WAAY-TV pulls ad about Griffith's 'Islam' remark

A local TV station has pulled the latest National Republican Congressional Committee ad in the 5th Congressional District campaign, apparently because of disputes over Democratic candidate Parker Griffith's statements about "radical Islam," according to an NRCC spokesman.

WAAY-TV Channel 31 did not air the ad, which features black-and-white footage of several terrorist bombings and the Sept. 11 attacks before airing audio of Griffith saying, "We have nothing to fear from radical Islam."

NRCC spokesman Brendan Buck said the station told him that some of Griffith's words were taken out of context.

Station mangers at WAAY-TV Channel 31 did not return phone messages left Friday afternoon.

Buck said the NRCC is working with the station to clear up any misunderstandings and hopes to have to the ad back on the air early next week. Read more ...

Former Southwest Michigan Congressman Mark Siljander to stand trial in 2009

KANSAS CITY -- A date in 2009 has been set for former Southwest Michigan Congressman Mark Siljander to stand trial on charges in connection with an alleged international terrorism ring.

U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey, of the Western District of Missouri, signed an order last month setting a trial date of Nov. 2, 2009, for Siljander and other defendants in the case involving the Islamic American Relief Agency.

Siljander was indicated in January on charges of money laundering, conspiracy and obstruction of justice. The government alleges the agency used stolen money to pay Siljander for lobbying efforts and that Siljander lied to federal investigators.

Prosecutors say the organization aided a terrorist with ties to al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

Siljander has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer has said Siljander "vehemently denies" the charges.

Siljander, 57, formerly of St. Joseph County, represented portions of Southwest Michigan in the old 4th Congressional District from 1981-87. He now lives in Great Falls, Va.

Tom Campbell: Will Republicans Stop a Pan-Jihadist from Becoming California's Next Governor?

Republicans always claim the mantle of the anti-Jihadists. And for the most part, they are.

But when a supporter of jihad and terrorism comes to the midst of the G.O.P., that anti-jihadist/counterterrorist mantle comes crashing down. The Republican Party simply refuses to denounce pan-Islamists in its midst I've detailed that repeatedly on this site, from Michigan and Ohio GOP officials hanging out with and praising CAIR to pan-Islamist Grover Norquist's puppetmaster machinations at the Bush White House.

Now, the G.O.P. has an interesting opportunity to finally show it means business against terrorism . . . in the California gubernatorial race. Since Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is term-limited and elections for the new guy are being held in November 2010, some candidates are already setting up shop.

On the G.O.P. side, one of those is the notorious former Congressman Tom Campbell. Saturday's Wall Street Journal reports that Campbell stepped down as Dean of the business school at U.C.-Berkeley and launched an exploratory committee. Sadly, this will go beyond mere "exploration." Forty-eight-year-old Rima Barakat-Sinclair has been a resident of Denver since 1987. Never having held political office before, she is currently running as a Republican for a State House seat in Colorado’s Sixth District, which is heavily Democratic and features the largest per capita Jewish population in the state. With the self-identified aim of working “for better understanding among peoples of different backgrounds,” Barakat-Sinclair has participated in numerous “interfaith dialogues” to promote “more tolerance” and create “a stronger united America.” She pledges undying allegiance to such ideals as “upholding the Constitution,” defending “individual freedom,” promoting “small government,” enacting “prudent tax and spending policies,” “investing in our children,” guaranteeing “freedom of religion,” and recognizing “the sanctity of human life.”

Oh, and by the way, she is a Muslim activist who considers Israel to be a nation of bloodthirsty monsters who indiscriminately murder innocent Palestinian women and children for no reason other than to satisfy their own beastly compulsions. Read more ...

Grover Norquist: Conservative Exposed as Terrorist Sympathizer/Enabler

There's an incredible story brewing in Washington that is too hot for the networks to touch.

Grover Norquist, whom most conservatives know as Executive Director of the College Republicans, boardmember of the NRA, and head of Americans for Tax Reform, has been exposed as helping Muslim groups and individuals who finance and support Islamic terrorism gain access to the Bush White House.

Norquist has also been exposed as the founder of the Islamic Insitute, a group believed to be funded by foreign governments, Wahhab Islam elements in Saudi Arabia, and U.S. Muslim groups recently raided by a special Treasury Department task force for funding Al Qaeda and Palestinian terrorists. The Islamic Institute's website lists the following goals:

1. Cultivate and expand Muslim activists and mobilize the community at the state and federal levels on issues affecting the American Muslim community.

2. Provide a platform to promote an Islamic perspective on domestic issues (social and fiscal) to help enhance the Muslim community's input in the decision-making process.

3. Run aggressive campaigns at the state and federal levels on issues affecting the American Muslim community. Read more ...
