It appeared to be a typical Al-Quds Day rally, replete with hateful speeches about the destruction of the State of Israel and the waving of Hizballah flags. The rally resembled other international versions of this year's Al-Quds Day celebration, an annual Islamist holiday initiated by Iranian revolutionary and terrorism exporter, Imam Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini. However, this event wasn't held in downtown Karachi or Damascus, but in downtown Washington, D.C's Sheridan Circle. The rally was organized by an employee of the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning, Faheem Darab. It even featured speakers as diverse as leaders from leftist organizations, a radical Reverend and homegrown American Islamists. The event was an expression of homegrown radicalism that sprouted from the seeds of a faraway revolution in Iran and was watered by local Jihadist sentiment. Participants were greeted at the event by the prominent yellow flags of Hizballah – a group designated by the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. In addition to this obvious display of support for a terrorist organization, the moderator of the event praised Imam Ayatollah Al-Khomeini, the initiator of Al-Quds Day and leader of the 1979 Iranian revolution. By Yoram Ettinger The idea that a Palestinian state can lead to enduring peace in the Middle East has become a diplomatic obsession for American policy makers. Bringing such a state into being has become the equivalent of finding the Holy Grail. In fact, however, a Palestinian state would not only fail to bring peace and stability to the region, but would make it an even more dangerous place than it already is. And ironically, given its adamant backing for a government that would have been led by Yasser Arafat and now would be headed by Abu Mazen, U.S. support for the creation of “Palestine,” which would immediately ally itself with and become a client of rivals and enemies of America such as Iran, would harm American, Israeli, and even Arab interests. The history of the PLO's Abu Mazen – who is hailed by the US administration as a peaceful leader – tells us something important about the likely character of a Palestinian state. As a graduate of Moscow University (Ph.D. thesis: Holocaust Denial) and a beneficiary of KGB training, he managed the logistics of the Munich Massacre of eleven Israeli athletes in 1972. He was the architect of PLO ties with ruthless communist regimes until 1989 and, since 1993, a series of PLO accords with Hamas. In 1950, 1966 and 1970, he was forced to flee Egypt, Syria and Jordan, respectively, for subversive activities. During the 1970s and 1980s he participated in PLO attempts to topple the Christian regime in Beirut, which resulted in the 1976 Syrian invasion of Lebanon and a series of civil wars, causing close to 200,000 deaths and hundreds of thousands of refugees. As Yasser Arafat’s confidante and first deputy for over fifty years until Arafat's death, Abu Mazen is one of the engineers of contemporary Palestinian hate education, which has become a production line for terrorists. In 1990, he collaborated with Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, despite the Gulf country’s unique hospitality to 400,000 PLO-affiliated Palestinians. Read more ...Source: FPM
By Bernard Kerik In 2005, Germany's high court ordered the release of a Syrian-born Mamoun Darkazani, who was being held in a German prison in connection with the 2003 Madrid bombings. He was also allegedly seen in a 1999 wedding video with two of the 9/11 suicidal attackers, Marwan al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah. Spanish authorities investigating al-Qaida, along with 41 other suspects, including Osama bin Laden, indicted Darkazani. He was released because a German federal court thought it would be illegal for him to be extradited against his will. A notorious Spanish terrorist, Inaki de Juana Chaos, a member of the Euskadi Ta Askatasuna terrorist group, or ETA, was sentenced to 3,000 years in prison for the murder of 25 people in the 1980s. He was released after 21 years, benefiting from a 1973 law that allowed reductions of sentences for good conduct. His good conduct in prison included making death threats to prison governors. In a letter written after one of the killings, he said of the victims: "Their tears are our smiles, and in the end we will roar with laughter." Read more ...Source: NewsMax
