The thin blue line of jihad

The Telegraph reports that the National Association of Muslim Police has attacked government policy on countering Islamic extremism. In evidence to a parliamentary committee investigating Islamic extremism, the NAMP attacked

the Government’s anti-terrorism strategy, warning that it is an ‘affront to British values’ which threatens to trigger ethnic unrest... that ministers were wrong to blame Islam for being the ‘driver’ behind recent terrorist attacks.

Far-Right extremists were a more dangerous threat to national security... that Muslims were being ‘stigmatised’ by the Government’s attempts to tackle terrorism, which was adding to ‘hatred’ against entire communities.

...The memorandum warned that Muslims were subjected to 'daily abuse' due to the strategy. 'We must not diminish our British values further by continuing to allow such behaviour and policies to continue unchecked.'

This is an extremely alarming development.

First, a general point. The very idea that police officers form themselves into interest groups of any stripe whatever should be anathema to the ethic of policing.

That applies equally to Black, Gay, Jewish or One-Legged Transgendered Red-Haired Police associations. Police officers should serve the entire community equally, and should have no agenda but that professional commitment of equal public service to all. The idea that they identify themselves as an interest group is simply wrong, and the police service should never have allowed this to develop.

The memorandum by the National Association of Muslim Police, however, is of a different order of magnitude altogether.

To take their least serious point first: the idea that there is no Islamic threat and that the real threat to Britain comes from the ‘far right’ is demonstrably ludicrous. The ‘far right’ poses no threat to Britain other than some low-level thuggery.

The Islamist threat to Britain is very great indeed.

Dozens of Islamist plots aimed at murdering thousands of people have been thwarted, and the security service say between 2000 and 4000 British Muslims are radicalised to potential acts of terrorism.

This terrorism is part of a global holy war being waged in the name of Islam. While many British Muslims support neither the aims nor the tactics of this holy war, an insupportable number do.

For Muslim police officers to deny this is extremely disturbing. It means they have bought into the radical narrative of systematic denial and deceit.

But the NAMP went much, much further than this. They attacked government policy; worse, they attacked government policy aimed at protecting the lives and safety of British citizens; worse still, they suggested that British Muslims should resist that policy, and implicitly threatened disorder if it were not changed.

Let us pinch ourselves: these are British police officers, subject to the same disciplinary and professional codes as any other police officers. Yet their call for action to ‘check’ counter-terrorism policy, and the implicit threat of violence if it is not so checked, suggests that rather than helping form the line of defence against the Islamist threat, these police officers must be considered to be part of that threat.

On its website, moreover, NAMP recommends that British Muslims reporting crimes should also ‘report any such actions to the Islamic Human Rights Commission’. Let’s think about the implications of this for a moment.

The IHRC is an extremist organisation with links to Iran. The NAMP is therefore advising British Muslims to use an extreme Iran-linked Islamic jihadi front organisation, which threatens the security of this nation, as a parallel law enforcement mechanism in Britain. The attempt to set up parallel Islamic institutions and jurisdiction in Britain is a core element of the Islamist attempt to suborn and take over this country.

The irony of this frightening situation is extreme. The government has bent over backwards to avoid associating Islam with terrorism. In an attempt to peel moderate Muslims away from the radicals, it has poured more than £140 million a year into ‘moderate’ Muslim groups. It has positively fallen over itself to encourage the recruitment of Muslim police officers in the belief that that this would persuade British Muslims that the government had no problem with them, only with the radicals in their midst. Yet these are precisely the policies which the NAMP claims have led to ‘hatred against Muslims’ which ‘has grown to a level that defies all logic and is an affront to British values’.

Thus the fruits of appeasement. Rather than taming jihadi extremism in Britain, the cowardice of politicians has merely resulted in fracturing the thin blue line that protects us -- and turning it into a potential weapon of the jihad.

