art Moore

In the wake of the sensational ACORN video sting operation by two young investigators, an even more daring and devastating undercover investigation – this one infiltrating the nation's most aggressive Muslim "civil rights" organization for six months – has produced stunning revelations about the supposedly "moderate" group, backed up by 12,000 pages of documents obtained during the secret op.

As revealed in a new book detailing the operation and its findings, the Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, is not the beneficent Muslim civil-rights group it claims to be.

Indisputable evidence now shows CAIR and other "mainstream" Islamic groups are acting as fronts for a well-funded conspiracy of the Muslim Brotherhood – the parent of al-Qaida and Hamas – to infiltrate and destroy the American system.

Until now, CAIR has remained a powerful force in the nation's capital and across the country, from demanding the Obama administration stop FBI counter-terrorism tactics to compelling a school district to apologize to Muslims.

That influence, many believe, may be coming to an end, as a result of the undercover investigation – which included the son of a veteran counter-terrorism investigator, who grew a beard and converted to Islam, as well as two veiled female interns.

"Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America," a WND Books publication by counter-terrorism investigator P. David Gaubatz and "Infiltration" author Paul Sperry, documents CAIR's ultimate purpose to transform the United States into an Islamic nation under the authority of the Quran.

The book already has prompted action on Capitol Hill.

With evidence from "Muslim Mafia" in hand, U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., co-founder of the Congressional Anti-Terror Caucus, and other members of Congress – including Reps. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., and Paul Broun, R-Ga. – plan to hold a press conference today in Washington calling for an investigation and an end to political lobbying by front groups such as CAIR.

"Now we have proof – from the secret documents that this investigative team has uncovered, coupled with the ones recently declassified by the FBI – that [radical Islamists] agents living among us have a plan in place, and they are successfully carrying out that subversive plan," Myrick writes in the foreword to "Muslim Mafia."

Noting that CAIR has tried to hide its strategy, finances, membership, internal disputes and much more from public view since its founding in 1994, Islam expert Daniel Pipes lauded "Muslim Mafia" for definitively exposing the "tawdry and possibly illegal inner workings of radical Islam's most aggressive organization in North America."

Is ‘Islam’ at war with us?

Crescent

By Frank Gaffney Jr

Last week, John Brennan, the assistant to the President for homeland security and counterterrorism approvingly recalled a key point in the speech Mr. Obama delivered in Cairo in June: “America is not and never will be at war with Islam.” Unfortunately, that statement ignores the fact that the decision as to whether the United States is at war with anybody is not entirely up to our leadership or people. The real question is: Is ‘Islam’ at war with us?

It is certainly true that hundreds of millions of Muslims the world over are not seeking to wage war against the United States, or other non-Muslim states. America has, as Mr. Brennan noted in his remarks before the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on Thursday, a powerful interest in not making all those who practice Islam into our enemies.

Yet, it would be a grave mistake to construe the problem we face as John Brennan proceeded to do in his speech at CSIS: “We are at war with al Qaeda which attacked us on 9/11 and killed 3,000 people. We are at war with its violent extremist allies who seek to carry on al-Qaida’s murderous agenda.” He described that agenda as seeking “to replace sovereign nations with a global caliphate.”

Unfortunately, that is the stated goal of all those who adhere to what authoritative Islam calls Shariah - a number that includes many millions of people the world over. Mr. Brennan’s speech made no reference to this wellspring of jihadism.

Of course, not all those who embrace Shariah are prepared to use terror against us. Shariah requires though that if its adherents do not actually engage in violent jihad, they must support it through financial or other means.

After all, according to Shariah, the purpose of jihad is to bring about the triumph of Islam over the entire world. Shariah commands that the faithful must use violence where possible to advance that objective, and non-violent means where not.

By failing to recognize this justification and catalyst for the threat we face, Mr. Obama and his administration effectively foreclose the possibility of countering it effectively. Worse yet, in their understandable desire not to give gratuitous offense to Muslims, the U.S. government has repeatedly deferred to those who are most easily and most vocally offended.

Specifically, the latter - notably, the putatively non-violent, but virulently Islamist Muslim Brotherhood and its myriad front organizations - have come to dictate what our officials can and cannot say about the danger posed not just by al Qaeda and its “violent extremist allies,” but by all those who embrace the teachings, traditions, institutions and dictates of what authoritative Islam defines as “mainstream”: Shariah.