By Steven Plaut It is one of the oddities of the global war on terrorism that while al-Qaeda is almost universally condemned, its Sunni terrorist counterparts in Hamas continue to attract a devoted following. Former president Jimmy Carter annually sings Hamas’s praises, insisting to all who will listen that Western governments must reach out to Gaza’s jihadist rulers. At “peace” demonstrations and on college campuses, banners are waved in honor of the group openly sworn to the destruction of Israel and the extermination of Jews worldwide. All this and more is the subject of Steven Plaut’s devastating new pamphlet, “Hamas: The Terror Elite.” In a sweeping survey of Hamas’s bloody history, Plaut reveals that the terror group remains unwaveringly committed to its goal of carrying out a new genocide against Jews. Plaut also describes the little-mentioned reality that the self-described “legitimate” representative of the Palestinian people is also their most brutal tormentor. Terrorizing its own, Hamas tortures Gaza’s residents, forces them to live under oppressive Islamic law, and dispatches “vice squads” to deal with those who dare to defy its fanatical rule. It’s little wonder that Hamas has found its firmest allies in the mullahs of Iran and Osama Bin Laden’s terrorist shock troops. As Plaut’s pamphlet shows beyond any doubt, “Hamas and al-Qaeda are basically two sides of the same Jihad.” To read “Hamas: The Terror Elite,” please click here.Source: FPM
By Robert Spencer The Muslims who were arrested last week for plotting to blow up two Bronx synagogues and bring down an airplane have exposed yet again the virulence and ugliness of Islamic anti-Semitism. Said one plotter: “If Jews were killed in this attack ... that would be all right.” Plotter James “Abdul Rahman” Cromitie, a jailhouse convert to Islam, said: “I hate those mother-------, those f------ Jewish b------ .... I would like to get [destroy] a synagogue.” Muslim groups were quick to condemn the plot. Quick to issue statements were the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), and New York Muslim leaders. Fozia Khan of the American Muslim Women’s Association said: “We believe that violence has no place in our community and is in no way a part of the tenets of Islam. Unfortunately, incidents of this kind hamper our efforts to create harmonious relationships with other religious organizations within our community.” Since Fozia Khan’s holy book calls for warfare against Jews and Christians until they submit as inferiors to Islamic rule (Qur’an 9:29), and mandates the beheading of unbelievers (47:4), among many other belligerent passages, her assertion that violence “is in no way a part of the tenets of Islam” could bear some elucidation. None, however, was forthcoming from her. Khan complained: “In recent years, we as an organization have had to condemn far too many acts of violence committed in the name of Islam. We would like to stress that the people who commit these acts are misguided and confused and ignorant or unaware of Islam’s ideology of peace and tolerance.” So why not teach them? One might wonder why Muslim groups don’t become more proactive, and institute programs in mosques and Islamic schools in the West (as well as in the Islamic world) to teach Muslims why the views of Osama bin Laden et al are wrong, and how the true Islam eschews violence against and hatred of unbelievers. Yet CAIR, ISNA, MPAC and the rest have never instituted or even called for such a program. They are ready with the condemnations after arrests or explosions, but why wait passively? Why not act to head off jihadist activity by Muslims? MPAC said it was “outraged over the alleged plan of four men to carry out attacks against Jewish houses of worship in New York City.” MPAC Executive Director Salam Al-Marayati wrote to Jewish leaders of his “shock and dismay over reports that four Muslims planned to bomb synagogues in the New York City area. This criminal attitude is reprehensible and wretched.” In its statement MPAC reaffirmed “the position of condemning acts of violence against any faith group in the name of Islam.” Strong words, good words. In fact, MPAC has been saying this sort of thing for years -- making it even odder that their “counterterror” guidelines appear to be more concerned about misbehavior by non-Muslim law enforcement officials in mosques than about the possibility of terrorist activity in those mosques. ISNA, which has admitted its ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, condemned the plots also. The Brotherhood is waging, in its own words, “a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.” ISNA’s statement complained that “several media reports referred to the suspects as Muslim. ISNA rejects the association of Islam with such criminality, hatred and bigotry.” Read more ...Source: FrontPage Magazine