Muslim Brotherhood Member Becomes Illinois Police Chaplain

From CAN:

The Illinois State Police’s first Muslim chaplain, Sheikh Kifah Mustapha, is listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the terrorism financing trial of the Holy Land Foundation and a member of the radical Muslim Brotherhood organization by the federal government, reports The Investigative Project on Terrorism.

The list that was drawn up as a result of the trial says that Mustapha is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee, a group set up to secretly support the Hamas terrorist group in the United States.

He also worked as a fundraiser for the Holy Land Foundation until 2001 when the government shut the non-profit group down for financing Hamas. Prior to that, he worked for the Islamic Association of Palestine, another Hamas front that was shut down.

It’s not clear whether the Illinois State Police knew about these connections and didn’t care, or whether it failed to adequately research Mustapha’s background. Either raises serious concerns about who will counsel the state’s Muslim troopers,” IPT says.

The IPT report says that Mustapha has also helped raise money for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, another group tied to the Muslim Brotherhood that was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the trial of the Holy Land Foundation, and the Muslim-American Society.

CAIR is currently the subject of a book by Dave Gaubatz and Paul Sperry titled “Muslim Mafia” that alleges the group supports extremism and engages in criminal activity including fraud in order to support Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Tennis Jihad: LADY GA-GA KARKAR: Palestinian group plots Australian Open disruption

The wife a wealthy Melbourne barrister, Sonja Karkar and her pro-terror Palestinian front group “Australians for Palestine” is planning to disrupt the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne.

VEXNEWS understands that Victoria Police have been alerted to the disruption plans.

Karkar’s group has gone completely ga-ga because an Israeli (read Jew) athlete Shahar Peer has entered the tournament. They plan to terrorise and intimidate Peer in an orchestrated campaign of disruption.

Her website ominously encourages members of her pro-terrorist group to attend any game played by Shahar Peer:

The Australian Open begins on Monday 18 January 2010 and runs for two weeks. Shahar Peer will be playing in the first round and as soon as we know the date and time of her match, we will post the details.

An email sent by Karkar makes her intentions perfectly clear:

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WISH TO HELP PROTEST WHEN SHE PLAYS DURING THE TOURNAMENT.

VEXNEWS understands from a well-placed source that Karkar’s group plans to smuggle whistles and other noise-making devices into the tennis centre.

They will not necessarily all be sitting in one group. In addition they will attempt to bring in a large banner to unfurl attacking the young woman and her country. These non-violent terrorist tactics are clearly calculated at distracting and discouraging Shaheer Peer from playing the sport at the elite level.

Left-wing sources have been told that they can expect a free pass to be organised by them, giving rise to the suspicion that the wealthy lady Karkar is financing the tennis terror campaign.

She is married to one of Melbourne’s most accomplished commercial barristers.

The bejewelled, heavily made-up activist is affronted at the mere presence of an Israeli athlete at the Australian Open and has judged her to be responsible for what ails the upper class protester.

The ginger group Australians for Palestine have displayed posters that include a photograph of Shahar Peer in Israeli military uniform without explaining that all Israelis are required to serve in the Israeli Defence Forces, a situation made necessary by being surrounded by those wishing to obliterate the Middle East’s only true liberal democracy.

Karkar’s attack is nothing less than organised racism, she pronounces:

Although Shahar Peer has been asked to step away from promoting Israel, she already made her choice to serve Israel when she agreed to become an Israeli army poster girl.

Her group disingenously claims Israel is an “apartheid” state, despite Israel being one of the most ethnically diverse and inclusive societies on Earth. And uses that false claim to justify a “sports boycott.”

Cop who stopped Fort Hood shooting, Kimberly Munley, says training took over

The fearless civilian police officer who traded gunfire with Fort Hood killer Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, said her training kicked in when she confronted the madman Thursday outside the Soldier Readiness Processing Center.

"The entire incident was very confusing and chaotic," Sgt. Kimberly Munley, told "The Oprah Winfrey Show" from her Texas hospital bed.