This practice effectively disenfranchises American Muslims who reject this Shariah program - precisely the sorts of people we should most want to empower.

Last week, I discussed this problem on our talk radio program with someone who is trying to do something about it: Rep. Sue Myrick of North Carolina. Read more here ...

Myrick Hosts "Moderate Muslim Summit" in Congress; Media Ignores It

Sue Myrick
(Washington, DC) – Leaders from eight moderate Muslim organizations met on Monday with US Agency heads, Members of Congress and congressional staff at the US Capitol. These meeting were part of an historic Moderate Muslim Summit organized by US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09). The summit was a first of its kind because it assembled the largest group of diverse Muslims in the US Capitol to discuss issues and policy impacting Muslim communities and societies.

At the summit, Muslim leaders were able to meet with representatives from the State Department, USAID, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense in order to emphasize the importance of having a diverse Muslim voice when addressing Muslim communities and societies. They shared their thoughts and opinions on US foreign policy and aid, and how the US government can do a better job at reaching out and hearing from a more diverse group of Muslims rather than just the largest Muslim organizations who represent a minority opinion in the Muslim community.

“I’ve been working with many of these leaders for several years now,” said Rep. Myrick. “They give us valuable input on policy and provide us with new ideas on how to stamp out extremism in their communities and societies around the word. We set up this summit so we could introduce them to other Members of Congress and US agencies in hopes they will use them as a resource as well. It was very successful and I believe this summit was the first step to empower these leaders so that they will be a strong force in helping our government in combating radical Islamists and extremism”.

Leaders from the following organizations were present at the Summit:

Dr. Hedieh Mirahmadi- President World Organization for Resource Development and Education (WORDE)

Dr Zeyno Baran- Director for the Center for Eurasian Policy at the Hudson Institute

Farid Ghadry- President of the Reform Party of Syria

Manda Zand Ervin the founder and director of the Alliance of Iranian Women

Dr. Ali H. Alyami- Executive Director, The Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Saudi Arabia

Omran Salman- Arab Reformists Project, 'Aafaq (Arabic for “horizons”).

Dr. Zudi Jasser, American Islamic Forum for Democracy

Karim Bromund, Director of Inter-Religious Affairs for the Islamic Supreme Council of America

Dr Walid Phares, Senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and academic advisor to the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus, moderated the summit. "This first summit of ideologically moderate Muslim American NGOs and leaders held in the US Congress is only a first step in a new direction so that an alternative voice would be added to the debate within the community and about the issues related to foreign policy, defense, national security, and radicalization," said Phares. "This meeting is a sample of the forthcoming initiatives and projects that the NGOs have in mind. Future summits will include a wider circle of leaders and groups. But note that even at this early stage, the Myrick sponsored summit included representatives from various backgrounds: Sunni and Shia, Arab and Iranian, American and foreign born, religious and secular, etc."

Phares added: "the issues discussed with representatives from the State Department, the Defense Department, and US Aid covered a wide range of concerns from terrorism, counter radicalization, humanitarian assistance to community participation in national perception of Muslim public affairs." Phares said that the initial idea, as raised by Representative Myrick who serves as co-chair of the Anti-Terrorism Caucus in the US House, "is to help diversity grow in the debate among Muslim Americans and within the national community on issues important to all citizens." He said that the voices of democracy and pluralism seeking Muslim Americans should be heard by legislators, the Administration and the public."

Mr. President, Listen to the Iranian People

Obama
By Rep. Sue Myrick

President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

As demonstrators in Iran continue to voice their support for democracy, I am deeply concerned that Iranian-American voices are not being heard. Their cultural and personal ties to the uprising in Iran are invaluable and deserve the attention of our great country.

Mr. President, below are a sample of statements on the uprising from Iranian-American leaders from across the US. I hope you will have your staff contact the people behind these statements to utilize their knowledge. No one better understands Iran, and what is happening on the ground there, than those with direct links to the country. Few in America should have greater say about our policy toward Iran than Iranian-Americans who fear for the safety of their friends and family still living in Iran.
"Mr. President it is now proven to you and your advisors that no matter what you say or don’t say the Islamic regime in Iran, like all other dictators, will blame United States because without it they have no other reason for being in power. This is an inescapable fact. Your advisors also know that the Islamic regime in Iran will drag negotiations without any outcome the history has proven this fact. Now that the people of Iran have been able to use a window of opportunity to prove to the world that this regime is not their representative, standing with them, is the right political decision to make. Oppressed people have always looked to America for freedom." Read more ...

