Profiles of American Islamofascists: The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
Borne of an effort to scuttle hopes for a negotiated Middle East peace, CAIR was listed among organizations tied to the Muslim Brotherhood's American network. Its founders emerged from a separate Islamic organization that two courts have found played a supporting role for the terrorist group Hamas.
The Washington, D.C.-based organization purports to be a "leading advocate for justice and mutual understanding" and claims to speak for the majority of American Muslims. However, after a careful review of the history, activities, statements, and causes of and by CAIR, it seems that its primary goals are to silence and de-legitimize its critics and redefine what it means to be a moderate Muslim. And when it comes to U.S. efforts to crack down on terrorists and their financiers, CAIR takes an almost visceral stand in opposition. This has the effect of undermining the legitimate security-related concerns and campaigns of the United States and its allies. Of Fatwas and Infidels
The Shoura Council last week defeated a proposal to adopt a law promoting respect for other religions and religious symbols. The proposal that would have had the blessings of the Arab League was opposed by 77 members and supported by 33.
In his reason for voting against the proposal, one member told Al-Watan newspaper that the negative effects might outweigh the positive ones as it would give legality to nonmonotheistic religions and consequently it would allow the building of houses of worship for those religions in Muslim countries.

The Bangladesh Man Islamists Cannot Silence
He fired the first salvo in 2003 and has been sticking his thumb in Islamist eyes ever since. Bangladeshi journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury describes himself as a "Muslim Zionist." He is unabashedly pro-US, pro-Israel, and anti-Islamist. More importantly, he remains all of that from within the Muslim world, which he refuses to leave. I have fielded any number of asylum requests for him, and he declined them all. "Retreat is not in my vocabulary," he says, for he believes that if he were to leave his country, his credibility would be gone, and Islamists would claim victory; a satisfaction he refuses to give them. "Bangladesh is my country," he says. "Let the radicals leave!"
Since 2003, we have fought not only a battle of ideas but also a battle of wills with our adversaries; and the skirmishes never end. Shoaib has been imprisoned and tortured. He has been beaten, and Islamists bombed his newspaper before they and their cronies in the ruling party seized the premises. All of this happened after Shoaib published articles that exposed the rising strength of Islamist radicals in Bangladesh, urged relations with Israel, and advocated genuine interfaith dialogue based on religious equality. Has the Organization of Islamic States (OIC) lost all faith in assassination and suicide bomber attacks as a means of putting an end to the ceaseless literary and artistic assaults on Islam? Has the OIC lost its nerve? Perhaps.
What if the United Nations' Human Rights Commission should find the gumption to issue a vigorous condemnation of some future terrorist act? The UN has made many allowances for over-zealousness on the part of Islam but there have been stirrings in the West of late. Theo van Gogh's murder did not cow Rooster Cogburn or Tom Tancredo - it angered them. There has been talk in some circles of Thomas Jefferson and Richard the Lion-Heart, to stand up for the First Amendment, for freedom of the press, for freedom of expression. Scary. Hate and Terror Awarded
On September 27, 2007, the head of the Michigan office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Michigan), Dawud Walid, was presented with a "special recognition" award by the Mayor of Lansing, Michigan, Virg Bernero. This took place only two months after Walid publicly defended two terror-related charities and during a federal trial against leaders of another terror charity, for which CAIR was named a co-conspirator.
Michigan is home to a significant radical Islamist community. One of its shining stars is an individual by the name of Dawud Walid. His activity within extremist Muslim groups is a matter of record.
First and foremost, Walid is involved with CAIR-Michigan, as the organization's Executive Director. CAIR recently was designated by the United States government as an "unindicted co-conspirator" for a federal trial that ran from July through October of 2007, which dealt with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas. During the trial, the FBI provided testimony proving CAIR's involvement with the former head of Hamas, Mousa Abu Marzook, in his American Palestine Committee.

BAGHDAD - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki pledged "no retreat" Thursday in the fight against Shiite militias in the southern city of Basra, as thousands of protesters demanded he resign over the crackdown and extremists fired rockets into the U.S.-protected Green Zone.
Shiite militia leader Muqtada al-Sadr called Thursday for a political solution to the burgeoning crisis and an end to the "shedding of Iraqi blood." But the statement, released by a close aide, stopped short of ordering his Mahdi Army militia to halt attacks on the Green Zone or stop fighting in Basra, Iraq's second-largest city.
