CAIR-FLORIDA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR PARTICIPATES IN BROWARD SCHOOL BOARD DIVERSITY REPORT
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) On the morning of Tuesday, October 7, 2008, Americans Against Hate (AAH) Chairman Joe Kaufman, along with three other AAH members, spoke in front of the Broward County School Board, asking for the removal of Hamas supporter Jawhar Badran from the School Board’s Diversity Committee. On March 1, 2008, Badran had been videotaped making statements in support of Hamas, denying Hamas was a terrorist organization. As well, Badran is an admitted member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Hamas-related group.
During his speech, Kaufman stated that, if Badran would not be removed, Robert Parks should resign his seat on the School Board. Parks was the School Board member who appointed Badran to the Diversity Committee. Kaufman also stated that, if the rest of the School Board members remain silent on the issue, they themselves should be held accountable.
Following lunch recess, Roland Foulkes, the Chairman of the Diversity Committee, took the time during his Diversity Committee report to laud Hamas supporter Badran and CAIR and attack Kaufman and Americans Against Hate. The Executive Director of CAIR-Florida Altaf Ali also was allowed to speak as part of the Diversity Committee report, and he used the forum he was given to attack AAH, as well.
Kaufman has asked for equal time to address the charges made against him and AAH. Kaufman stated, “It is disturbing that the Broward County School Board would allow personal attacks against individuals and groups to occur in the guise of a School Board Diversity Committee report. It is also disturbing that the School Board would allow someone affiliated with CAIR, the brainchild of Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzook, to participate in the report.”
CAIR is currently named by the U.S. Justice Department as a co-conspirator for a federal trial dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas.
