Amid a firestorm of contention, several hundred people heard Geert Wilders, a controversial Dutch parliamentarian, speak last night at Temple University.
During his approximately 30-minute speech, Wilders called the Quran "an evil book" and said that the United States was facing Islamization.
A question-and-answer session was cut short, and Wilders was escorted out of the lecture hall after some students began shouting insults at him.
Before the speech, held in Anderson Hall, more than 50 protesters had denounced the appearance of Wilders at the school.
Members of All Sides, an organization that seeks to promote peace between Israel and Palestinians, held pink pom-poms and shouted, "Hey Hey, HO, HO, this racist bull----'s got to go."
Standing next to them with signs decrying Wilders' views were members of the Student Senate, Democratic Socialists and the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance.
"Wilders speaks out about free speech while at the same time banning the Quran," said Megan Chialastri, vice president of All Sides.
"Banned books are not free speech and there is no way around that," Chialastri said.
"This is hate speech at its core," said Monira Gamal-Eldin, president of the Muslim Students Association.
Inside the auditorium, after going through rigorous security checks, students assembled to hear the Dutch politician speak.
Brittany Walsh, president of the student group Purpose, which had invited Wilders, introduced his 17-minute short film, Fitna - Arabic for disagreement and division among people - in which passages from the Quran are juxtaposed with newspaper clippings and video showing or describing violent acts by Muslims.
Wilders, 46, emerged after the film, flanked by a security detail which he said made him feel as if he was not free but which has been necessary because of numerous threats on his life.
Before he was escorted out, the last student allowed to address Wilders said: "Clearly fascism wasn't defeated, because if it was, a genocide-loving racist clown like you still wouldn't have anything to say."
As the audience filed out of the auditorium, two Temple students offered their reactions to Wilders' visit.
"I'm proud," said Jonas Skovdal. "I think it's a big win for humanity that people stood up to him in there."
"It was a good experience," said Brian Wisnieski. "What he said was definitely negative, but it was a good experience that he came."
The event was funded by the California-based David Horowitz Freedom Center, a foundation that promotes conservative scholarship.
Radical Muslims are using our court system to try to silence those who expose their terrorist connections. They've done it in Europe and Canada - and now they're trying it here in America.
In the case of investigative reporter Joe Kaufman, they're not giving up - even though their case is completely bogus. After two years of defending Joe, we are now facing yet another challenge. I'm writing to you as a member of the Freedom Center to ask you to help pay for Joe's defense.
Seven Muslim groups claim that Joe is a threat. They convinced a court that Joe "intends to threaten to take unlawful action...cause bodily injury...or threaten Plaintiffs or their members with immediate bodily injury." On those grounds the court imposed a restraining order on him. And they sued Joe for defamation to stop him from writing about Muslims in the future and to close down his websites.
Joe reports and writes for my website FrontPage Magazine and for his own websites. He has never threatened a Muslim in his life. But he has exposed facts they want to hide. The reason Joe Kaufman is being targeted by these Muslim groups is that he monitors web sites run by Muslim charitable organizations, and he has identified money trails leading from some of these groups to terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah.
We have been defending Joe from this lawsuit since 2007 - thanks to the financial support we've received from our members. And we thought we'd won when in June the Texas Court of Appeals finally threw out the lawsuit, ruling that the case had no merit to continue. But our victory celebration didn't last long. The Islamic groups involved have petitioned the Texas Supreme Court to review the case! Why do they keep this absurd case going? For one reason: If they can defeat Joe Kaufman in court, radical Muslims will know they can stop anyone from investigating and writing about any Muslim groups and individuals.
This is a case of national importance. Radical Muslims are watching it carefully. They have seemingly unlimited funds to keep fighting as long as they have a hope. We need to keep fighting back. We cannot let these groups succeed. This is why I am urgently asking you to help the Freedom Center pay for the legal bills incurred in Joe's defense and to cover this latest development. Joe Kaufman has no money to spend on his defense. He has made a career of investigative journalism focusing on terrorism - something the mainstream media doesn't want to touch with a ten-foot pole, and therefore not a high-paying profession. He needs our help.