Munley, a 34-year-old mother of two married to an Army Special Forces officer, had been cleaning her car and topping off the gas tank — a daily end-of-shift ritual — when she heard gunshots.

"There was many people outside pointing to the direction that this individual was apparently located, and as soon as I got out of my vehicle and ran up the hill was when things got pretty bad," she said.

That’s when she saw Hasan, the psychiatrist turned militant Muslim who began his reign of terror with the shout of "Allahu Akbar" or "God is Great" in Arabic, gun in hand.

He had just ruthlessly slaughtered 12 fellow troops and a civilian.

"The training does take over," she said, when recalling that she along with fellow officer Police Senior Sgt. Mark Todd engaged Hasan in a firefight.

They took Hasan down with four shots to the torso. He is recovering in an Army hospital.

Munley, trained in active-response tactics, took three shots, one in each thigh and a third in her hand.

"When I got shot, it felt like a muscle being torn out of my leg," she said, adding, "I’m doing well."

Her ER physician, Dr. Kelly Matlock, said her first words after the shooting were "Did anybody die?"

"I was very concerned as to who else had been injured," she said.

Munley, who is 5’2" and 125 pounds, is nicknamed "Mighty Mouse" for once tackling a suspect with a gun.

"Everyday is progress for me, and things are getting better day by day," she said. "And emotionally, I’m just hoping the rest of the officers and the injured and the families of the deceased are healing as well."

Officer praised for taking down suspected gunman

Sgt. Kimberly Munley
KILLEEN, Texas – A civilian police officer is being praised for taking down a man suspected of opening fire on fellow soldiers at Fort Hood when she shot him in the torso.

Police officials say after arriving at the scene of Thursday's gunfire, Sgt. Kimberly Munley saw the suspect and started firing at him.

Munley's boss, Chuck Medley, told The Associated Press on Friday that Hasan then spun around and charged at her with a gun in each hand.

Medley says Munley shot the alleged gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, in the upper torso, allowing officers to take him into custody. Medley says in the exchange of gunfire, Munley was shot in the thighs and wrist.

The 34-year-old Munley is from Pennsylvania, used to be in the Army and is married to a Fort Bragg, N.C. soldier.

KABUL — The Taliban have said they were behind the killing of five British soldiers shot dead by an Afghan policeman they were training in Helmand province, Sky News reported.

A spokesman said the officer, who fled the scene and has yet to be found, was a member of their rebel organization, according to Sky News.

"It's a new Taliban tactic," he said.

"We have more Taliban who have infiltrated into the police and army."

Three soldiers from the Grenadier Guards and two from the Royal Military Police were fatally wounded during an attack following a patrol in the Nad-e'Ali district.

Six soldiers wounded in the incident are being treated at Camp Bastion, the Army's main Afghan base.

Plea to police over female officers

Wafa Issa

The head of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children yesterday appealed to the police to ensure victims of domestic violence and human trafficking were dealt with by female officers.

Afra al Basti made the call to Dubai Police at a two-day workshop aimed at giving officers the skills to spot and help victims of abuse, both women and children.

She said it was vital to have female officers present when victims were interviewed and called on the force to have more policewomen in place to do so.

“To have female officers is essential in the context of domestic abuse and human trafficking, because these women need to talk about very sensitive issues,” said Ms al Basti.

She said many female victims would be further traumatised by having to reveal details of abuse to a male officer, and that the fear of having to do so could even discourage them from seeking help in the first place.

This, said Ms al Basti, was especially true in UAE society where “women are not used to recounting details of their lives to men”.

Having female officers handle cases of domestic violence and human trafficking would encourage victims to contact the police more readily, Ms al Basti said.

She added that the environment within police stations themselves needed to appear less threatening, so victims seeking help would not be put off.

Hamas opens police college in Gaza

Ali Waked

The Hamas movement announced Saturday the opening of a new police college in the Gaza Strip.

The new school is expected to take in 188 students who are currently members of existing security organizations as well as new students.