By Anav Silverman In recent years, billions of dollars have poured into Gaza from hundreds of countries and international organizations. How much of that money has actually reached Palestinian civilians, effectively improving their quality of life and economy, has yet to be completely determined thanks to vague audits and on-line information. Only recently, with a relatively silent international press, have there been questions from top political leaders, primarily from US, about the way in which the donor money will be transferred into Gaza. At an Egyptian donor’s conference organized by Norway and Egypt in early March, more than 75 international donors and organizations met to announce their financial support of the reconstruction in Gaza. Over $5.2 billion were pledged at the conference, surprising the Palestinian Authority who originally called for $2.8 billion needed to build-up Gaza. By Walid Phares The British government’s announcement to open a dialogue with “the political wing of Hizballah” is most troubling. In a statement to a parliamentary committee, Bill Rammell, the British foreign office’s minister for Middle East affairs, rationalized the decision on the grounds of what his office perceives to be “more positive developments within Lebanon.” This British declaration underscores a pervasive failure to properly understand the structure of the Iranian-backed terrorist organization. At worst, the call to distinguish between the group's political and military wings (in terms of decision-making) may be driven by a desire to construct imaginary facts for diplomatic and political purposes. Are officials selling a false image of what Hizballah is so that they join the foray of the “sitting, talking and listening” with Iran and Syria's regimes now underway? Very possible. But it would have been much better to inform the public that the government intends to talk to a terrorist organization for purpose of national interest, rather than claiming the talks are only with the political wing. Eight years after 9/11 and the subsequent attacks worldwide, citizens are much better informed about jihadi organizations than they were in the 1990s. Officials in the UK and the US must realize that claiming there are two Hizballah(s) will not fly with most of the public. By Kathy Shaidle The Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan once was a popular tourist destination. Now it is Taliban-controlled territory, where beheadings are commonplace and schools for girls are regularly burned down. And the situation is about to deteriorate further. In exchange for what will likely be only a temporary peace, the Pakistani government has agreed to allow the Taliban to enforce Muslim Sharia law in Swat. Pakistan insists that the agreement is conditional on the Taliban ceasing all terrorism, but the move is already being hailed as a victory by the militants. “Our whole struggle is for the enforcement of Shariah law,” Swat Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said. “If this really brings us the implementation of Shariah, we will fully cooperate with it.” The Taliban has thus gotten exactly what it wanted, without having to give up anything in return. That’s precisely why international reaction to the latest agreement has been almost universally negative. Iqbal Haider from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan accuses the Pakistan government of capitulating to the Taliban which, while greatly outnumbered, nevertheless managed to wrest control of the Swat Valley after a year of fighting. “We are appalled by such an appeasement of extremist and militant forces who are hell-bent upon destroying Pakistan and conquering Pakistan,” said Haider. By Amil Imani As the Islamic Revolution completed its third decade, it would not be too difficult to realize the reality and the fruits of its mismanagement during its imperial and revolutionary eras. Throughout the three decades of its existence, the Islamic Republic has managed, notably, to produce more hunger, extreme frustration and anger, prostitution at a record pace, drug addiction beyond control, child execution without any regard to the international human rights bylaws. There are many reports regarding cases of child sexual abuse and molestation reaching epidemic proportions. Prosecution and imprisonment of the innocent people and systematic and illegal abuse of detainees and hundreds of gruesome acts have been reported. Read more ...Source: American ThinkerH/T: Gramfan
By Melanie Phillips If anyone had doubted the extent to which Britain has capitulated to Islamic terror, the banning of Geert Wilders a few hours ago should surely open their eyes. Wilders, the Dutch member of parliament who had made an uncompromising stand against the Koranic sources of Islamist extremism and violence, was due to give a screening of Fitna, his film on this subject, at the House of Lords on Thursday. This meeting had been postponed after Lord Ahmed had previously threatened the House of Lords authorities that he would bring a force of 10,000 Muslims to lay siege to the Lords if Wilders was allowed to speak. To their credit, the Lords authorities had stood firm and said extra police would be drafted in to meet this threat and the Wilders meeting should go ahead. Read more ...Source: Spectator
