Islamofascism (or Islamism) is the main threat facing modern civilization and ignorance about this threat is astounding. We hope that this event becomes regular and reaches every campus.
A great many Westerners do not see the clear distinction between Islam and Islamism (Islamofascism). They need to understand that the difference between Islam and Islamism (Islamofascism) is the same as the difference between Christianity and Christian Identity Movement (White Supremacy Movement).
Update: Islamofascist MSA objects to Islamofascism Awareness Week
Hat Tip: Israpundit
Update: Islamofascists admit that one of the purposes for 'Islamofascism Awareness Week' is to make sure that 'Radical Muslims need to be distinguished from Moderate Muslims.'

I hope that you realize that the people you are congratulating up there don't care about that distinction either.
(Remember it was Ann Coulter who said of Muslims that "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."... and the other names on your list have said far worse.)
Rather these people-
1) Simply demagogue this issue as way of egomaniacal self-promotion for their pet cause... their own bruised egos.
2) Use this issue as a context for starting more preemptive military actions which they support because... well, who the knows at this point.
It's been dirty American liberals like me have been trying to make clear the very distinctions you point out above for years now. The ones who truly see no distinctions? The right-wing demagogues who created this 'awareness' week.
This blog post I quoted in my piece points this out... that the same people you're congratulating are the ones who saw/see no difference between Sunni and Shia, no difference between Hussein and bin Laden, and lump the entire Middle East into one amorphous 'them' to rail against.
If you are serious about this cause, I'd find some new (sane) allies and quickly.
Peace be with you.
"I hope that you realize that the people you are congratulating up there don't care about that distinction either."
That statement "I hope that you realize that the people you are congratulating up there don't care about that distinction either."
That statement must be based on your extensive experience, but our research shows the opposite.
"Remember it was Ann Coulter who said of Muslims that "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.""
Yes, we do. We also remember that she wrote it on September 12, 2001. While Ann Coulter is not the best friend of Islam, euphemistically speaking, she is a valuable ally in the war with Islamofascists.
"It's been dirty American liberals like me have been trying to make clear the very distinctions you point out above for years now."
This is great. However, it is an unfortunate fact that the Islamofascism Awareness Week is hosted by college Republicans, not college Democrats.
"people you're congratulating are the ones who saw/see no difference between Sunni and Shia"
Really? We thought that the most famous person who doesn't understand the difference between Sunni and Shia is Silvestre Reyes, the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and a Democrat.
From posts and comment in the blogosphere, it is pretty clear that the Left is a lot less educated on the subject than the Right. There are plenty of insane people on both sides of the political spectrum, however, we consider the organizers of the IAW quite sane and worthy of our praise and support.
blueduck is only capable of uninformed posting, driving apart any potential progress against radical Islam. He/she is only interested in bashing the 'right' and cares not one iota about what MAS stands for either.
Also knows nothing of the publically written and stated positions of most of those organizers and speakers he/she bashed.
Your ignorance is outstanding and if there were medals for that, you should get one.
MAS,
Thanks for the link at the "Right Wing" site I post on - Classical Values.
I did a post on you Muslims Against Sharia. It is short and mostly quotes you. I hope it gets you some attention. It was also cross posted at Power and Control. Another winger site.
The duck is full of it. If you will pardon the expression.

