By Jamie Glazov Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Dave Gaubatz, the first U.S. civilian (1811) Federal Agent deployed to Iraq in 2003. He is the owner of DG Counter-terrorism Publishing. He is currently conducting a 50 State Counter-terrorism Research Tour (CTRT). He can be contacted at davegaubatz@gmail.com. FP: Dave Gaubatz, welcome back to Frontpage Interview. Just recently, Representative Frank Wolf stated he does not believe the FBI has completely answered his questions in regards to their relationship with CAIR. In terms of the evidence you have gathered, is the FBI intentionally misleading not only Rep. Wolf, but the American public, and if so, why? Gaubatz: Yes Jamie, FBI officials are intentionally misleading Rep. Wolf and I have first-hand evidence of this. I will go one step further and state that the FBI and U.S. State Department have had very close and inappropriate relationships with CAIR and continue to maintain a “tight relationship.” FP: What do you mean exactly? A war of words between U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) escalated Friday when Wolf took to the House floor and spent more than 40 minutes detailing CAIR's ties to terrorists and its habit of attacking critics as Islamophobes. It started after Wolf wrote to the FBI Feb. 2 seeking more details about the Bureau's decision to cut off contact with CAIR based upon evidence brought forth in the terror-support trial against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. Wolf wanted confirmation that the policy was, in fact, in place, and whether it was subject to change. He also asked about the depth of financial support CAIR received from foreign sources. After receiving a very general response, Wolf followed up with a second letter demanding more specifics. That prompted CAIR to issue a statement accusing the congressman of having "abused his power." Wolf's inquiries, CAIR claimed, were in retribution for the organization's opposition to Wolf's policies and statements. Since then, the FBI has offered details, explaining that the HLF evidence left officials unsure whether CAIR "continues" to have a connection to the terrorist group Hamas. Until that is resolved, the Bureau "does not view CAIR as an appropriate liaison partner." Read more ...Source: IPT News
A Virginia Congressman wants President Obama to declassify and release publicly all information about a group of Chinese Uyghurs who have been held at the Guantanamo Bay detention center for more than seven years, but who may be released soon and allowed into the U.S. In a letter dated Friday, U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) wrote of "grave concerns" he had about the possible release of the Uyghurs, who were detained after being captured in an Afghan training camp. Last fall, an appeals court blocked a lower court order that would have prompted the men's release and admission to into America. While the administration has made no formal decision, news reports indicate some of the 17 Uyghurs who have been in Guantanamo could be sent to America, perhaps to Virginia suburbs that have a Uyghur community. Before that happens, Wolf wrote, the public deserves a full accounting of the men's background: "Information I have received indicates that the Uyghurs may be more dangerous than the public has been led to believe. I write today asking that you declassify all intelligence regarding their capture, detention, and your administration's assessment of the threat they may post to Americans, prior to any decision to release them. The American people deserve to have all the facts about these individuals before they should be expected to tolerate their presence in our communities." Wolf also wants the Administration to explain how it will monitor the Uyghurs once they were released, something he called a "moral obligation" for the Administration: "The American people cannot afford to simply take your word that these detainees, who were captured training in terrorist camps, are not a threat if released into our communities." The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has accused a Virginia member of the U.S. House of Representatives of abusing his office by contacting the FBI seeking further information about CAIR. According to a Fox News report: Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., sent the letter on Feb. 2 after FOXNews.com report that the bureau had severed ties with the Council on American-Islamic Relations amid mounting evidence that the group was linked to a support network for Hamas. The FBI severed its ties with all local chapters of CAIR after a 15-year investigation culminated with the conviction in December of Hamas fund-raisers. CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the case. Wolf reached out to the FBI’s assistant director for counterterrorism to find out whether the bureau still had any contact with the group it called a front for Islamic radicals, and whether CAIR was receiving funds from foreign sources. After waiting more than a month, Wolf said, the only response he got was a four-paragraph letter from the FBI’s head of public relations. Read more ... The FBI severs its relationship with a group due to its ties to Hamas. Though it touts itself as "America's largest Islamic civil liberties and advocacy group," an FBI agent has testified that the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is a Hamas front. A ranking member of Congress asks the Bureau for more information. He viewed the response he got back as incomplete and he pointedly asks the FBI to try again, mentioning his role on a congressional committee responsible for FBI budgets. CAIR - frozen out by the FBI since last summer - issued a statement Thursday, accusing the congressman, Virginia Republican Frank Wolf, of having "abused his power." His hard line, the statement says, is an act out of vengeance because CAIR has disagreed with some of Wolf's policies and statements. Wolf is in his 15th term and has been re-elected easily. CAIR's disagreements with him have done little to slow his work. But the statement still tries to deflect attention from bad news for CAIR about the FBI cut-off first reported in late January by the Investigative Project on Terrorism. WASHINGTON (JTA) -- A congressman urged the State Department to investigate the content of textbooks at a Virginia Islamic Academy.
