 by Frank Gaffney The Center For Security Policy Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano came in for some well-deserved criticism for declaring over the weekend that "the system worked" with respect to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's effort to blow up the plane he was flying from Amsterdam to Detroit.
By Monday, she was backpedalling, acknowledging that "our system did not work in this instance." In truth, for a lot of Americans, Ms. Napolitano has not had much credibility since she tried to ban "terrorism" from the official lexicon of her department. But arguably the most serious indication that she is wholly ill-equipped to carry out her present responsibilities can be found in another - as yet uncorrected - statement she made on Sunday.
She told CNN's "State of the Union" that, "Right now, we have no indication [that Abdulmutallab's actions were] part of anything larger." Not "part of anything larger"? Is she serious? Does she take us for fools? Read my lips, Secretary Napolitano: Abdulmutallab's actions were absolutely, positively part of something larger. What they were part of is the comprehensive theo-political-legal program that authoritative Islam calls Shariah. This supremacist program requires its adherents to engage in jihad, or holy war, to bring about the triumph of Islam under a global theocracy, one that will impose Shariah on Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Pursuant to Shariah, jihad should - wherever practicable - be pursued through the terrifying use of violence. Where violent jihad is impractical or would be counterproductive, Shariah directs faithful Muslims to use other means to advance the same goal. Koran expert Robert Spencer calls the latter "stealth jihad." The question must be asked: Are we seeing a dramatic increase in violent jihadism in America - National Public Radio reported on Saturday that there had been fourteen attempts in 2009 (compared to two or three in recent years) and that they had been increasingly "operational" in character, not just "aspirational" - because violence is now seen to be practicable here? Specifically, could it be that jihadists have been emboldened by what they see as weakness and/or fecklessness on the part of the U.S. administration?
Could steps Team Obama has taken - such as the closure of Guantanamo Bay, the release of some hardened terrorists held there to Yemen (where Abdulmuttalab claims he got his plastic explosive device), granting others access to civilian courts and constitutional rights, etc. - actually be emboldening them to believe that murder and mayhem will accelerate the defeat and conquest of the infidel West? The U.S. government was warned by Abdulmutallab's father at least two months ago that his son had been "radicalized" - in other words, that he had embraced Shariah. That being the case, he was transformed from being one of the hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world who are not a problem into one of those who are. In the wake of the latest, narrowly averted massacre at the hands of jihadists, we are being promised executive branch reviews of the practice that, in the wake of his father's warning, put Abdulmuttalab on the improbably named Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment (TIDE) database - but did not revoke his multiple entry U.S. visa or otherwise keep him from flying. Multiple congressional investigations will be launched, as well. Such reviews will, however, amount to little more than a waste of time and taxpayer resources - and possibly a serious distraction - if they do not address, and henceforth require screening for, the motivation for such attacks. It is absurd to think that "the system" is going to do anything other than exponentially increase the amount of discomfort for airline passengers as long as it does not weed out those who embrace as an article of faith their duty to destroy us. We need to be equally clear about the menace posed by those who adhere to Shariah but profess to seek to "Islamicize" America through non-violent means. In the wake of the recent actual and averted attacks, the press has, for example, trumpeted the views of parents of five jihadists from Northern Virginia, imams at mosques where they worshipped and prominent fixtures in the various Muslim Brotherhood front organizations. Unsurprisingly, all of them profess shock - shock! - that these young people would want to do as they have been taught to, pursuant to Shariah: namely, follow the way of jihad against the Dar al-Harb (the "House of War" that is the non-Muslim world). Nowhere in these disinformation operations is any mention made of the Muslim Brotherhood's self-declared mission in America. According to an internal Brotherhood strategic plan dating from 1991, that mission is: "A kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah's religion is made victorious over all other religions." As long as Janet Napolitano, Attorney General Eric Holder, the intelligence community, law enforcement, the military, the media and most especially President Obama refuse to acknowledge what animates our enemies, we will never develop an effective strategy for defeating them, let alone successfully implement it. Nine years later we are still taking our shoes off while the jihadis have advanced their goals, Islamic supremacists have made incalculable inroads into our government institutions, culture, schools and workplaces.