Mueller's In-Box Draws More Praise for CAIR Cutoff

FBI
Three Republican U.S. House members have written to FBI Director Robert Mueller, applauding the Bureau's decision last summer to cut off contact with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
CAIR
The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) reported Jan. 29 that concerns over CAIR's roots in a Hamas-support network prompted the cut off. Information linking CAIR and founders Omar Ahmad and Nihad Awad to that Hamas support effort were unveiled in the prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF).

Jurors convicted five HLF officials on 108 counts in the case in November.

On Monday, U.S. Reps. Sue Myrick (R-NC), Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and Paul Broun (R-GA) wrote Mueller "to express our strong support for this action." Myrick leads the bi-partisan Anti-Terrorism Caucus.

The letter cites a specific exhibit from the HLF trial, a Muslim Brotherhood memorandum about the group's goal in North America. It described that goal as "a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions." "Beware of CAIR" say Members of Congress to their colleagues

By Jerry Gordon

CAIR

Several members of the U.S. House of Representatives Anti-Terror Caucus have sent a Dear Colleague letter today emblazoned with the warning: "Beware of CAIR". The signatories include: Reps. Sue Myrick (R-NC), Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), John Shadegg (R-AZ), and Paul Broun (R-GA). Rep. Myrick is the author of the Wake Up America Agenda aimed at countering Militant Islamic infiltration of American institutions.

Why the warning message from these concerned Members of Congress about the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR)? Because CAIR is about to storm Capitol Hill on February 6th in an intense lobbying blitz to combat its designation as an unindicted co-conspirator in the successful Dallas federal court retrial and conviction of The Holy Land Foundation caught funneling millions in charitable contributions to the Palestinian terrorist group, Hamas. These House Members of the anti-Terror caucus want to get the message out to their colleagues and constituents that meeting with CAIR, given recent actions by the FBI distancing the agency staff, both national and regional from the Muslim Brotherhood Front, would be tantamount to sanctioning CAIR's terrorist commitments to Hamas. Myrick, Wolf Smack AIG's New Shariah Financing

Sharia
Financial giant AIG's decision to offer a shariah-compliant insurance program is drawing heat in court and on Capitol Hill. AIG is operating today with help from a $40 billion taxpayer bailout.

According to the Insurance Journal, an AIG subsidiary's shariah-compliant homeowner's insurance plan is the first of "a series of Shari'ah-compliant (Takaful) product offerings in the U.S." Companies involved in entertainment, alcohol and pork would not be eligible for investment from program funds.

In a letter dated Thursday to AIG board chairman Edward Liddy, U.S. Reps. Sue Myrick (R-NC) and Frank Wolf (R-VA) note that, for all its seeming appeal, shariah financing is used by terrorist groups from Al Qaida to Hamas to route money because it is difficult to track its flow. Calling the American people "de facto stockholders in your company," the two members of Congress bluntly warned AIG to be careful if it should continue its Shariah plan. Read more ...

Sue Myrick's "Wake Up America" Agenda Progress Report July/August 2008

Wake Up

US Military Chaplain Program

Actions:

• On June 4, 2008, Rep. Myrick sent a letter to Department of Defense Secretary Robert Gates inquiring if the Department of Defense has reexamined its chaplain approval process for the military since the arrest and conviction of Abdurahman Alamoudi.

• On June 25, 2008, the Department of Defense (DoD) replied to Rep. Myrick with a letter and packet containing the DoD Inspector General’s (IG) evaluation report on the DoD Chaplain Program, which was finished in November of 2004. The packet also included the DoD guidelines for the appointment of chaplains for the military service.

The DoD IG report had five observations and suggestions to strengthen the DoD Chaplain Program. However, the concern is that Observation 3 was not adopted:
Observation 3 suggested DoD establish nonreligious criteria that would allow DoD to withdraw or remove a religious organization or its agent from participating in the DoD chaplain program. Such examples of non-religious criteria suggested were advocating the violent overthrow of the US Government, listed on a watch list of terrorist organizations, or conviction of a religious organization or its principal leaders in connection with terrorism. Observation 3 also included suggestions to use the FBI or other agencies to help screen religious organizations and their agents. The DoD rejected this observation because they said that it was “legally problematic” and the DoD was focused on individual merit of the prospective Chaplin, while the IRS “should remain the focal point for institutional merit” (IRC- 501 (c) (3) criteria). NOTE: DoD has adopted part of this observation, which includes: removal and rejection of chaplains and religious organizations that are under indictment or have been convicted of a terrorist related offense, or if the religious organization appears on the State Department list of Foreign Terror Organizations. Has CAIR Violated Its Non-Profit Tax Status?