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) wrote the department for the seventh time, but for the first time since Hillary Clinton became secretary of state, to ask that the department convene an independent panel to "definitively translate and interpret the textbooks and determine exactly what is being taught" at the Islamic Saudi Academy in Northern Virginia.
Wolf said in the letter that he was spurred by an Associated Press story on Thursday that stated that while the schools' textbooks had been revised last year, they still contained enough "sensitive material to fuel critics who claime the books show intolerance toward those who do not follow strict interpretation toward Islam."
The school, which educates 900 students, overhauled their textbooks after the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom issued a report stating that there were a number of problematic passages, including one saying "the Jews conspired against Islam and its people."
The new books remove those passages, but according to the AP still disparage Jewish and Christian scholars for rejecting "the true path of Islam" and warn Muslims to be careful in accepting party and wedding invitations from non-Muslims.
"The State Department has a role to play in this controversy and needs to help resolve the issue," Wolf said. "If there is still a problem, let’s address it. If not, let’s report that, too. The bottom line is there needs to be resolution to this issue. It’s time to settle this.” Source: JTAH/T: Weasel ZippersHon. Frank R. Wolf Latest recipient of The MASH Award
By Steve Emerson A U.S. Congressman who serves on a committee controlling the FBI's budget is blasting the Bureau's response to a set of questions regarding an FBI freeze on contacts with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The Investigative Project on Terrorism reported January 29th that evidence tying CAIR and its founders to a U.S.-based Hamas support network prompted the Bureau to sever routine outreach meetings with the organization. That evidence was part of the government's prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, which ended in November with the conviction of five former officials on 108 counts. "[I]f CAIR wishes to pursue an outreach relationship with the FBI, certain issues must be addressed to the satisfaction of the FBI. Unfortunately, these issues cannot be addressed at the local level and must be addressed by the CAIR National Office in Washington, D.C.," an October letter from Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge James E. Finch said. Similar letters were issued in other states. Read more ...Source: Family Security MattersHon. Frank Wolf Latest recipient of The MASH Award
In an update to our story disclosing that the FBI has cut off contacts with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf has written to the FBI trying to learn more. Wolf (R-Va.), asked for verification that the FBI has severed CAIR's access and whether that decision was being reconsidered by the new administration: "If so," Wolf wrote, "what new evidence would justify a change in course?" He also asked for more information about the "certain issues" FBI spokesman John Miller has said CAIR officials must address before access is restored. Miller's language matches an October letter obtained by the IPT that was sent by the FBI's Oklahoma City field office postponing an outreach program with area Muslim groups due to CAIR's involvement. CAIR is an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Hamas-support case against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development that ended in convictions on 108 counts last November. It is listed on internal records of a "Palestine Committee" created by the Muslim Brotherhood to help Hamas politically and financially in the United States. The FBI's case agent testified that CAIR was a front group. In addition, CAIR founders Omar Ahmad and Nihad Awad participated in a secret 1993 meeting organized by Hamas supporters to discuss ways to "derail" U.S. peace efforts between the Israelis and Palestinians. Both men are listed on a telephone roster of Palestine Committee members. Wolf addressed his questions to Michael Heimbach, an assistant director for the Counter Terrorism Division. U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) is nothing if not tenacious. He sent five letters to the State Department and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice during the last 15 months of the Bush Administration expressing his concern about intolerance and extremism in Saudi Arabian textbooks, especially those being used at the Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA) in Alexandria, Va. An analysis by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) concluded that, despite promise to remove references to offending passages, the books still teach that "Jews conspired against Islam," that Sunni Muslims should shun all Shia Muslims and that killing an apostate or an adulterer is acceptable under Islamic