 Few would consider Robert Spencer, author and prominent scholar of Islam, to be a radical. Spencer’s politics fit snuggly within the mainstream of conservative thought. He appears regularly at both Human Events and FrontPage Magazine. His books are published by the stalwart conservative press Regnery. His rhetoric and demeanor are hardly radical either. Read his books and you’ll find sly, witty humor to complement his often depressing subject matter. His talks are no different. He presents a friendly demeanor. Here’s an example from the recent Restoration Weekend: So in what manner is Spencer possessed of the Radical Spirit? To understand this we need to understand what it means to be radical. The first definition of the term (coming from its etymology) sums it up: “Arising from or going to a root or source.” Thus Spencer’s radicalism soon becomes clear to those familiar with his books and his essential blog, JihadWatch. His principle project is this: to go to the root of understanding Islam. To strip away the obfuscations of the Left and alleged “moderate” Islamist apologists and to really demonstrate just what this religion is all about. And so his newest book, The Complete Infidel’s Guide to the Koran is in a sense his most radical work yet. In the past Spencer has hit numerous Islam-related topics. Last year’s Stealth Jihad looked at how many Islamists have shifted tactics from violence to quiet subversion. Previous books focused on Muhammad and the differences between Islam and Christianity. Now he examines the Koran itself. In twelve accessible chapters – each interspersed with sidebars and quotes in Idiot’s Guide fashion – Spencer gives a crash course on the Koran’s origins, its interpretation and its contents. He explains how the book was assembled and why it’s so difficult to understand. (It’s not even written chronologically!) He also shows how pervasively anti-Christian, anti-Semitic, misogynistic, intolerant, and violent attitudes are embedded within this book revered by more than a billion people. The experience of reading The Complete Infidel’s Guide to the Koran brought to mind two other “radical” texts, each exploring a different kind of faith. The first is Destructive Generation: Second Thoughts about the Sixties, the classic critique of the New Left by Peter Collier and David Horowitz. Destructive Generation is a dense book that overwhelms with the sheer number, variety, and intensity of its facts and arguments. One completes it almost exhausted. Spencer’s Infidel’s Guide produces a similar effect. The author packs his text with so many quotes from the Koran, the Hadith, and prominent Muslim commentators that it’s profoundly difficult to argue with him. (Which perhaps explains why the usual anti-Spencer retort is to slur him as a bigot and not bother to even quote him.) The second is this year’s Jesus, Interrupted: Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible (And Why We Don’t Know About Them) by agnostic New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman. The new book by the author of Misquoting Jesus and God’s Problem provided a more thoughtful alternative to critiquing religion than the Christopher Hitchens/Richard Dawkins militant atheism. Spencer’s approach to the Koran is identical to Ehrman’s to the New Testament. He’s a nonbeliever who seeks to look at a holy text critically, examining how it was made and what the text itself actually says – not how it’s allegedly divine and infallible. Yet why is Spencer the “bigot” of the two? Why is it acceptable to look at Christianity critically but “racist” to do so for Islam? Why have we built an advantage to our enemies right into the fabric of our “politically correct” culture? And it’s here where we return to understanding Spencer as a radical. Because Spencer is not just a radical intellectual – willing to take an idea to its root no matter how maligned the left-dominated intellectual culture might make him. He’s also a radical activist. Consider another of the American Heritage Dictionary’s definitions of radical: “One who advocates fundamental or revolutionary changes in current practices, conditions, or institutions.” Possessed of the conservative’s understanding of human nature and loyalty to individual liberty he knows the only way one can both effectively and morally change society is to change people’s ideas. And so the “fundamental or revolutionary change” that he advocates is a revision in the way Americans understand Islam. Let us support him as he pursues this intellectual revolution. It is, at the moment, being waged principally between the English Defence League and United Against Fascism (suspected by many of being a recidivist Marxist organisation the real aim of which is the disruption of democracy). Currently the UAF gets a favourable press, as you would expect from the Western mainstream media, whereas there are desperate attempts made by that self-same media to link EDL to just about any extremist organisation which you might care to mention. Jihadists are Waging a “Cosmic War” Like “Christian Fundamentalists” and “Jewish Orthodox”, Alleges Reza AslanSami Alrabaa - 2009 / 5 / 28 Obviously, radical Muslims have succeeded in recruiting a young Shiite Iranian-American, called Reza Aslan, who alleges that he is “an internationally acclaimed writer”, to promote their Jihad. In his book, “How to Win a Cosmic War”, he urges his readers to understand Jihad as “an ideology that seeks removing social and political deprivation of Muslims across the globe”, especially in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Palestine. He also claims that Jihad is a “social movement”. Aslan states a deeper “understanding of the social, political, and economic forces that have made global Jihadism such an appealing phenomenon, particularly to Muslim youth” is required. This is ludicrous and a travesty. Jihadists do not possess any socio-economic program. The only “program” they uphold is Shari’a, a medieval collection of beliefs and practices that contradict basic human rights. Aslan alleges that Jihadists are fighting the same “cosmic war” with “Christian fundamentalists” and “Jewish Orthodox”. He also claims that the latter are as “zealous” about the purity of their faith as the Jihadists. At the end of his book, Aslan concludes that this “war” can never be won, but it can be and must be “managed” properly. The question is who is actually waging this bloody “war”? Have you ever heard or read of a Christian or Jew blowing themselves in crowds of innocent people? Never! It is Jihadists who are doing so in the name of Allah, who orders his Muslims in the Koran and Hadith to maim and hate non-Muslims. Throughout his book, Aslan tries to justify Jihad but fails to explain it honestly. To do so, he alleges that the Dutch Parliament is debating a legislation through which the Koran has got to be outlawed. This is incorrect. Even if this were correct some Dutch legislators, led by Geert Wilders, want the Koran to be banned because it incites to hatred and violence. According to a study by Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, over 80% of Germans who read the Koran favor banning it like “Mein Kampf” by Hitler. Aslan also claims that Muslims living in the West are “alienated” by the majority in their host countries, and that is why some of them join Jihad. This is not correct either. Peaceful Muslims are integrated in the West and no body shows any hostility toward them. It is only radical Muslims who are rejecting the West and as a consequence are being rejected by others. Later in the book, Aslan shows his Jihadist character and affiliation and urges the West to recognize that “Islamophobia” gets them no. In other words, “leave us alone destroying your un-Islamic societies to replace them with Shari’a.” Aslan also alleges that “Poll after poll across the Muslim world has revealed overwhelmingly majorities among all classes, ages, and sectors of society condemning al Qaeda’s actions.” What “polls” is Aslan talking about? On the contrary, polls conducted by serious academic institutions prove the contrary. To add insult to injury, Aslan contradicts himself when he states, Muslims across the world “consider militant groups like al Qaeda to be the only forces in the Muslim world giving voice to their grievances.” Aslan is an Islamist and has exposed himself in his article, “Depicting Mohammed: Why I m offended by the Danish cartoons of the prophet.” Link: http://www.slate.com/id/2135661/ In this piece he defends fanaticism and opposes religious and opinion freedom like most Jihadists. Sadly, some Western governments are following Aslan’s advice. The European Union issued edict 1605 through which criticism of Islam in no longer tolerated. In Switzerland, a German lady was prosecuted for posting critical articles of radical Islam on her website. She was accused of “racism”. In Germany, the Christian Democratic Interior Minister, Wolfgang Schäuble meets regularly with Muslim leaders, who are predominantly radical Muslims. He and several German politicians across the board want to introduce Islam, as a subject, in school curricula, from an Islamic point of view. When Schäuble meets with Muslim leaders, they tell him that they fully approve of the Constitution, and he believes that. Behind his back and in the absence of media, they gloat, “The fool and his ilk believe us.” Muslim centers, branded as “cultural” are everywhere in Germany. They teach youngsters hatred and violence. This is incorrect. The AKP is, slowly but steadily, Islamizing Turkey. It is preaching Jihad and dreams of re-establishing an Ottoman Caliphate. Besides, it is still denying the genocide that Turkey inflicted on the Christian Armenians by the beginning of the 20th century, and is still denying any autonomy for the 8 million Kurds living in Turkey. Aslan’s suggestion for “cooling down the temperature with Jihadists” does not work and will never work. Had the world community cooled down the temperature with Hitler and Pol Pot, more atrocities would have been committed. Aslan also brags that “Al Qaeda may never fully dissipate”. This is wishful thinking. Al Qaeda, like most extremist doctrines, will, sooner or later, dissipate. The only question remains - at what price? If I were the head of the University of California, Riverside, where Aslan is allegedly teaching “creative writing”, I would wonder whether Aslan uses his authority to teach impressionable students how to justify Jihad through “creative writing”. Radical Muslims and Jihadits, in particular, must be exposed and all root causes of their doctrine and practices must be blasted, isolated, and eventually eradicated. The West, and for that matter the entire world, does not need propagandists like Aslan who plays down the threat of radical Islam and Jihad. We need people who tell the truth about this virus which has befallen the whole world so that the root causes of Jihad will be eliminated wherever they are. With terror attacks having become a routine and nearly daily occurrence, especially in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, the conventional wisdom holds that terrorism works very well. For example, the late Ehud Sprinzak of the Hebrew University ascribed the prevalence of suicide terrorism to its "gruesome effectiveness." Robert Pape of the University