A victory by the Islamist groups would be the first step in silencing all of us. This is a free speech issue and nothing more: Joe has not lied about, threatened, or touched any of the Muslims who are suing him, or any other Muslims for that matter. He simply reported the truth, and for that these groups are doing their best to silence him - and to intimidate the rest of us. The lawsuit against Joe Kaufman is part of a strategy by these radical Muslim groups to bully us into silence. That's why we cannot let them win.
P.S. Our lawyers believe we have a strong case, but the outcome of this case is by no means predictable. Too many judges have shown themselves to care more about not offending Muslims than about free speech. We must raise the money to fight this case to the end! Please help us fight back.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center has produced a new, five-minute flash video, Hamas: The Terror Elite. The video takes the viewer inside this fearsome terror organization, demonstrating how Hamas made murder by suicide bombings its signature weapon during the 1990s, before graduating to Qassam rockets during the three years of relentless attacks on Israel that precipitated the recent Gaza War. The video also reveals how the terror organization, heavily funded by patrons Iran and Syria, grew out of the violent Islamist movement calling itself the Muslim Brotherhood, which is also the godfather of Hamas’s Sunni jihadist counterparts in al-Qaeda.
As the video shows, Hamas is also unlike other terrorist organizations. In contrast to Yasir Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization, whose members it has hunted down since coming to power in Gaza, Hamas does not even pretend to value nationhood for Palestinians. Courageous members of the Young America's Foundation chapter at Penn State sponsored my talk there tonight. Courageous? Certainly. Not only do they have to deal with ostracism, ridicule, and abuse on a more or less regular basis, but tonight one of the attendees at my talk told the YAF student organizer that he better be careful to "walk a narrow line."
I know a threat when I hear one. The University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee is one of the campuses which is hosting Stop the Jihad On Campus week. A full-page ad was taken out in the UWMPost by the David Horowitz Freedom Center to advertise the event. On the opposite page of the ad, there was a full page ad taken out by the Muslim Students Association. Interestingly enough, the UWM Post provided this ad-space to the MSA free of charge. Above the DHFC ad, it stated "PAID ADVERTISEMENT". Above MSA's ad, it read "ADVERTISEMENT". More interesting still is the fact that the MSA ad mirrors the DHFC ad, both physically in the paper and in its design. This means, as our student sources at UWM have confirmed, that the editors/editor at the UWMPost showed the ad to the MSA prior to it being placed in print -- a blatant ethical violation.
Students and faculty at 79 college campuses are hearing a clarion call to “Stop the Jihad on Campus,” thanks to the third annual Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, sponsored by this website’s sister organization, the Terrorism Awareness Project. This is an extraordinary turnout three weeks before a national election when most student activists are focused on the presidential campaigns.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center launched this national event three years ago to draw attention to the global threat posed by radical Islamic extremism, the ideology fueling worldwide jihad. To accomplish this we are distributing 10,000 copies of the film Obsession and holding a "Stop the Jihad Hour" for a simultaneous showing of the film on all 79 campuses. The Muslim Students Association of the U.S. and Canada (MSA) and campus groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine play important roles in supporting the jihadist war against America, Israel, and the West. The Islamo Fascism Awareness Week II got under way yesterday at universities across the nation in what amounted to a two front offensive against the unholy alliance between radical and pro-jihad groups. By focusing on a Declaration Against Genocide, IFA Week speakers encouraged students to repudiate the genocidal threats against America and Israel issued by terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as their rogue-state sponsors in Iran. At the same time, they encouraged campus groups to condemn Islamic terror and to spotlight those groups -- particularly the Muslim Student Association, a group with chapters on more than 600 campuses nationwide – which have pointedly refused to do so.
Robert Spencer, one of the IFAW Week's key speakers, noted that the campaign provides a perspective seldom-heard in today's academic world: "Islamo Fascism Awareness Week gives college students an opportunity to hear an alternate view to the leftist propaganda that passes for academic discourse on all too many campuses these days. With the Middle East Studies Association appearing completely uninterested in allowing for viewpoints that go against the dominant mainstream, Islamo Fascism Awareness Week provides a small bit of equal time. The David Horowitz Freedom Center announced that it will distribute a Declaration Against Genocide and ask individuals and groups, particularly those on American college campuses, to sign it. The Declaration notes that the Sudanese and other Africans have been victims of a slow motion genocide, and that Islamo fascists in the Middle East are preparing a new genocide against the Jews and can be found here.