By Abdul Rahman Al-Rashed Seven years ago, many writers and journalists in our region defended and condoned the destructive attacks launched by Al-Qaeda, and in the process considered any criticism of the terrorist network to be in support of US foreign policy, without distinguishing between rational defense and political exploitation. These writers were unaware of the fact that the Al-Qaeda organization was a greater threat to them then to any foreign entity. Shortly afterwards, the Jihadist group showed its true colors in Riyadh, Dammam, Mecca, Medina, Sana'a and Amman. History repeated itself in wake of the US invasion of Iraq, when our writers confused the rejection of occupation- a logical and justified political stance- with the praising of suicide attacks. They celebrated these attacks, describing them as acts of martyrdom. As a result, thousands of Saudis and other Arabs took up arms and traveled to As-Samawah, Al-Anbar and Baghdad. However, many of them on their way there fell into the hands of hostile Arab intelligence units, who ended up using them to serve their own interests. Again, the same confusion took place during Israel's war against Hezbollah, and more recently, in its offensive against Hamas. Mosques, newspaper columns and discussion forums, all mobilized in an effort to Sharpen and revive the Islamic Jihad spirit, in what could be described as a recurring mix-up between the natural rejection of the Israeli onslaught and the involvement in a political camp run by Iran, which uses the Palestinian and Arab Cause to achieve its goals. By Joe Kaufman Both the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) present themselves as mainstream Muslim organizations, yet in reality they are part of a radical Muslim movement which exists for the purpose of doing harm to America and Western interests abroad. Part of their success lies in getting people and organizations to endorse them and their operatives, thus providing them with a veil of legitimacy. Among their ‘validators’ are one of the most popular and influential evangelical preachers and the President himself. ISNA, said to be the largest Muslim organization in North America, has its roots in the extremist Muslim Brotherhood overseas, the same group responsible for the formation of Hamas and most other international terror entities. Given this bit of information, it is interesting that Ingrid Mattson, the President of ISNA, would be invited to speak at the National Prayer Service for the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama. While her words at the event were few and entirely innocuous, her mere presence was a profound challenge to America’s war on terrorism. Prior to Mattson speaking, an Associated Press story was released, entitled ‘Obama prayer leader from group US linked to Hamas.’ ISNA had recently been named by the U.S. Justice Department as a co-conspirator for a federal trial dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to the terror group. During the trial, proof was presented of ISNA’s relationship to a Brotherhood document calling for the destruction of the West. At the end of the trial, all of the defendants were found guilty on all charges. Only two weeks before the AP story came out, Hamas had called for attacks on Jews worldwide. By Joe Kaufman Sami Al-Arian has been in prison, away from his digs in the Tampa, Florida suburb of Temple Terrace, for over five years, yet one of the structures that he left behind continues to propagate the same fanatical ideology that led to his punishment. Al-Arian’s mosque, the Islamic Community of Tampa (ICT), has been proudly advertising hatred and violence meant for the eyes of children. The mosque’s connection to an area youth academy should have all Americans concerned. When Al-Arian arrived at the University of South Florida (USF) in 1986, his goals were a lot broader than just to provide a decent education to aspiring college students. From then till the time of his imprisonment, Al-Arian worked tirelessly to build a vast network of terror, whose goal was the destruction of Israel. Prior to his arrival, Al-Arian had helped to set up the Illinois-based Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), what soon would become known as the American propaganda wing of Hamas. When he came to Florida, it was as an operative for Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a group he helped to found in Egypt in 1979. His Tampa cell consisted of a think tank, a charity, a mosque and a children’s school. The former two no longer exist; the latter two this author wishes to expose. KABUL: French President Nicolas Sarkozy has arrived in Afghanistan, vowing to pursue France's mission after 10 of its troops died in the deadliest attack yet on international forces there.