of Chicago argues that suicide terrorism is growing "because terrorists have learned that it pays." Harvard law professor Alan M. Dershowitz titled one of his books, Why Terrorism Works. But Max Abrahms, a fellow at Stanford University, disputes this conclusion, noting that they focus narrowly on the well-known but rare terrorist victories – while ignoring the much broader, if more obscure, pattern of terrorism's failures. To remedy this deficiency, Abrahms took a close look at each of the 28 terrorist groups so designated by the U.S. Department of State since 2001 and tallied how many of them achieved its objectives. His study, "Why Terrorism Does Not Work," finds that those 28 groups had 42 different political goals and that they achieved only 3 of those goals, for a measly 7 percent success rate. Those three victories would be: (1) Hezbollah's success at expelling the multinational peacekeepers from Lebanon in 1984, (2) Hezbollah's success at driving Israeli forces out of Lebanon in 1985 and 2000, and (3) the Tamil Tiger's partial success at winning control over areas of Sri Lanka after 1990. That's it. The other 26 groups, from the Abu Nidal Organization and Al-Qaeda and Hamas to Aum Shinriko and Kach and the Shining Path, occasionally achieved limited success but mostly failed completely. Abrahms draws three policy implications from the data. -
Guerrilla groups that mainly attack military targets succeed more often than terrorist groups that mainly attack civilian targets. (Terrorists got lucky in the Madrid attack of 2004.) -
Terrorists find it "extremely difficult to transform or annihilate a country's political system"; those with limited objectives (such as acquiring territory) do better than those with maximalist objectives (such as seeking regime change). -
Not only is terrorism "an ineffective instrument of coercion, but … its poor success rate is inherent to the tactic of terrorism itself." This lack of success should "ultimately dissuade potential jihadists" from blowing up civilians.
This final implication, of frequent failure leading to demoralization, suggests an eventual reduction of terrorism in favor of less violent tactics. Indeed, signs of change are already apparent. Sayyid Imam al-Sharif At the elite level, for example the former jihad theorist, Sayyid Imam al-Sharif (a.k.a. Dr. Fadl), now denounces violence: "We are prohibited from committing aggression," he writes, "even if the enemies of Islam do that." On the popular level, the Pew Research Center's 2005 Global Attitudes Project found that "support for suicide bombings and other terrorist acts has fallen in most Muslim-majority nations surveyed" and "so too has confidence in Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden." Likewise, a 2007 Program on International Policy Attitudes study found that "Large majorities in all countries oppose attacks against civilians for political purposes and see them as contrary to Islam. … Most respondents … believe that politically-motivated attacks on civilians, such as bombings or assassinations, cannot be justified." On the practical level, terrorist groups are evolving. Several of them – specifically in Algeria, Egypt, and Syria – have dropped violence and now work within the political system. Others have taken on non-violent functions – Hezbollah delivers medical services and Hamas won an election. If Ayatollah Khomeini and Osama bin Laden represent Islamism's first iteration, Hezbollah and Hamas represent a transitional stage, and Turkey's prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, arguably the world's most influential Islamist, shows the benefits of going legitimate. Watching the American MainStreamMedia®, represented by Fox-News, CNN, ABC-NBC-CBS etc., during these perilous times...has sickened me. As the MSM® gleefully provides a soapbox for the most vile of jihadists and their Jew-hating supporters [Commentators?], I am reminded of the Spring and Summer of 2001.
During that time, almost eight years ago, American media denied their audience important truths about Palestinian attacks in Israel, and the organised Jihad against the West. While our buses were being blown-up, and our children were being slaughtered at discotheques, the American public heard next to nothing. When the American President angrily screeched to Israeli reporters that the murders of Israelis was “not terrorism”.....our American friends heard nothing. When our [Israeli] security services tried to warn of impending attacks against American interests......the Administration, and MSM®, refused to listen.
Then came 9-11.
The situation in 2009 is eerily reminiscent of those dangerous days leading up to the attacks of 9-11. The MSM® has enrolled the American public in their “Mushroom Club” and the Administration is playing along by using terms like “ceasefire” and “monitoring”. “Ceasefires” have been used against Israel, and to empower the Islamic world, in 1956, 1967, 1973, 1984, 1994, and throughout the new century. “Monitoring” translates as putting massive Arab military forces on the borders of Israel...within the West Bank and Gaza. The MainStreamMedia® in concert with the “International Community” is closing in for the kill.
The “Final Solution” to the Arab-Israeli Conflict is being put in motion while we are pre-occupied with Paris Hilton and the Comedy Network.
And then what?
Empowered by organised Jew-Hatred and suicidal political correctness, the pro-terror lobby and a massive 5th column of stealth jihadists have taken to the streets of America and Europe. Calls to “Put the Jews in Ovens” and “Nuke Israel” are heard in Florida, New York, Chicago, and throughout the United States.