Hamas' Foreign Minister Fathi Hamed said the decision to open the college was taken "because of Arab states' refusal to accept students from the Strip."

"Just like we embarked on the Jihad project, our election victory, and the struggle against the siege, we believe that with God's help we'll be able to succeed with this college too," he said.

The establishment of the new college attests to the difficulties involved in bringing about genuine reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah.

Palestinian sources from both groups told Ynet that signing a reconciliation agreement is one thing, but implementing it on the ground is quite another matter.

"Our basic assumption is that the West Bank will continue to be under the exclusive control of the Palestinian Authority, while the Strip will remain under the exclusive control of Hamas," one source said.

Police told to treat hundreds more attacks as 'honour' crimes

Hundreds of attacks are to be treated as 'honour' crimes in a new drive by police to prosecute more offenders.

Prosecutors hope the drive will also ensure that victims receive more rapid protection that can save them from possible further violence or a forced marriage.

Under the new guidance it will be assumed that an honour crime has been committed in any case in which there is the slightest sign that such an offence has taken place - even if the victim has not reported it.

Elements of the strategy are designed to ensure that potentially vital evidence of honour-based persecution is not overlooked.

It will include information for police and prosecutors on how to identify male victims amid concern that at least 15 per cent of cases involve attacks or forced marriage inflicted on men.

The horrific consequences of honour violence were highlighted by an attack in Leytonstone in July in which a 24-year-old Danish man of Asian origin had acid poured down his throat and was repeatedly stabbed because of his relationship with a Muslim woman.

In January 2006 Banaz Mahmod was killed after falling in love with a man her family did not want her to marry.

The 20-year-old, who had left an arranged marriage and started a relationship with Rhamat Sulemani, 29, was strangled with a bootlace at her home in Surrey in January 2006.

Her father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and uncle Ari Mahmod, 50, of Mitcham, were convicted of the killing.

Big police depts back anti-terror citizen watch

By EILEEN SULLIVAN

WASHINGTON (AP) - The nation's big city police chiefs are backing an anti-terrorism community watch program to educate people about what behavior is truly suspicious and ought to be reported to police.

Police Chief William Bratton of Los Angeles, whose department developed the iWATCH program, calls it the 21st century version of Neighborhood Watch.

Using brochures, public service announcements and meetings with community groups, iWATCH is designed to deliver concrete advice on how the public can follow the oft-repeated post-9/11 recommendation: "If you see something, say something." Program materials list nine types of suspicious behavior that should prompt people to call police and 12 kinds of places to look for it.

Among the indicators:

_If you smell chemicals or other fumes.

_If you see someone wearing clothes that are too big and too heavy for the season.

_If you see strangers asking about building security.

_If you see someone purchasing supplies or equipment that could be used to make bombs.

The important places to watch include: government buildings, mass gatherings, schools and public transportation.

The program also is designed to ease reporting by providing a dedicated toll-free phone number and Internet Web page through which the public can alert authorities. Los Angeles has already begun its toll-free number and planned to put its Web site up this weekend.

The Major Cities Chiefs Association, headed by Bratton and comprised of the chiefs of the 63 largest police departments in the United States and Canada, was expected to endorse iWATCH at its conference in Denver on Saturday as a model for all its communities.

"It's really just common sense types of things," Bratton said.

But American Civil Liberties Union policy counsel Mike German, a former FBI agent who worked on terrorism cases, said the indicators are all relatively common behaviors. And he suspects people will fall back on personal biases and preconceived stereotypes of what a terrorist looks like when making the decision to report someone to the police.

"That just plays into the negative elements of society and doesn't really help the situation," German said.

After the Sept. 11 attacks, the Bush administration proposed enlisting postal carriers, gas and electric company workers, telephone repairmen and other workers with access to private homes in a program to report suspicious behavior to the FBI. Privacy advocates condemned this as too intrusive, and the plan was dropped.

