Columbus Police Kick CAIR to the Curb

The law enforcement freeze on dealing with the Council on American-Islamic Relations is spreading. Last week, Mary Jacoby’s report for IPT News revealed that the FBI has cut ties with CAIR until officials answer questions about the group’s documented roots in a Hamas support network. Now the Columbus (Ohio) Police Department (CPD) has followed suit.

Last November, CAIR officials were invited to speak to the current class of police training recruits on Islam, which prompted criticisms of the training seminar both inside and outside the police department. CAIR’s status as unindicted co-conspirator in the successful Holy Land Foundation prosecutions and the CAIR-Ohio chapter’s previous fundraising events for the defense fund of convicted cop-killer Jamil Al-Amin were among the concerns cited.

CPD spokeswoman Amanda Ford confirmed Wednesday that CAIR representatives will no longer be used for teaching “cultural diversity” classes at the CPD Police Academy:

“After the latest information that has been received, a decision was made that CAIR reps will no longer be asked to come back for recruit training.”

The Columbus FBI office also should be relieved at their agency’s decision to distance itself from CAIR. Despite having enlisted CAIR in 2006 as a leading member of the FBI’s Multi-Cultural Council for the Southern District of Ohio, which includes the Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton areas, a meeting hosted by CAIR-Ohio president Asma Mobin-Uddin featuring FBI Special Agents Kevin Bennett, Steve Flowers and Eric Thomas last March had the local office reeling. Local chapter of unindicted co-conspirator in jihad terror funding case gives "diversity training" to Columbus, Ohio police

"CAIR-OH Conducts Diversity Training for Columbus Police," from the CAIR site, November 25:

Representatives of the Columbus chapter of CAIR-Ohio, along with a Muslim law enforcement officer, recently conducted diversity training on “Islam and Muslims: What Law Enforcement Personnel Should Know” at the Columbus Police Training Academy.

Topics covered included the basic beliefs and practices of Islam, practical advice to help future law enforcement personnel develop cultural competency when interacting with the Muslim community, and a section on cultural awareness about the Somali community, as Columbus is home to one of the largest populations of Somali refugees in the United States. This is the 5th year that CAIR-Ohio has conducted the training.

“We welcome the opportunity to improve understanding and cooperation between Law Enforcement officials and the Muslim community,” said Dr. Asma Mobin-Uddin, president of CAIR-Ohio. “Educational sessions like the ones we have been participating in for the past five years help law enforcement personnel appreciate the needs and concerns of the members of the diverse communities they serve.”...

HAMAS terrorist leader thanks ISNA (46 days until ISNA national convention occupies Columbus)

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is coming to Columbus for its annual convention at the end of August (46 days and counting!), and I thought it appropriate to remind our readers exactly who and what ISNA really is.

For instance, in 1997 after he was deported to Jordan (two years after he was designated a terrorist by the US government) HAMAS terrorist leader Mousa Abu Marzook published an open letter in the Washington Report of Middle East Affairs in thanks of the support by American Islamic organizations that had aided him and contributed money to his defense fund in the two years he was incarcerated while the US government was trying to deport him (Jordan would also deport Marzook and the rest of the HAMAS leadership).Read more ...