Complicit in the siege of Israel and the West, the Media has chosen not to report the Islamic revolution on American territory. The American public is being targeted along with the Israelis, and like the run-up to the 9-11 attacks, they are being denied the truth about the threat.

Similarly grandiose declarations had long been a staple of Islamist rhetoric, but al-Qaradawi stressed that victory would be achieved “not through the sword,” but through more covert measures — a kind of stealth jihad. Fourteen years later, Robert Spencer believes that al-Qaradawi has come closer to realizing his vision, both in Europe and the U.S., than many recognize. This theme is at the heart of Spencer’s latest book, appropriately titled Stealth Jihad: How Radical Islam is Subverting America without Guns or Bombs. Spencer’s mission, in his books as on his popular website, Jihad Watch, has always been twofold: to spotlight the activities of Islamic extremists across the globe and to slash through the immense tangle of political correctness that ensnares so much of the Western world’s debate about Islamic radicalism — and especially its disputed debt to Islamic theology. While one may quarrel with some of its conclusions, Stealth Jihad succeeds admirably on both counts. A stated goal of the book is to expose the efforts of Islamic radicals to impose Islamic Sharia law in the West.  Lisa Valentine takes solace in her husband Omar HallBy Dionne Walker A Muslim woman arrested for refusing to take off her head scarf at a courthouse security checkpoint said Wednesday that she felt her human and civil rights were violated. A judge ordered Lisa Valentine, 40, to serve 10 days in jail for contempt of court, said police in Douglasville, a city of about 20,000 people on Atlanta's west suburban outskirts. Valentine violated a court policy that prohibits people from wearing any headgear in court, police said after they arrested her Tuesday. Kelley Jackson, a spokeswoman for Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker, said state law doesn't permit or prohibit head scarfs. "It's at the discretion of the judge and the sheriffs and is up to the security officers in the court house to enforce their decision," she said. Valentine, who recently moved to Georgia from New Haven, Conn., said the incident reminded her of stories she'd heard of the civil rights-era South.  As a staunch supporter of the Constitution, which expressly states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...," I am embarrassed by many of my countrymen who are bending over backwards to accommodate radical Muslims by installing religious ritualistic devices in public places.
As a Muslim, I am embarrassed, as well, by many of my co-religionists who attempt to impose their radical religious agenda on American society by installing the same ritualistic devices in these same public places.
As an American Muslim, I am personally offended when I read about footbaths on public property, i.e., municipal airports, state colleges, etc. I think that the best way to combat these blatant Constitutional violations is by turning the aforementioned footbaths into urinals.
Our government seems to have neither brains nor balls to combat the advance of stealth Gihad, but I believe that American people are smart enough and courageous enough to handle the threat of Sharia.

Shukri Abu-Baker, Ghassan Elashi (founder of the Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations), Mohamed El-Mezain, Mufid Abdulqader, and Abdelrahman Odeh could get sentences of as long as twenty years in prison for providing support to terrorists.  By Bruce Bawer In my 2006 book While Europe Slept, I expressed concern about the will of Europeans to defend their freedoms in the face of the continent’s Islamization. I contrasted them in this regard with Americans, for whom, I argued, freedom is a living reality for which they are willing to fight and to sacrifice. My book came out in the midst of the Danish cartoon crisis. And during that crisis I saw things in Europe that — quite frankly — surprised and impressed me. I saw the editors of a Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, stand up for freedom of expression in the face of worldwide rioting, vandalism, and murder by Muslims and contempt on the part of foolish Westerners. I saw a Danish prime minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, in defiance of the UN, the EU, and most of the “international community,” stand by that newspaper and refuse to meet with Muslim ambassadors who were out to intimidate his country and to force Sharia-like restrictions on Western liberties. I saw the people of Denmark, in overwhelming numbers, stand behind their prime minister in his refusal to yield to jihad. And I saw major newspapers across Europe reprinting the Jyllands-Posten cartoons in acts of free-speech solidarity. I don’t mean to paint too rosy a picture. The Danish response wasn’t perfect. Not a single newspaper in Britain reprinted the cartoons. And both the Swedish and Norwegian governments provided textbook cases of cowering dhimmitude. But none of that was really a surprise. What did surprise, and disappoint, me was the American political and media establishment. Both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush condemned the Jyllands-Posten cartoons out of hand. The State Department denounced them too, and only reversed itself after getting an earful from the Danish government, one of its few allies in Iraq. In the entire United States of America, exactly one major newspaper, the Philadelphia Inquirer, reprinted the cartoons. And while the major broadcast networks, as well as CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC, reported extensively on the cartoon riots, none of them ever showed the cartoons at all.