Bratton and LAPD Commander Joan McNamara, who developed iWATCH, say privacy and civil liberties protections are built into this program.

"We're not asking people to spy on their neighbors," McNamara said.

If someone reports something based on race or ethnicity, the police will not accept the report, and someone will explain to the caller why that is not an indicator of suspicious behavior, McNamara said.

The iWATCH program isn't the first to list possible indicators of suspicious behavior. Some cities, like Miami, have offered a public list of seven signs of possible terrorism. Federal agencies also have put out various lists over the years.

Iran Police Tell Shop Owners to Cover Up Mannequins

TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian police warned shop owners Wednesday against displaying female mannequins wearing underwear or showing off their curves as part of a government campaign against Western influence.

In a letter published in the state-owned IRAN daily, the authorities also stated that men should not sell women's underwear, and advised shopkeepers against showing models with neckties and bow-ties, which are considered Western and un-Islamic.

Iranian officials have issued similar warnings in the past, but have ramped up their campaign against Western influence since President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to power in 2005.

Wednesday's warning also reiterated the government's ban on displaying immoral pictures. The letter did not provide specifics, but such statements usually refer to photos of Western celebrities, music bands or words in English.

The police urged the union of dress shop owners to confront stores that violate the ban in the aim of "safeguarding religious values and the Islamic revolution."

Many, however, fear that the ban on Western clothes could be used by hard-liners in the government to crack down on supporters of the country's more liberal, pro-reform opposition which has challenged Ahmadinejad's re-election victory in June as fraudulent.

The opposition and its supporters led street protests against the election results, presenting the cleric-led regime with its biggest challenge since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

After the 1979 revolution that brought Iran's clerics to power, women were required to cover their hair and urged to wear a bulky garment known as a chador, a traditional head to toe robe.

Iraq sends extra police to Syrian border

Iraqi authorities have sent additional national police brigades to the border with Syria amid heightened tensions between the two nations, Ministry of Information officials said Saturday.

The move comes after Iraq demanded that Damascus turn over two Iraqis living in Syria who are believed to be part of last month's terror attacks in Baghdad.

Syria and Iraq each recalled their ambassadors from the other country last week after Iraqi authorities made the request.

The string of bombings struck Iraq's capital on August 19, with two truck bombs ripping through the Iraqi Finance Ministry and Foreign Ministry.

At least 100 people were killed and hundreds more were wounded in Baghdad's bloodiest day since U.S. troops handed over security control to Iraqi forces and moved outside of Iraqi cities nearly two months ago.

Suicide bombings shake Chechnya

Chechnya
At least four policemen have been killed in two suicide bomb attacks in the capital of Russia's mainly Muslim republic of Chechnya, officials said.

Ruslan Alkhanov, the Chechen interior minister, said the two suicide attackers detonated their explosives on bicycles near checkpoints in the city of Grozny.

"One suicide bomb was detonated four metres from a police car, killing two officers," he said on Friday.

He said that two other police officers died and one was injured in the second attack.

Blood and body parts could be seen near the charred remains of a bicycle and a police car at the site one of the explosions.

Neave Barker, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Moscow, said: "This is certainly an indication of another significantly sized attack by insurgents against the pro-Kremlin authorities in the Caucasus."

Grozny, the Chechen capital, has seen a series of bombings in recent months, ending years of relative calm in the city during a rebuilding campaign by Ramzan Kadyrov, the regional president. Read more here ...

Muslims welcome police scarf move

Women police officers wearing headscarves
The head scarves are designed to match the force's uniform

Avon and Somerset Police is issuing head coverings to its female officers so they can enter mosques.

The force says the move will help its officers respect Muslim religious customs while carrying out their job.

The garments, designed to match the force's uniform, were designed in consultation with Muslim groups.

Imam Rashad Azami, of Bath, said: "This will go a long way in encouraging a trustful relationship between the police and the Muslim community."