Mr Sarkozy was flying in with his Defence Minister Herve Morin for a visit in which he was expected to meet some of the 21 French soldiers also wounded in the fighting this week, French officials said.
The French President was also likely to meet his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai before returning home.
Mr Sarkozy announced he would travel to Afghanistan as soon as the news broke yesterday of the fighting 50km east of the capital Kabul.
The visit was to show the troops that “France is at their side,” he said.
“In its struggle against terrorism, France has just been hard hit,” Mr Sarkozy said.
It was the deadliest attack on international forces fighting extremists in Afghanistan since the US-led war which ousted the hardline Taliban regime in 2001.
It was also the deadliest on French soldiers since a 1983 assault in Beirut in which 58 paratroopers were killed.
But Mr Sarkozy insisted France would not be deterred from its Afghan mission, for which it has 3000 soldiers serving in a NATO-led International Security Assistance Force of more than 40,000 troops from nearly 40 nations.
“My determination is intact. France is committed to pursuing the struggle against terrorism, for democracy and for freedom,” he said in a statement from his holiday residence in the French Riviera.
“This is a just cause, it is an honour for France and for its army to defend it.”
US forces provided air support in the battle, after which the Taliban said it had destroyed several military vehicles.
“Serious measures, notably in the air, were taken to support and extricate our men caught in an extremely violent ambush,” Mr Sarkozy said.
Mr Morin estimated casualties on the Taliban side at 30 dead and 30 wounded.
The French losses drew sympathy from other countries which have suffered heavy losses in Afghanistan, where extremist violence has grown every year with more foreign and Al-Qa'ida-linked fighters believed involved.
US President George W. Bush offered his condolences, as did the leaders of Britain and Canada, other key contributors to the ISAF deployment.

Update: Stephen Fitzpatrick, Jakarta | August 06, 2008 LAWYERS for the three death-row Bali bombers have lodged a last-ditch appeal they hope will delay their clients' executions for up to two years. The appeal, in Indonesia's Constitutional Court, will argue that the country's method of execution - - by firing squad - - is inhumane. However a spokesman from the Attorney-General's office dismissed the move yesterday, saying it would have no impact on plans to execute Imam Samudra, Amrozi bin Nurhasyim and Ali Ghufron, aka Mukhlas. "There is no plan to put off the executions," said the spokesman, Bonaventura Daulat Nainggolan. "We are continuing with preparations." Indonesia's Constitutional Court operates outside the legal justice system so the appeal does not automatically figure in the normal avenue of options open to a convicted person. The court's Chief Justice, Jimly Assidique, said last week that should an appeal be lodged, he would hope the criminal system would respect it by delaying the men's executions. However Justice Minister Andi Mattalatta yesterday described the Constitutional Court review as "irrelevant" to the carrying out of a criminal sentence, saying "execution is one thing; the constitutional court is another". Lawyer for the bombers Wirawan Adnan said he expected the matter to take up to two years in the Constitutional Court, "but if the prosecution wants to execute, that's up to them; (although) I predict they will wait". The three men could be executed within days, with Attorney-General Hendarman Supandji saying recently he hoped the sentence would be carried out "before Ramadan" - the main Muslim religious period, which begins in three weeks. Preparations have already been made on the remote southern Java prison island of Nusakambangan for their deaths. There is expected to be a violent outcry from hardline Muslims to the executions, particularly in the East Java hometown of Amrozi and Mukhlas. Source: The Australian
By Sophie Borland 02nd August 2008 British Muslims are fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan, a former commander of UK forces has warned. Brigadier Ed Butler, who spent six months leading servicemen in the Helmand province, said he has seen evidence that Muslims born in the UK are aiding Taliban and Al Qaeda attacks on coalition troops. 'There are British passport holders who live in the UK who are being found in places like Kandahar,' said the brigadier, Commander of Joint Force Operations. Terror groups in southern Afghanistan are also plotting with British extremists to carry out attacks in the UK, he added. 'There is a link between Kandahar and urban conurbations in the UK. This is something the military understands but the British public does not.'