In describing the objectives of this new initiative, David Horowitz, President of the Freedom Center, said: "We are asking all campus groups to repudiate the genocidal passage in the Islamic Hadith which reads: "The prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: 'The time [of judgment] will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews and kill them; until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!'"
Horowitz continued: "We are also asking all campus groups, including the Muslim Students Association, to condemn the Hamas Charter which says: 'Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.' Signers of the Declaration will also be asked to repudiate the Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who has said 'The accomplishment of a world without America and Israel is both possible and feasible.' And Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah, who called the Jews 'a cancer which is liable to spread again at any moment,' and has said, "If the Jews 'all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.' These are hateful doctrines that threaten the lives not only of Jews, but of all Americans."
In addition to condemning the genocidal agenda of these leaders and organizations, the Declaration calls on campus groups to affirm "the freedom of the individual conscience and the right to change religions or have no religion at all; the equal dignity of men and women; and the right of all people to live free from violence, intimidation and coercion."
"Although a Declaration Against Genocide should be seen as a document with universal appeal," Horowitz notes, "a coalition of groups with ties to the Islamo-fascist jihad are bound to protest this effort. Our goal is to test universities' claims that they support religious and ethnic tolerance, and to challenge the campus left, which consistently overlooks statements by Islamic radicals which are nothing less than an invitation to mass murder."

• A Muslim man in Iran cut off his 7-year-old daughter's head because he suspected she had been raped by her uncle? • Many little Muslim girls have their genitals cut out – without anesthesia – in order to destroy their sexuality and make them “pure”? • Daughter and wife beating are routine in the Muslim world. Over 90 percent of Pakistani wives, for instance, have been struck, beaten, or abused sexually – for offenses like cooking an unsatisfactory meal, or for failing to give birth to a male child? • In Iran the legal age for marriage is nine years old, and in an Afghan refugee camp virtually all the girls over second grade were married? • Women who are raped in Muslim countries often end up being punished while the rapist gets off free? • All a man has to do to divorce his wife is say, “I divorce you” three times – and then she is a single woman without support and without her children, who are usually taken by the father?6
October 22-26 was designated "Islamofascism Awareness Week" in a series of events held at college campuses around the United States. The effort was organized by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Predictably, the program elicited a bad reaction from Islamists. The Saudi daily Shams announced on September 4 that the Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh--known to moderate Muslims as the "terrorist factory"--had begun an Internet offensive against Horowitz, mentioned by name as the organizer of the campus awareness campaign. It was one of many recent signs that the Saudis are attentive to Western criticism of their doctrine and regime.
Coincidentally, even as college students and visiting speakers were exploring the concept of "Islamofascism" in an academic setting, more than 1,000 American Muslims from the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard gathered in Washington on October 22 to demonstrate outside the Saudi embassy against Saudi Arabia's support for "Wahhabi fascism." Called by a new coalition, Al-Baqee.org, the protest demanded that the Saudis stop exporting Wahhabism, the ultrafundamentalist state religion in the Saudi kingdom, and thus end support for global terror.
Al-Baqee.org is named for Jannat al-Baqi, a cemetery in Medina that housed the graves of the Prophet Muhammad's relatives and companions, and which was leveled by the Wahhabis in 1925. The Wahhabis justified this vandalism with their claim that religious honors to any human being, living or dead, even Muhammad himself, detract from worship of the one God. Al-Baqee.org was established by Iraqi-American and other Shia Muslims affiliated with moderate Iraqi ayatollah Ali Sistani.
Calling al-Sistani a moderate might be a stretch considering his statement about "najis." "The following ten things are essentially najis (unclean): Urine, Feces, Semen, Dead body, Blood, Dog, Pig, Kafir, Alcoholic liquors, The sweat of an animal who persistently eats najasat." The media have been abuzz in recent weeks condemning the Islamofascism Awareness Week, held last week in College and University campuses across America. The event was organized by former communist turned conservative activist, David Horowitz, and his Freedom Centre.
This event was marked to create awareness about the danger of Islamic extremism and terrorism, the oppression of women (polygamy, honour-killings, & genital mutilations) and persecution of minorities in Islamic countries, and the fanatical Jew-hatred among Muslims etc.