law. Now there's a new team at the State Department and Wolf has written to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urging her to act. He told Clinton his past overtures resulted only in "vague assurances on the part of the State Department and the school that the curriculum has been reformed. But these assurances are insufficient, particularly when they are utterly at odds with USCIRF's findings, and may be indicative of a wider problem-namely the status of Saudi commitments made in 2006 to conduct ‘a comprehensive revision of textbooks and educational curricula to weed out disparaging remarks.'" A resolution is needed, even if it turns out the matter has been resolved quietly, Wolf wrote: "If the students at ISA are not being taught or exposed to texts that incite hatred and intolerance of other people and faiths, then in all fairness to them and those associated with the academy, concerns should be put to rest. If, however, the content of the textbooks is consistent with USCIRF's findings, then action is required." Saudi Arabia was among the largest donors to former President Bill Clinton's charity foundation, Wolf notes. If Secretary of State Clinton wants to show those donations will not affect her decisions as the nation's top diplomat, Wolf writes, demanding answers from the ISA would be a good start. Financial giant AIG's decision to offer a shariah-compliant insurance program is drawing heat in court and on Capitol Hill. AIG is operating today with help from a $40 billion taxpayer bailout. According to the Insurance Journal, an AIG subsidiary's shariah-compliant homeowner's insurance plan is the first of "a series of Shari'ah-compliant (Takaful) product offerings in the U.S." Companies involved in entertainment, alcohol and pork would not be eligible for investment from program funds. In a letter dated Thursday to AIG board chairman Edward Liddy, U.S. Reps. Sue Myrick (R-NC) and Frank Wolf (R-VA) note that, for all its seeming appeal, shariah financing is used by terrorist groups from Al Qaida to Hamas to route money because it is difficult to track its flow. Calling the American people "de facto stockholders in your company," the two members of Congress bluntly warned AIG to be careful if it should continue its Shariah plan. U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) apparently isn't one to take no for an answer. Or, one to take no answer for an answer for that matter. On Tuesday, Wolf wrote his third letter to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice demanding she take aggressive action to determine whether textbooks at a Saudi-run school in Virginia teach extremism and intolerance, including a book which states the killing an apostate or an adulterer is acceptable under Islamic law. Wolf first wrote to Rice June 24, citing a new report from the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and asking that the State Department translate a collection of textbooks from the Islamic Saudi Academy that it has to assess their content. "The State Department is not doing its duty," he handwrote next to his signature. Receiving no response, he wrote again on July 14 noting the new school year was approaching and answers were needed before that. Wolf and the USCIRF argue that the State Department has authority to investigate the ISA, because the school is funded by the Saudi Arabian embassy. The Saudi ambassador to Washington leads the school's board of directors. Read more ...Source: IPT BlogHon. Frank R. Wolf Latest recipient of The MASH Award
Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, center, is seen with Georgetown president John J. DeGioia and John Esposito in this 2005 photograph. The prince gave Esposito's Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding $20 million.By Steven Emerson A U.S. congressman is asking Georgetown University about its academic scrutiny of Saudi Arabia and its use of $20 million donated by a Saudi prince in 2005. U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) wrote to Georgetown President John DeGioia Thursday, saying he was concerned about how the money was being spent at the university's Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. Of particular concern, Wolf said, was the university's role in training current and prospective U.S. foreign service personnel. "The Saudi government continues to permit textbooks to contain inflammatory language about other religions," Wolf wrote. "Restrictions on civil society and political activists continue to be pervasive. No changes have been made to the underlying legal authority relating to non-Muslim worship that the Saudis have relied on to enforce these rules. The Saudis have cleansed their own country of religious liberties by severely restricting public religious expression to their interpretation and enforcement of wahhabism." Wolf's letter seeks assurances the Georgetown center "maintains the impartiality and integrity of scholarship that befits so distinguished a university as Georgetown." Read more ... Source: IPT News