The warning from the brigadier, 46, supports evidence earlier this year that RAF Nimrod spyplanes monitoring Taliban radio signals in Afghanistan had heard militants speaking with Yorkshire and Midlands accents.
They spoke mainly in Afghan Persian or Pashto, but occasionally lapsed into English.
In 2006, Brigadier Butler warned the Government of the possibility British soldiers would end up killing British Muslims fighting with the Taliban and Al Qaeda. He told The Daily Telegraph that British forces had been surprised at the strength of the Taliban.
The Army knew they 'would be up for a fight, but we were surprised at how ferocious that fight turned out to be'.
Brigadier Butler, who is married with two children, believes that the presence of extremist British Muslims in southern Afghanistan is one of the reasons-British forces must remain there.
'If we do not win against the protagonists of the September 11 attacks, then those who are against us will take great succour from it.'
It is vital for British troops to remain in Afghanistan 'for as long as it takes', to prevent a repeat of the July 7 bombings in London, in 2005, he added.
Brigadier Butler commanded the British forces in Helmand when they were first deployed.
He described the operation as the 'most challenging mission I have ever done in my career'. The brigadier is the grandson of Richard 'Rab' Butler, the former Conservative minister. A former head of the SAS, he has received awards including Distinguished Service Order and a CBE. But he is to retire from the Army next year, in part because of the impact his career was having on his family life. Last year, his son, 14, developed complications from appendicitis and was, for a time, very ill. 'It was one of those wake-up calls you get where you think, "have I got the right balance between work and family?"' When his son told him, 'I don't want you to be a part-time dad', he 'reached the conclusion that I did not want to leave my family any more for an extended period. Life is too short.' He also spoke of the burden that modern combat operations place on officers. 'I buried eight of my soldiers when I was a commanding officer, and I have no pride in saying that. 'When you have sat down in the front rooms of eight families to console them on their loss, it is an exhausting process.' Source: Daily Mail UK

OSAMA bin Laden's driver was so close to al-Qaeda's inner circle he knew the target of the fourth hijacked jetliner in the September 11 attacks, a war crimes trial has been told. Salim Hamdan's lawyer says the Yemeni, who was held for nearly seven years before his trial, was simply a paid employee of the fugitive al-Qaeda leader, a driver in the motor pool who never joined the militant group or plotted attacks on America. But prosecutor Timothy Stone told the six-member jury of US military officers who will decide Hamdan's guilt or innocence at the trial at Guantanamo Bay that Hamdan had inside knowledge of the 2001 attacks on the US because he overheard a conversation between bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri. "Virtually no one knew the intended target, but the accused knew," Mr Stone said. Mr Hamdan, a father of two with little education, entered a not guilty plea to charges of conspiracy and providing material support for terrorism on Monday, the opening day of the first US war crimes trial since World War II. He could face life in prison if convicted. United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania. US officials have never stated it was shot down although rumours saying that abound to this day. Prosecutors have said Hamdan had direct access to al-Qaeda's leaders. Mr Stone told the jury Hamdan earned the trust of bin Laden during a trial period from 1996 to 1998 and helped him flee after attacks on US embassies in east Africa in 1998 and the September 11 attacks. "He served as bodyguard, driver, transported and delivered weapons, ammunition and supplies to al-Qaeda," Mr Stone said. Hamdan is being tried in a hilltop courthouse at the US navy base in Guantanamo Bay, which has been a lightning rod for criticism of the US since early 2002, when it began housing a prison camp to hold alleged Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters from the battlefields of Afghanistan.
