Muzzammil Hasan: Islamic supremacist wuss. Note the typical Islamic supremacist shifting of blame and responsibility to the victim. This was mentioned in this post, but this story highlights it, and it is worth highlighting this absurdity: "NY man accused of beheading claims he was battered," by Carolyn Thompson for The Associated Press, January 22 BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The founder of an Islam-oriented television station who is accused of beheading his wife was abused by her for years, according to his lawyer, who said Friday he will pursue a defense combining that justification as well as psychiatric claims. Defense attorneys' claims that Muzzammil Hassan was victimized by his wife drew a blunt response from District Attorney Frank Sedita after a hearing Friday. "He chopped her head off," Sedita said. "He chopped her head off. That's all I have to say about Mr. Hassan's apparent defense that he was a battered spouse."... "The spouse was the dominant figure in this relationship," attorney Frank Bogulski said outside the courtroom. "He was the victim. She was verbally abusive. She had humiliated him." Nancy Sanders, a former news director at Bridges TV, was skeptical of the abuse claim, noting the stocky Hassan stood over 6 feet tall and "filled a doorway," while Aasiya was slender and several inches shorter. "I never ever heard her disparage him in the workplace at all," Sanders said. "It just did not seem to be in her nature. She was very gentle."... A comment at the Houston Chronicle's posting of this AP story sums up Hassan's defense: "I heard that even to the end the wife was abusing him. For example, the bones in her neck gave him some bad scratches while he was hacking her head off." With thanks to JihadWatch
"A trustworthy source to the two million-plus population of Muslims in the UK" gave a platform to the bloodthirsty jihadism and hatred of al-Awlaki. The only ones who should be surprised by this are those who really believe that Islam is a Religion of Peace™. "UK Muslim TV channel linked to al-Qaida cleric al-Awlaki: Satellite broadcaster the Islam Channel denies giving a platform to jihadist extremist," by Jamie Doward for The Observer, January 10 A London-based satellite broadcaster that describes itself as "the voice of authority for Muslims in the UK" has been accused of giving a platform to Anwar al-Awlaki, the extremist cleric with alleged links to al-Qaida and to the man charged with trying to blow up a transatlantic jet on Christmas Day. The Islam Channel, a free-to-air English-language channel that claims to be "a trustworthy source to the two million-plus population of Muslims in the UK", last year carried adverts for a box set of DVDs of Awlaki's sermons and for at least two events at which the cleric was due to be the star speaker via a video link. The channel's website has allowed visitors to click through to a pooled archive of Islamic scholars, from which they can download sermons by Awlaki, including "Stop Police Terror", "Brutality Towards Muslims" and "It's a War against Islam". Islamic scholars have expressed concern.
"Anwar al-Awlaki is asking all Muslims to unite against the west as Muslims," said Dr Irfan al-Alawi of the Centre for Islamic Pluralism. "He supports jihad to ensnare all naive, young people who get emotionally attached and go on jihadist tirades." US intelligence agencies claim Awlaki is a key member of al-Qaida. Last week John Brennan, the US deputy national security adviser, said there were "indications" there had been direct contact between Awlaki and Umar Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old former University College London student charged with trying to set off a bomb on a flight bound for Detroit on Christmas Day. Awlaki has also been linked to an attack by a US army major, Nidal Malik Hasan, last November, in which 13 people died. "Mr Awlaki is a problem," Brennan said. "He's clearly a part of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. He's not just a cleric. He is trying to instigate terrorism."... Leading British Muslim organisations, including the Islamic Society of Britain, have promoted Awlaki's lectures in the past, but now condemn his views.... Gee, what made them change their mind? The channel's chief executive officer, Mohamed Ali Harrath, has been on an Interpol wanted list since 1992, after his native Tunisia accused him of attempting to create "an Islamic state by means of armed revolutionary violence". Harrath denies the charges. A spokeswoman for the channel said it had been unaware its website had provided links to Awlaki's sermons. She said the sermons were in an online archive shared with many websites. "Islam Channel has not at any time given a platform to Mr Awlaki," she said. The channel has now removed the link.... But if Obama gives them a state, there will dawn a new era of peace! "Hamas video: Settlers drink Palestinians' blood," by Ali Waked for Ynet News, January 3 VIDEO - In the backdrop of reconciliation efforts between Hamas and Fatah, Hamas' television aired a cartoon titled "Special Mission" slandering the Palestinian Authority apparatuses, which, according to the clip, serve Israel and the settlers. The video portrays a Palestinian officer carrying out orders of IDF troops while being humiliated by them, and assitsting [sic] settlers. The eight-minute video takes place near the security coordination HQ. Palestinian officer Bahlul (clown) is shown to be asked by his Israeli counterpart: "What is your mission?" to which he replies: "To defend the rule of law." When the Israeli officer asks what that is, the Palestinian replies: "To defend settlers." He also notes that settler provocations will not be disturbed or responded to by the Palestinians when asked how he would react in such a case. The video portrays Bahlul as saying that should he get an order from his Israeli colleague to arrest his family members he would do it. He notes that he is willing to fight the resistance and even shine the shoes of the Israeli officer and as a bonus to kiss them as well. "I'll divorce my wife if you tell me to," he said. The Palestinian officer is also seen trying to defend an Israeli settler who shot Palestinian children in Hebron. He shouts at the settler "you just killed my people, but I will respond with a commitment to peace." At this point in the clip, Bahlul draws a dove and presents it to the settler who had went on a killing spree by his father's orders. According to the setller's father "the most delicious thing is to kill Palestinians and drink their blood."... To see the video, go here. With thanks to JihadWatch

How lovely Oprah and Katie will look. Sharia Alert from the Kingdom of the Two Holy Places: "Saudi TV presenters break new ground by wearing niqab," by Amani Fikri for the BBC Arabic Service, December 9 Until recently you would never have seen women presenting television programmes dressed from head to toe in the niqab or burqa.