Horowitz’s Freedom Centre also takes aim at the American left, who have made the educational institutions as exclusive forts of their propaganda, impregnable to contrary views. He also accuses the left of forming an unassailable alliance with the dangerous Islamists, who will make every effort to destroy the very ideals ― secularism, democracy, liberalism, human rights, and rights of homosexuals etc. ― which they holds dear.
Looking at what is happening in Islamic countries; Horowitz is not at all wrong about his apprehensions of what would transpire when Muslims become dominant in western countries, which they will at least in Europe by 2050. Horowitz rightly regrets that the left is staunchly against his campaign, when they should be on his site. I think it is the left who should take the lead in this awareness campaign.
The major focus of criticism of Horowitz’s Islamofascism Week is that the term, Islamofascism, tends to lump all Muslims together as fascists or terrorists. Fox News Channel anchor Alan Colmes, told Horowitz that "The words, the phrase ‘Islamo-fascism' is hate speech. It equates an entire religion with fascism.” Although became popular after President Bush once uttered it, the term "Islamo-fascism" was coined by secular Muslims to describe the murderous ideology and activities of the Islamic radicals in the bloody civil war-stricken Algeria.
Horowitz, however, has been at pains trying to explain that he does not put all Muslims in the same balance. In stead, his message is targeted at a segment of Muslims, who use a fascistic and violent strain within Islam. He went on to explain in an interview that although not all Italians were fascists in the 1930-40s, yet Italian fascism was a widely accepted phrase. Italian fascism did not mean that all Italians were fascists. So, it is groundless that Islamofascism lumps all Muslims together as fascists. But neither of his detractors, the Muslims and the leftists, would ever listen.
The result turned out just as expected. The left on campuses ganged up with the Muslim Students Association ― founded, according to Journalist Joe Kaufman, by the militant Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood ― to disrupt the Islamofascism Week talks. They created disruption and chaos in most campuses making it impossible for Horowitz and his co-speakers express their views.
Quite correctly, Horowitz calls American university and colleges to be the impregnable forts of leftist propaganda. Amidst deafening shouting and jeers at his Emory lecture, a frustrated Horowitz said with good deal of justification that “This is exactly what the fascists did in Germany in the 1930s.” And ironically, organizations like the National Project to Defend Dissent & Critical Thinking in Academia joined hands in creating these fascist-style disruptions. Can Horowitz be faulted for condemning the left for forming an unholy alliance with the dangerous Islamists?
Let us now have a brief look at what Muslims have brought to the West. In November 2005, Muslim youths in France rioted and vandalized cars, homes and properties for weeks, leading to even death of an elderly man. Some 100,000 cars were vandalized or set on fire by French Muslim rioters and vandals in one year. Taking cues from their French brethren in action, Muslims in Belgium took it up on them to spread the Intifada in Brussels at the time.
Muslims in Netherlands engaged in similar Intifada by rioting and setting cars on fire for more than a week since October 14, protesting the death of a young Muslim, who was shot dead as he started stabbing two policewomen entering a police station in Amsterdam. The two policemen, critically wounded, narrowly escaped death.
At the same time, Turkish immigrants engaged in vandalism of Armenian properties and attacking Armenians in Brussels, protesting the U.S. initiative for recognizing the Turkish genocide of the Armenians. This was followed by another round of riots, attacking buses and trams and destroying cars and shops, in Brussels’s Turkish quarters over the rising tensions between Turkey and Kurdish rebels along Iraqi borders.
Such riots and vandalism are becoming increasingly common across Europe in areas with high density of Muslims. Muslims have been creating more and more ghettos ridden with violence and crimes, which have become no-go zones for non-Muslim Europeans, even for the police. If a non-Muslim girl happens to stray in those ghettos, there is a high possibility that she will come out raped.
The term, Islamofascism, is not acceptable. Fair enough! But how about a Stop Islamization of Europe rally, which one transnational European group, wanted to bring about in Brussels to commemorate 9/11 this year? The secular-liberal fabric of western societies ― from New Zealand to Australia to Canada to Europe ― are being aggressively Islamized by Muslim immigrants. To give a few examples: airports must have a mosque; canteens in jails must have separate quarters, cutlery and menu for Muslim inmates; school and university canteens must remove pork and even alcohol from their premises; and they must have separate public swimming pools or specific days of the week exclusively for them. A A poll in 2006 found some 40% British Muslims would prefer an Islamic Sharia law based governance to replace the secular-democracy, while another poll in 2004 found 61% Muslims want the Sharia court system in the U.K..