I'd be interested to know where the term Islamofacism or Islamism came from. I hadn't heard it before George W. Bush last year.
The origins of "Islamofascism"
Thanks for posting on our blog. While I appreciate your organizations position on reformation and taking a stand against Islamic extremism, aligning yourself with political pundits as those you listed in my eyes does not add much credibility to your cause. Most of them are not only political hacks that have made money disseminating opinions that lack any true depth of reason, but they are also apart of the fringe and reactionary element of the American right wing. They certainly do not deserve the accolades you give them and you should attempt to find true idealists and creative thinkers at a grassroots level to ally with, instead of warmongering chicken hawk cheerleaders. To turn your backs on these people would not in anyway undermine your message on the fascist element of your religion.
Dear Dalriada,
In most cases we do not align ourselves with anyone, we merely praise or condemn their actions. If you looked at our blog, you'd see that we condemned and praised Mahmood Abbas, Democrats and Republicans based on their actions, not on who they are. Understandably, we lost all credibility with some on the right as well as on the left.
On occasion, we do align ourselves with persons/organizations that consistently express view regarding Islamic fundamentalism that are similar to ours. We couldn't care less whether they are right-wing or left-wing. We do not have time to worry about how credible some people perceive us, especially people on the fringes of political spectrum. Our target audience is moderate Muslims like us, who are sick and tired of being silent and we have plenty of credibility with them.
Sorry, I didn't see your ultra quick response and posted another comment. I'm responding to your initial reply. I don't see how praising a publicity stunt by David Horowitz who's main goal in life is to martyr himself to liberal intelligentsia in anyway helps your arguments. If I actually thought these people had pure motives other than there contempt for the other side then I would agree.
Removed post:
"P.S. If you counter my contention that the people you ally yourself are political hacks with the argument that the democrats and liberal pundits are worse, then I will find your opinions on any matter highly suspect with ulterior motives. You just make yourself look stupid doing that. I will not defend any professional liberals or democrats on the matter so don't waste time on intelligent discourse using such a counter argument."
Would we make ourselves look stupid if we call someone who thinks that the Left is always right and the Right is always wrong a degenerate ideologue? How are you any better that holier-than-thou morons who happened to be on the Right?
What you call a "publicity stunt", we consider a very useful educational tool. Whatever motives Mr. Horowitz had for starting the Islamofascism Awareness Week are of little consequence; we are interested in the results. You should be ashamed that your only criteria for judgment of this action is the motive; not the result. We, on the other hand, are not restricted by ideological shackles and judge the event for what it is, not by whom it was set up.
"If I actually thought these people had pure motives other than there contempt for the other side then I would agree."
Are you familiar with the term "pathological projection"? If not, you might want to look it up.
MAS,
As I have stated above I'm more right than left.
Every time I reach out to the left on ideas where co-operation should be an advantage (I'm anti-drug prohibition for instance - e-mal me and I'll explain why - it is all about brain chemistry) I get the same kind of reaction.
Christopher Hitchens should be of no interest to Horowitz given the way dalriada thinks. Yet Hitchens has been featured on Horowitz's site.
I don't understand the inability of the left to make alliances to accomplish its goals. Yet it is a fact.
Sad. Very sad.
I still owe you a first post. I haven't forgotten.
And part of the consequences of aligning yourself with these folks is that you demean your own argumentation. Whereas had I seen your site before I knew you supported something so "gimmicky" as Islamofacism week I would be prone to take your blog more seriously, as I agree with much of your points, even if I am in fact not your target demographic. I think by submitting to political hackery you waste energy and credibility in supporting things that might actually make a difference.
And yes I am familiar with the term "pathological projection," as a matter of fact David Horowitz has made his whole career on it, as I touched on the point of his bizarre martyrdom fetish, which is I think correlates. But since you want to get personal, which was unnecessary, but whatever I'm game, you would be justified in calling that on me if I had gone on some hyperbolic rant about what a bunch of traitors they are etc. When in fact if you actually read what I wrote I'm merely saying the whole thing was a farce and a charade with nothing but business as usual right wing politics to point out what a bunch of pinheads and pussies liberals are instead of the goals you seem to espouse. Hence your completely demeaning the message you claim to achieve.
And remember, you're the one that went out the way to post your "propaganda" (ho ho) on my blog www.makeshiftpropaganda.com.
Sure, its merely my opinion, but I think your far better off quoting Ghandi.
I just saw that you put up my deleted comment. I'll admit it wasn't very cogent or coherent hence one reason I deleted it. What I meant to say is that I do in fact hate the left as much as the right on the subject, although often times for different reasons. In other words I'm not a democrat and I don't find them very useful at all. Just to make that clear. The reason I posted that in the first place was because I saw you make an anti-democrat argument against blueduck above, and since I'm not pro-democrat it would be a waste of time. I'm not playing right and left games even though each side has their distinct and different flaws.
Dalriada,
"And part of the consequences of aligning yourself with these folks is that you demean your own argumentation."
Our goal is to fight assholes who think that they are better than others because of their religion. I don't see much difference between them and the assholes who think they are better than others because of their politics. However, if you do not consider yourself superior because of your politics, this does not apply to you.
There is no overcoming some people's prejudice.
I started out as a Democrat - moved into Trotskyism - then Libertarianism - and now I'm a sortta Republican.
I know the arguments of all sides. So I'm willing to work with anyone. Almost.
The parochial attitude of much of the left is self limiting. They will be marginalized in time.
The best thing IMO is to ignore the prejudiced. They come in all flavors.
MAS 7:12,
Excellent. Straight talk.
Dalriada,
"The reason I posted that in the first place was because I saw you make an anti-democrat argument against blueduck above"
Which argument are you referring to as "anti-democrat"?
You keep up the fight, as this is a tough but noble cause.