Mr Azami, director of Bath Islamic Society, said: "The police have been working closely with the Muslim community in the area on many levels for the last few years."

There are two versions of the head coverings, to match the black of a police officer's uniform and the blue of the Police Community Support Officer uniforms.

Both carry the force's crest.

Muslims criticize producers of Seattle police training program

Seattle PD
By Janet I. Tu

Saying it's not going to take sides in someone else's feud, the Seattle Police Department is going ahead with a racial-awareness training program that has raised concerns among some local Muslims.

They are troubled not by the content of the training program but by the organization that produced it: the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a 32-year-old Los Angeles-based Jewish human-rights organization perhaps best known for its Holocaust education work.

They accuse the Wiesenthal Center of spreading fear toward Islam by producing or promoting films about extremism within Islam. And they, like many other Muslims elsewhere, are also angry at the center for building a Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem partially on top of what once was an ancient Muslim cemetery.

"The center has an anti-Muslim agenda, to be frank," contends Arsalan Bukhari, president of the Washington state chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Read more ...

Arizona: Muslim Woman Pulled Over for Suspicion of DUI...Immediately Claims Islamophobia

She says her (hilarious) bumper sticker, "Islam means peace" was the reason the cops pulled her over, not the fact that she was swerving into other lanes. And yes, CAIR is already involved.

By Nathan Gonzalez

The bumper sticker on Lisa Gopalan's car reads "Islam means peace."

But the Muslim woman and former schoolteacher believes her religion gained her the unwanted attention of Gilbert police, who arrested her for DUI when she failed a field sobriety test.

"I was so humiliated," said Gopalan, who along with her husband was recently laid off. "I do feel I was racially profiled to an extent. The whole thing was so upsetting. I'm no criminal."

While the Chandler resident awaits a possible misdemeanor charge of DUI for being impaired to the slightest degree, police opened an investigation into her claims that she was racially profiled.

"The Gilbert Police Department doesn't make traffic stops or contact based on racial descriptors," said Sgt. Mark Marino, a police spokesman. Read more ...

Scottish forces ordered to give priority to crimes against Muslims

Newspaper
Scottish Daily Mail 28-02-09
By Dean Herbert

Police in Scotland have been ordered to give special priority to crimes where the victims are Muslim.

In a move that last night sparked a fresh row over political correctness, a senior officer revealed that the race and religion of a victim has now become a crucial factor in how police respond to crime.

Inspector Tom Galbraith, of Lothian and Borders Police’s diversity unit, told a conference on tackling terrorism that it was important to stop Scottish Muslims feeling “vulnerable” in case they were driven towards radicalism.

Mr. Galbraith said the force encouraged officers to consider the religious or ethnic backgrounds of victims to assess their needs in dealing with hate crimes.

He said that both an attack and a perceived lack of action by police could turn Islamic youths into future terrorists.

Mr. Galbraith also revealed that police officers, Special Branch and BAA security staff were being given special lessons about Islamic culture after Muslims complained that being questioned when entering the country about whether they pray and attend mosques was offensive to their faith. Malmö Police Ordered Not to Interfere With Muslims

Police
Dhimmi Police (Photoshop by KGS)
By Baron Bodissey

I reported last month about the aggressive and threatening counter-demonstration to a pro-Israel rally that took place in Malmö in southern Sweden. The (mostly Muslim) counter-demonstrators threw rocks, bottles, and fireworks at the peaceful pro-Israel demonstrators, while the police did nothing significant to try to stop them.

Now Ted Ekeroth reports that the manifest indifference of law enforcement to multicultural violence was no accident - the police were under orders not to interfere.

According to the newspaper SkÃ¥nska Dagbladet, a police officer says that the police assigned to the rally were ordered not to do anything against the pro-Arab mob, no matter how aggressive they became. He said, “There were no plans to intervene against the counter-demonstrators. The only area to be evacuated if there was a situation was the area where the pro-Israeli rally had been given in front of the Town Hall.” Read more ...