In a sign of the deteriorating security, gunmen in Baghdad seized a high-profile government spokesman from his home in a Shiite neighborhood, killing three of his bodyguards and torching his house. In a bid to curb the violence, Iraq's military ordered vehicles and pedestrians off the streets of the capital until Sunday morning.
As Americans and Iraqis scrambled to cope with a newly violent Iraq, the State Department ordered all personnel at the U.S. Embassy not to leave reinforced structures because of continued incoming rocket or mortar fire from suspected Shiite extremists angry over the Basra crackdown. Read more ...

FP: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is often portrayed as some kind of "moderate," the great alternative to Hamas that can help bring peace to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The U.S. is banking on him. But what kind of moderate is he really? First and foremost, isn’t this a terrorist who rejects the Jewishness of Israel?
Levin: You're certainly right that by no coherent definition is Abbas a moderate. He has refused to acknowledge the basic tenet of the 1947 United Nations resolution calling for establishment of a Jewish state and an Arab state in the British Mandate territory west of the Jordan. He has refused to endorse America's formulation of the goal of negotiations being a Jewish state and Arab state living side by side in peace. He has refused to recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state in any part of the former Mandate. He continues to insist on the so-called "right of return" of Palestinian Arabs whose forebearers had lived in what is now Israel; that is, he insists Palestinians should have a right to move to and live in the Palestinian state established beside Israel and also have the right to move to Israel. McCain Supports Radical Muslims in Kosovo
If the media are on the lookout for gaffes by the presidential campaigns, they missed a big one on Wednesday, when Cindy McCain met with Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci in Kosovo's capital Pristina, while her husband was giving a major foreign policy speech calling for "new foundations for a stable and enduring peace." Kosovo's declaration of independence, which McCain accepts and was implicitly recognized by Cindy McCain's visit to Pristina, is a major threat to global peace and security. It could spark a U.S. war with Russia.
It may be asking too much, however, for the media to cover a gaffe like this. The Kosovo policy is a bipartisan blunder. For the liberal media, Iraq, where McCain differs with Hillary and Obama about the length of stay of the U.S. military, seems to be the only foreign policy issue worth talking about. But the U.S. faces other major problems.
We need to recall that the war against the former Yugoslavia was depicted by the liberal media as a worthwhile humanitarian intervention. But it was waged on the basis of Clinton Administration lies of a "genocide" being waged against Albanian Muslims in Kosovo, a province of Serbia. In fact, the Clinton Administration's NATO war against Yugoslavia probably cost more lives than were lost in the civil war in Kosovo. Serbian troops were forced to withdraw in exchange for an international guarantee that Serbia would retain sovereignty over Kosovo but the province would get substantial autonomy. The U.S. agreed to that, but that agreement was violated when the Bush Administration, with backing from McCain and Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, recently recognized Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia. Indictment Ties U.S. Citizen to Hussein
Federal prosecutors charged a former Islamic charity official with working for ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's intelligence service, including helping to organize a visit to Baghdad for members of Congress.
Through an intermediary, the Iraqi intelligence service paid the delegation's $34,000 in expenses for the September 2002 trip that Muthanna al-Hanooti, an Iraqi-born American citizen, helped to organize, prosecutors said in court documents filed in U.S. District Court for Michigan's Eastern District.
Mr. al-Hanooti, the indictment says, acted as a U.S. contact for the Iraqi intelligence service, helping to identify members of Congress who might support Iraq's efforts to lift U.S. sanctions against Mr. Hussein's government.
The indictment doesn't identify the members of Congress who took the Iraq trip, and prosecutors don't suggest the members of Congress were aware of Mr. al-Hanooti's Iraq ties. Two congressional delegations made trips to Iraq in September 2002, aiming to help avert the war.
One in late September included then-Rep. David Bonior (D., Mich.), Rep. Mike Thompson (D., Calif.) and Rep. Jim McDermott (D., Wash.). Mr. Bonior couldn't be reached for comment. Rep. Thompson issued a statement saying the trip was approved by the State Department and sponsored by a group licensed by the Treasury Department. He added: "Obviously, had there been any question at all regarding the sponsor of the trip or the funding, I would not have participated."