No just an asshole, but a deranged asshole with superiority complex :)
Since when did the "Christian Identity Movement" crash planes into buildings and go on a worldwide campaign of blowing up things and people? Islam is not the 'religion of peace'.
“Moderate muslim” is an oxymoron.
Come out enmasse. Show the world the so-called “moderate muslims”. I want to see the phantom majority of those who ‘repudiate the mere notion of Islamic supremacy’. I mean by the millions; not a scant letter, post, or rare website. Take to the streets. Show up at the college campuses where Islamofascism has become part of the curriculum. Confront CAIR. Join the GWOT by taking up arms against the al Qaeda and Taliban. And while you’re at it, spread reform across the Middle East, Northern Africa, Indonesia, and Asia. Tell them they can bow to Mecca all fuckin’ day if they wish. Just do it peacefully and quit with the terrorism just because the rest of us don’t follow suit.
The proponents of your "religion" want to turn the planet into a Caliphate.
In the meantime, we'll eradicate the bastards so that doesn't happen.

“Since when did the "Christian Identity Movement" crash planes into buildings and go on a worldwide campaign of blowing up things and people?”
What are you, an idiot? Nazi atrocities of the 1940s weren’t bad enough? Or don’t you understand that modern white supremacists movement that includes Christian Identity Movement are practically identical to the Nazis of the 1940s? The reason Neonazis do not blow up thing and people on a scale that Islamonazi do is because that the Neonazi movement is not fueled by billions of petro-dollars and because majority of Christians despise those scumbags.
“Come out enmasse. Show the world the so-called “moderate muslims”
It would be much easier if the government and the media stopped supporting radical Muslims and ignoring moderate Muslims.
“I want to see the phantom majority of those who ‘repudiate the mere notion of Islamic supremacy’.”
We never claimed that majority of Muslims are moderate.
“Show up at the college campuses where Islamofascism has become part of the curriculum.”
“Enlightened” media doesn’t want to hear what we have to say. Why do you think brainwashed college kids what be interested. Nonie Darwish spoke at Berkeley and was labeled as anti-Muslim and anti-Arab.
“Confront CAIR”
Read our blog.
“spread reform across the Middle East, Northern Africa, Indonesia, and Asia.”
As I mentioned before, Islamists have billions of petro-dollars (provided by the West) to spread their teachings. What do we have to spread the reform?
Cheryl, we salute your service, but it does not excuse your ignorance.
Muslims Against Sharia said... (at SlantRight):
Muslims Against Sharia congratulate David Horowitz FREEDOM CENTER and Mike Adams, Tammy Bruce, Phyllis Chesler, Ann Coulter, Nonie Darwish, Greg Davis, Stephen Gale, David Horowitz, Joe Kaufman, Michael Ledeen, Michael Medved, Alan Nathan, Cyrus Nowrasteh, Daphne Patai, Daniel Pipes, Dennis Prager, Luana Saghieh, Rick Santorum, Jonathan Schanzer, Christina Sommers, Robert Spencer, Brian Sussman, Ed Turzanski, Ibn Warraq and other speakers on the success of the Islamofascism Awareness Week.

The SlantRight Reply:
I am excited to read that there are Muslims against Sharia Law.
I do have concerns about moderate Muslims. I read all the time about nations like Egypt and other Middle Eastern nations that utilize Islamic rule of law that I assume is derived from Sharia Law.
Just recently a Christian Egyptian (Coptic Christian) was thrown in jail for listing her faith on a Marriage certificate as a Christian. That earned her a 3 year sentence.
Her crime: Her father converted briefly from Christianity to Islam, then back from Islam to Christianity. Apparently freedom of religion is illegal in Egypt. The Christian woman’s problem was that she was a minor when daddy experienced his crisis of faith.
Apparently it is the law once a male becomes a Muslim; then all his children join the club too. Thus the poor young lady expecting marriage nuptials was thrown in jail for even thinking about marrying a Christian male.
If that is moderate Islam, then I have extreme concerns. These people were not Islamists.
I realize that Saudi Arabia is hardly a moderate Muslim nation; however a Muslim lady who was a victim of gang rape is to receive 200 lashes. SHE WAS THE VICTIM!
And you will have to explain to me about honor killing, this is apparently even enforced extra-legally in Western nations.
So there are MUSLIMS AGAINST SHARIA LAW, make your voice known. Stand up to American organizations like CAIR that clandestinely support Hamas and have an agenda to America a Muslim nation in which Sharia Law is the rule of law instead of the U.S. Constitution.
"I do have concerns about moderate Muslims."
Egypt is NOT a moderate Muslim country.
