The National Council of Resistance in Iran, an opposition group, reported that seven agencies now report to the new organization, stripping the MOIS of most of its authority.
According to the Wall Street Journal, “seven agencies include the old intelligence directorate of the Revolutionary Guard, as well as its cyberdefense unit; the intelligence directorate of the Basij; parts of the now-gutted intelligence ministry; Mr. Khamenei’s own intelligence unit, known as Office 101; and the plainclothes units and Tehran Revolutionary Guard headquarters tasked with controlling street protests in the capital.”
Khamenei is clearly worried about the loyalty of his security services, and only trusts the IRGC.