CAIR
By Joe Kaufman

CAIR or the Council on American-Islamic Relations was founded, in June of 1994, as part of a Hamas-related quad of groups known as the Palestine Committee. Since then, CAIR has lost a number of its representatives due to terrorist activity, and it has been named by the U.S. government as a co-conspirator for a Hamas financing trial. Yet, of the four groups in the committee, CAIR is the only one that still remains in existence, leading to the question: If terrorism won't bring down CAIR, what will? The answer may very well be in its status as an American organization – its non-profit tax status.

United States Representative and co-founder of the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus, Sue Myrick, is one of a growing number of lawmakers to speak out against CAIR. As reported in World Net Daily, in December 2007, she stated, "Groups like CAIR have a proven record of senior officials being indicted and either imprisoned or deported from the United States."

Recently, Representative Myrick released a personal ten-point agenda, entitled 'Wake Up America,' put out, according to her office, "to alert and educate Americans to terrorist threats here at home posed by radical Islamic extremists." Point number four in the agenda states, "Will call for the Internal Revenue Service to investigate the Council on American-Islamic Relations' (CAIR) 501(c)(3) non-profit status which restricts 'lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.'" Myrick Urges President to Press Saudi Reform

A leading Republican congresswoman is urging President Bush to use his scheduled visit with Saudi Arabia's king on Friday to lobby for reform in Saudi textbooks.

U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick, R-NC, wrote to President Bush May 5 expressing concern that Saudi reforms may be focused internally and not on alleviating the threat radicalized Saudi citizens pose internationally.

"While Saudi Arabia is our ally in the Global War on Terrorism, the textbooks used to educate their children, as well as some of our children who attend schools receiving Wahhabi-funds, are spread a dangerous ideology that attacked us on 9/11 and continues to threaten the United States and its allies around the world," Myrick wrote.

It is not clear whether the President will act on Myrick's request or whether the Saudis would listen. His trip to Saudi Arabia reportedly is focused on marking the 75th anniversary of formal relations between the two countries. President Bush also is expected to press King Abdullah to increase oil production. A similar request in January was ignored.

Few would argue with the need to decrease oil prices. But Myrick's letter was meant to remind President Bush there are other issues with the Saudis that require discussion. Read more ...

Myrick's Counterjihad Plan

Sue Myrick
By Robert Spencer

In mid-April Representative Sue Myrick (R-NC) unveiled a ten-point plan for fighting against jihadist activity in the United States. One would think that Muslims who profess to oppose today's global jihad would welcome such an initiative, but one Muslim leader from Myrick's district, Jibril Hough of the Islamic Center of Charlotte, is not happy. On Monday he charged that "Myrick's latest attempt at fighting terrorism is nothing more than a fear campaign. It is nothing more than a new McCarthyism, or Myrickism. As Muslims, we have become expendable as politicians like Myrick seek political gain."

Myrick responded by inviting the Islamic Center of Charlotte to offer a point-by-point rebuttal to her proposals. And indeed, some specifics would be welcome. What could Jibril Hough really say in opposition to the particulars of Myrick's plan? It's worth going through her proposals to see what he could possibly find objectionable.

First, Myrick proposes to "investigate all military chaplains endorsed by Abdurahman Alamoudi, who was imprisoned for funding a terrorist organization." And her second proposal is to "investigate all prison chaplains endorsed by Alamoudi." Read more ...

Dear Congresswoman Myrick,

As an American who is concerned with the issue of terrorism, I applaud your efforts to prevent radical Islam from infiltrating American society. I wholeheartedly support your "Wake Up America" plan, as well as other initiatives of the Anti-Terrorism Caucus. You bring honor to the title of United States Representative.

Groups in America such as CAIR and MAS and groups overseas like Hamas and Al-Qaeda need to be shut down for their support and/or perpetration of terrorism. We hope that people recognize this threat to our society, and as well, recognize what you are doing to stop it.

Sincerely,