But on the Saudi religious channel Awtan TV it has now become the norm. Female broadcasters at the station are draped in the all-enveloping dresses, which are usually black and also cover their faces. The work environment too is very different. Male technical assistants do not enter the studio while the women are presenting. There are more than 60 religious channels across the Middle East. Some allow women to present programmes without being fully covered or dressed in black. Others have no women presenters at all. Relationship Awtan TV decided to take a unique approach. The station was launched in 2008, and last month it set a precedent by allowing women to present, but only on the condition that they wear the niqab.... With thanks to JihadWatch
The US House of Representatives Tuesday adopted a bill asking the US president to report to Congress on incitement to anti-American violence on television networks in the Middle East. Lawmakers adopted the measure in a decisive 395-3 vote. The bill asks the US president to report, six months after the text has passed, "on anti-American incitement to violence in the Middle East, and for other purposes." "For years, media outlets in the Middle East have repeatedly published or broadcast incitements to violence against the United States and Americans," the bill read. "Given the dangers such incitement poses to American soldiers and civilians in the ... region and at home, it is long past time for the US and other responsible nations to stop this growing threat," said Republican Gus Bilirakis, author of the bill. It calls for punitive measures for networks deemed to be fueling terror. Among the networks mentioned are al-Aqsa, Hamas' television station, which broadcasts from Gaza, and Hezbollah's al-Manar. The US Senate has yet to weigh in on the issue. YNet
Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah slammed on Friday two Arab satellite providers for dropping a television channel from predominantly Shiite Iran as a "violation of freedom of speech and opinion." "Hezbollah condemns Arabsat and Nilesat's decision to stop broadcasting the channel Al-Alam, a decision made on political grounds," the terror group said in a statement about the Arabic-language channel. "Hezbollah declares its solidarity with the channel and considers this a violation of freedom of speech and opinion," the statement said. Arabsat and Egyptian Nilesat this week stopped broadcasting Al-Alam on the grounds it was in breach of contract, the press reported. But Al-Alam's Beirut bureau chief, Atef Moussawi, said the decision was as punishment for the channel supporting Hezbollah. "Al-Alam is paying the price for its support of the resistance in Lebanon and Palestine," Moussawi said in a television interview. Iran, along with ally Syria, is a major backer of Hezbollah.
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia's king waived a flogging sentence on a female journalist charged for involvement in a risque TV show, the second such pardoning of such a high profile case by the monarch in recent years. King Abdullah's decision to waive 22-year-old journalist Rozanna al-Yami's sentence of 60 lashes by a judge in Jiddah follows intense international media attention. The journalist was charged with helping coordinate a talk show on a Lebanese channel featuring a Saudi man describing what appeared to be his active sex life. Though the charges against her were dropped, the judge ordered the flogging as a "deterent" al-Yami said. In November 2007, the king waived a flogging sentence of 90 lashes against a rape victim for being alone in a car with an unrelated man shortly before the two were attacked. The case also evoked international outrage over the Saudi judiciary. On Monday, Information Ministry spokesman Abdul-Rahman al-Hazza told The Associated Press that the king waived the sentence and ordered al-Yami's case and that of another journalist — a pregnant woman also accused of involvement in the program — be referred to a committee in the ministry. Al-Hazza said the king made his decision after he was briefed by Information Minister Abdel Aziz Khoja. The committee, which usually has a Justice Ministry representative but no judges sitting on it, deals with media-related violations, al-Hazza said. Al-Yami, 22, worked as a coordinator for the program but has denied involvement in the sex-related episode. The case started in July, when the Lebanese LBC satellite channel aired the sex talk episode as part of its program entitled "Bold Red Line." In the episode, a divorced Saudi father of four who works for the national airline, Mazen Abdul-Jawad, appears to describe an active sex life and shows sex toys that were blurred by the station in the footage shown on TV. The government moved swiftly in the wake of the case, shutting down LBC's two offices in the kingdom and arresting Abdul-Jawad. The same judge at the Jiddah court also sentenced Abdul-Jawad earlier this month to five years in jail and 1,000 lashes. Three other men who appeared on the show were also convicted of discussing sex publicly and sentenced to two years imprisonment and 300 lashes each. The man's lawyer, Sulaiman al-Jumeii, maintains his client was duped by the TV station and was unaware in many cases he was being recorded. On Monday, he urged Khoja to intercede with the king to include all those involved in the case under the same Information Ministry committee. "They are being tried by a court that is not specialized in this issue and has not even summoned LBC or watched the raw film," he said in a statement. "Justice should not be divided as long as it is one case," he added. Source: Foxnews
AMMAN, Jordan — A fiery critic of the Jordanian government says he was badly beaten by five unarmed men hours after he condemned the country's peace treaty with Israel. Leith Shubeilat was hospitalized with cuts and bruises to the face, head and body, but says that he was "conscious and doing well." In the past, government critics have said they were attacked by plainclothes agents, but the state has denied any involvement. Shubeilat said Sunday's early morning attack followed a televised interview he gave to an Arab satellite channel, in which he accused the government of corruption and repeated his call for ending the peace treaty with Israel. Jordan marks the 15th anniversary of its peace treaty with Israel on Monday. Source: FoxNews
A Saudi court on Saturday convicted a female journalist for her involvement in a TV show, in which a Saudi man publicly talked about sex, and sentenced her to 60 lashes. Rozanna al-Yami is believed to be the first Saudi woman journalist to be given such a punishment.