Mike DeCesare, a spokesman for Rep. McDermott, said the congressman doesn't know Mr. al-Hanooti and doesn't recall meeting him. The congressman joined the trip at the invitation of a Seattle church group, which "wanted him to go to Iraq to see the plight of Iraqi children," Mr. DeCesare said.
An earlier visit in mid-September included Democratic Rep. Nick Rahall of West Virginia and former Democratic Sen. James Abourezk of South Dakota. The Institute for Public Accuracy, a public-policy and media think tank, paid all expenses for that trip, according to Norman Solomon, the institute's executive director.
Mr. Solomon says he organized and went on the trip and has never heard of Mr. al-Hanooti. Mr. Abourezk says he doesn't know Mr. al-Hanooti. Mr. Rahall's office said he wasn't available for comment.
Mr. al-Hanooti worked for the Life for Relief and Development charity, in Southfield, Mich., and also led a related political consulting group called Focus on American and Arab Interests and Relations, the indictment says.
Prosecutors said that in compensation for his work, including arranging the trip, the former Iraqi government paid Mr. al-Hanooti with a contract for two million barrels of oil.
James Thomas, Mr. al-Hanooti's lawyer, said his client pleaded not guilty and "plans to vigorously defend himself" against the charges.
A person who answered the phone at the offices of Life for Relief and Development said Mr. al-Hanooti no longer works with the organization and said officials who could comment weren't available. The consulting group, now called Focus on Advocacy & Advancement of International Relations, didn't return a call requesting comment.

Islam and Free Speech
The Netherlands is bracing for a new round of violence at home and against its embassies in the Middle East. The storm would be caused by "Fitna," a short film that is scheduled to be released this week. The film, which reportedly includes images of a Quran being burned, was produced by Geert Wilders, a member of the Dutch parliament and leader of the Freedom Party. Mr. Wilders has called for banning the Quran -- which he has compared to Hitler's "Mein Kampf" -- from the Netherlands.
After concern about the film led Mr. Wilders's Internet service provider to take down his Web site, Mr. Wilders issued a statement this week that he will personally distribute DVDs "On the Dam" if he has to. That may not be necessary, as the Czech National Party has reportedly agreed to host the video on its Web site.
Reasonable men in free societies regard Geert Wilders's anti-Muslim rhetoric, and films like "Fitna," as disrespectful of the religious sensitivities of members of the Islamic faith. But free societies also hold freedom of speech to be a fundamental human right. We don't silence, jail or kill people with whom we disagree just because their ideas are offensive or disturbing. We believe that when such ideas are openly debated, they sink of their own weight and attract few followers.
Our country allows fringe groups like the American Nazi Party to demonstrate, as long as they are peaceful. Americans are permitted to burn the national flag. In 1989, when so-called artist Andres Serrano displayed his work "Piss Christ" -- a photo of a crucifix immersed in a bottle of urine -- Americans protested peacefully and moved to cut off the federal funding that supported Mr. Serrano. There were no bombings of museums. No one was killed over this work that was deeply offensive to Christians.
Criticism of Islam, however, has led to violence and murder world-wide. Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie over his 1988 book, "The Satanic Verses." Although Mr. Rushdie has survived, two people associated with the book were stabbed, one fatally. The 2005 Danish editorial cartoons lampooning the prophet Muhammad led to numerous deaths. Dutch director Theodoor van Gogh was killed in 2004, several months after he made the film "Submission," which described violence against women in Islamic societies. Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former Dutch member of parliament who wrote the script for "Submission," received death threats over the film and fled the country for the United States.
The violence Dutch officials are anticipating now is part of a broad and determined effort by the radical jihadist movement to reject the basic values of modern civilization and replace them with an extreme form of Shariah. Shariah, the legal code of Islam, governed the Muslim world in medieval times and is used to varying degrees in many nations today, especially in Saudi Arabia.
Radical jihadists are prepared to use violence against individuals to stop them from exercising their free speech rights. In some countries, converting a Muslim to another faith is a crime punishable by death. While Muslim clerics are free to preach and proselytize in the West, some Muslim nations severely restrict or forbid other faiths to do so. In addition, moderate Muslims around the world have been deemed apostates and enemies by radical jihadists.
