Sob Stories for Terrorists

When someone admits to committing a crime, the emotional angst is shared by loved ones of the victim and accused alike. Drunk drivers have families, too, after all. So do bank robbers. But you won't see many newspaper stories devoted to their torment.

It is entirely different when it comes to those accused of terror-related crimes.

Take Ahmed Mohamed, a University of South Florida graduate student from Egypt who faces sentencing in a Tampa federal court Thursday. In June, Mohamed pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists.

In his plea agreement, Mohamed admits producing a video demonstrating how a remote controlled toy can be converted into a detonator for explosives. He did this to help those trying to kill American troops in Iraq, saying this technique was better than a suicide bombing because it allowed the attacker to save himself for "the real battles" to come. USF Promotes Sharia

Tampa, Florida-Slowly word is getting out to USF's estimated large Muslim student population. They no longer have to look for a place to pray on campus because students now have a private place to worship.

Members of USF's Muslim Student Association are introduced to the school's Serenity Room in the new Marshall Student Center.

Twenty-one year old Narjis Zaidi says the small room on the north side of the Marshall Center's third floor brings the peace and quiet she looks for. "During certain times of day the beams of the sun they reflect into the room in a very soothing and relaxing way. I've come here to pray and to relax or take a breather for a few minutes," says Narjis.

There's also a wash room for Muslims to cleanse their feet, hands, arms and face before prayer. Until now they'd wash their feet in the school's bathroom sinks they'd pray where possible on campus 5 times a day.

School officials say there are students from 36 religious denominations on campus and many asked for this space.

"It sends the message this is the students building they were involved in designing it and they asked for it," says Joe Synovec, Director of the Marshall Student Center. "Because they are funding this it's not paid with tax dollars we tried to accommodate as much of the requests students gave us, this was answering their prayers." Synovec says students are paying for the 65-million dollar student center using student fees not tax dollars. The Serenity Room is designed after one at the University of North Carolina.

When she first started attending USF as a freshman Narjis says she felt out of place but the new worship center helps her fit in, "I'm an American first. I feel recognized as an individual that it's OK to be a Muslim nothing to be ashamed of that you have to feel really bad about. It gives me an opportunity to come practice my religion in a safe and convenient manner and along the way it gives me so much pride being a student at USF."

School officials say the Serenity Room is there for students of all denominations and the school's Muslim students encourages others to use it. "I want to welcome all faiths to come here and pray with us that would be wonderful," says 23 year old third year medical student Muhammad Hassaan Iman.

Narjis sees the Serenity Room as a way for all students to tear down any religious prejudices, "I think the more time we spend with each other the more you realize how much you have in common."

Tampa's Terror for Kids

Sami Al-Arian has been in prison, away from his digs in the Tampa, Florida suburb of Temple Terrace, for over five years, yet one of the structures that he left behind continues to propagate the same fanatical ideology that led to his punishment. Al-Arian’s mosque, the Islamic Community of Tampa (ICT), has been proudly advertising hatred and violence meant for the eyes of children. The mosque’s connection to an area youth academy should have all Americans concerned.

When Al-Arian arrived at the University of South Florida (USF) in 1986, his goals were a lot broader than just to provide a decent education to aspiring college students. From then till the time of his imprisonment, Al-Arian worked tirelessly to build a vast network of terror, whose goal was the destruction of Israel.

Prior to his arrival, Al-Arian had helped to set up the Illinois-based Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), what soon would become known as the American propaganda wing of Hamas. When he came to Florida, it was as an operative for Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a group he helped to found in Egypt in 1979. MAS Jihadi Olympics '08

This weekend, the University of South Florida (USF) and the town of Temple Terrace, a suburb of Tampa Bay, Florida, will once again be hosting the Muslim American Society's Olympics. Once again, the school known as Jihad U and the local area will be associating themselves with terrorism and radical Islam.

On March 8th through the 9th, the Tampa chapter of the Muslim American Society (MAS-Tampa) will be holding its 6th Annual Olympics, now referred to as MYathlon ("MY" meaning MAS Youth). The venues for the event are remaining the same as last year, when the boys used the sports facilities at USF, and the girls used those at the Temple Terrace Recreation Complex, which is owned by the city. Given the history of the Muslim American Society, and given the local chapter’s past, one can’t help but think how reckless and irresponsible it is for the venues to allow this event to take place.

MAS was established in 1992, incorporated in '93. It was created by leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), a global Islamist political/religious movement that is the forebearer of such terror groups as Al-Qaeda and Hamas. According to the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of Virginia, as stated in a December 2007 federal court brief, "MAS was founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America." USF Muslim students trying to get bomb evidence thrown out, say cop was racist

Naive Kids Update: it seems that the arresting officer in South Carolina, who found pipe bomb materials in the trunk of the car being driven by Ahmed Mohamed and Youseff Megahed, said, "Damn terrorist. I think they're part of the **** Taliban....Maybe they're gonna practice the suicide bombing here."

He also evidently noted their race as "Islamic," which should endear him to the politically correct crowd that continues to insist that opposition to the global jihad constitutes racism, but in this case it has gotten him in hot water, because -- as the newscaster says, in probably the first time this has been acknowledged in the mainstream media -- "of course we all know that's not a race, that's a religion."