The charges against her included involvement in the preparation of the program and advertising the segment on the Internet. Abdul-Rahman al-Hazza, the spokesman of the Ministry of Culture and Information, told The Associated Press he had no details of the sentencing and could not comment on it. In the program, which aired in July on the Lebanese LBC satellite channel, Mazen Abdul-Jawad appears to describe an active sex life and shows sex toys that were blurred by the station. The same court sentenced Abdul-Jawad earlier this month to five years in jail and 1,000 lashes. The man's lawyer, Sulaiman al-Jumeii, maintains his client was duped by the TV station and was unaware in many cases he was being recorded. On Saturday, he told the AP that not trying his client or al-Yami before a court specialized in media matters at the Ministry of Culture and Information was a violation of Saudi law. "It is a precedent to try a journalist before a summary court for an issue that concerns the nature of his job," he said. The case has scandalized this ultraconservative country where such public talk about sex is taboo and the sexes are strictly segregated. The government moved swiftly in the wake of the case, shutting down LBC's two offices in the kingdom and arresting Abdul-Jawad, who works for the national airline. Three other men who appeared on the show, "Bold Red Line," were also convicted of discussing sex publicly and sentenced to two years imprisonment and 300 lashes each. Source: YNet
September 02, At least American media owners have nothing more to worry about than the governmental concept of a "Fairness Doctrine" being imposed that could censor their content, subject them to high taxes and limit their actions. A professor of Islamic law in Saudi Arabia says owners of television stations there should be tried under Islamic law and then executed for spreading "poison" in society. The comments were documented by the Middle East Media Research Institute, which has posted an online video of the interview. (It requires registration to view) The report said the condemnation comes from Saudi University Professor Yousuf Al-Ahmad. He was interviewed on Daleel TV on Aug. 8. The interviewer raised the issue of a previous Islamic fatwa against owners of several Arab television stations over their programming decisions. "I believe that one of our problems is that we continue to bury our heads in the sand, and talk about 'Lebanese' TV channels, as if we are being honest. Take LBC, for example. We all know who owns it. We should say to [the owner] Al-Walid bin Talal: Beware. The same is true of MBC TV, Al-Arabiya TV, the ART and Rotana channels - all these [Saudi] channels serve to destroy Islam and the Muslims," the transcript reported al-Ahmad stated. "Regarding these base channels that I have mentioned, and others like them – I have no doubt whatsoever that their danger to the Islamic nation is no less than that of the Zionist Jews, or of the Crusader Americans in Iraq and elsewhere," he continued. "In my view, the deadly poison that they are spreading has reached the bone marrow," he continued. "The people who spread corruption in the land – whether highway robbers, drug dealers, or the owners of these TV channels, who are even more dangerous... These channels broadcast corruption and nudity. They are all people who spread corruption in the land, and they should be tried in an Islamic court of law and sentenced to death. This [fatwa] is clearly in accordance with Islamic law. There's no doubt about it." The professor said it's only right that people should be afraid of Islam. "Islam is lenient, but the infidel West trembles in fear of it. Allah has ordered us to prepare: 'Prepare for them what force and steeds of war you can, to cast fear in the hearts of Allah's enemies and of your own.' Our human nature may tell us that stoning is unacceptable, but this is a punishment decreed by Allah. If Allah decrees death – this is how it should be. If the Islamic scholars ruled that the punishment for drug dealers is death, this is how it should be. "I believe that [the TV channel owners] are more dangerous than all of these. Forget about whether or not they should be killed – we demand that they face trial in an Islamic court of law," he said. In the United States, there have been several moves toward re-imposing a "Fairness Doctrine" plan on media and the Internet. That was a requirement until the 1980s that broadcasters carry both "sides" of various political arguments. It was dropped under President Reagan and since then the size and impact of talk radio has exploded. Now administration officials have talked about new regulations that would force broadcasters to submit to various "diversity" requirements, such as minority representation or minority ownership, huge tax burdens and other regulations.