It was then very reasonable for those Europeans, seeking to protect the secular and liberal fabric of their society from invasion by often repressive and cruel Islamic values and cultures, to hold a Stop Islamization of Europe rally. But this is not acceptable to Muslims either. For them, this rally also lumps all Muslims together and stigmatize them. They were determined to prevent the rally with violence if needed. The leftist mayor of Brussels, heavily dependent on Muslim votes, took firm steps to prevent the rally, for the duel reasons of not upsetting his Muslim vote-bank and of the fear of violence by Muslims. Yet, he had no qualms about a militant Islamist group, who say the 9/11 was done by the Bush administration, to bring out a rally on 11th September to condemn the war on terrorism.
The mayor rightly feared the likely unleashing of violence by Muslims if the rally went ahead. The Danish chapter of the Stop Islamization of Europe brought out a small rally on 21st November in Copenhagen, a city having much fewer Muslims than Brussels with 25-30% Muslims. Anders Gravers, the organizer of the event, and his three associates, including two women, as they arrived for the rally, came under attack by Muslim thugs, armed with knifes and iron-rods, which left three associates hospitalized with bloodied head and face. Anders Gravers was probably saved by a bullet-proof vest he was wearing.
To these should be added the murder of Dutch filmmaker, Theo van Gogh, for making a film on the mistreatment of Muslim women in Islam, the death-warrants and widespread violent demonstrations over publishing Prophet Muhammad’s cartoons in a Danish paper in 2005, and the death-threats and large-scale vandalism over Salman Rushdie’s novel, The Satanic Verses (1989). There are numerous terrorist cells, directly or ideologically allied with the Al-Qaeda in western countries. Apart from the Madrid (March 2004) and London (July 2005) bombings, numerous terrorist plots often against civilian targets have been aborted in Europe, Australia, Canada and the U.S. The law enforcement agencies are watching 5000 Muslims for terrorist activities in Britain and 2000 in Australia ― a phenomenon which extends across all western countries.
The Little Mermaid statue at the entrance of Copenhagen harbour was found found draped in Islamic veil in May, while naked statues across Germany were found found veiled with Islamic garbs in September. These veiling incidents, which are becoming increasingly common across Europe, highlight how Muslims would change the western liberal societies to fit Islamic life-style and culture. When Muslims cannot tolerate lifeless statues in their natural state, how long will they tolerate the liberally (scantily) dressed real women walk on the streets of Europe?
What should one call these activities brought to the West exclusively by Muslim immigrants? Whatever name you give, these are all acts and signs of fascism with no doubt. Other immigrants, such as the Chinese or the Hindus, have not brought the same troubles. Muslims differ from them only in their religion. If any logical or sensible name is to be given to this brand of fascism, it got to be Islamofascism or Muslim fascism. Islamofascism associates it with a strain of radical thoughts within the ideology of Islam, while Muslim fascism obviously lumps all Muslims together. When Islamofascism is unacceptable, Muslim fascism is going to be even less acceptable to Muslims and their leftist allies.
You give it a name or not, there is no doubt that a brand of fascism, brought by Muslim immigrants, has been spreading across western nations with increasing intensity. While chatting about these issues with Mr. Jamal Hasan, a coeditor of Beyond Jihad – Critical Voices from Inside Islam, he told me: “Have you considered what would have transpired if Salman Rushdie’s novel or Prophet Muhammad’s cartoons were published after a few decades, when Muslims are projected to become the dominant population in Europe?” One agrees or not, this is one single issue, all westerners, the liberal-left in particular, should be most concerned about.

Islamofascism (or Islamism) is the main threat facing modern civilization and ignorance about this threat is astounding. We hope that this event becomes regular and reaches every campus.
A great many Westerners do not see the clear distinction between Islam and Islamism (Islamofascism). They need to understand that the difference between Islam and Islamism (Islamofascism) is the same as the difference between Christianity and Christian Identity Movement (White Supremacy Movement).