Radical jihadists believe representative government is un-Islamic, and urge Muslims who live in democracies not to exercise their right to vote. The reason is not hard to understand: When given a choice, most Muslims reject the extreme approach to Islam. This was recently demonstrated in Iraq's Anbar Province, which went from an al-Qaeda stronghold to an area supporting the U.S.-led coalition. This happened because the populace came to intensely dislike the fanatical ways of the radicals, which included cutting off fingers of anyone caught smoking a cigarette, 4 p.m. curfews, beatings and beheadings. There also were forced marriages between foreign-born al Qaeda fighters and local Sunni women.
There may be a direct relationship between the radical jihadists' opposition to democracy and their systematic abuse of women. Women have virtually no rights in this radical world: They must conceal themselves, cannot hold jobs, and have been subjected to honor killings. Would most women in Muslim countries vote for a candidate for public office who supported such oppressive rules?
Not all of these radicals are using violence to supplant democratic society with an extreme form of Shariah. Some in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark are attempting to create parallel Islamic societies with separate courts for Muslims. According to recent press reports, British officials are investigating the cases of 30 British Muslim school-age girls who "disappeared" for probable forced marriages.
While efforts to create parallel Islamic societies have been mostly peaceful, they may actually be a jihadist "waiting game," based on the assumption that the Islamic populations of many European states will become the majority over the next 25-50 years due to higher Muslim birth rates and immigration.
What is particularly disturbing about these assaults against modern society is how the West has reacted with appeasement, willful ignorance, and a lack of journalistic criticism. Last year PBS tried to suppress "Islam vs. Islamists: Voices from the Muslim Center," a hard-hitting documentary that contained criticism of radical jihadists. Fortunately, Fox News agreed to air the film.
Even if the new Wilders film proves newsworthy, it is likely that few members of the Western media will air it, perhaps because they have been intimidated by radical jihadist threats. The only major U.S. newspaper to reprint any of the controversial 2005 Danish cartoons was Denver's Rocky Mountain News. You can be sure that if these cartoons had mocked Christianity or Judaism, major American newspapers would not have hesitated to print them.
European officials have been similarly cautious. A German court ruled last year that a German Muslim man had the right to beat his wife, as this was permitted under Shariah. Britain's Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, stated last month that the implementation of some measure of Shariah in Britain was "unavoidable" and British Muslims should have the choice to use Shariah in marital and financial matters.
I do not defend the right of Geert Wilders to air his film because I agree with it. I expect I will not. (I have not yet seen the film). I defend the right of Mr. Wilders and the media to air this film because free speech is a fundamental right that is the foundation of modern society. Western governments and media outlets cannot allow themselves to be bullied into giving up this precious right due to threats of violence. We must not fool ourselves into believing that we can appease the radical jihadist movement by allowing them to set up parallel societies and separate legal systems, or by granting them special protection from criticism.
A central premise of the American experiment are these words from the Declaration of Independence: "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." There are similar statements in the U.S. Constitution, British Common Law, the Napoleonic Code and the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights. As a result, hundreds of millions in the U.S. and around the world enjoy freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion and many other rights.
These liberties have been won through centuries of debate, conflict and bloodshed. Radical jihadists want to sacrifice all we have learned by returning to a primitive and intolerant world. While modern society invites such radicals to peacefully exercise their faith, we cannot and will not sacrifice our fundamental freedoms.

Palestinian Who Masterminded 2002 Hotel Bombing Captured, Israeli Military Says
Omar Jabar had been on the run since the March 2002 bombing at a hotel in the Israeli city of Netanya.
In the attack, the bomber blew himself up during a dinner celebrating the Jewish holiday of Passover.
Thirty people were killed and nearly 150 were wounded. The attack sparked a large Israeli military operation in the West Bank.
The army says Jabar planned the attack and dispatched the bomber to the hotel. It says Jabar was arrested early Wednesday in the West Bank.

Some CAIR Officials Convicted of Crimes, More Tied to Extremist Groups
The questionable associations and actions by many of its leaders cast serious doubt on CAIR's claims of moderation and restraint. Some have committed criminal acts themselves; others have ties to organizations with connections to Islamic extremism.
Those convicted of direct criminal activity include Ghassan Elashi, a founding board member of CAIR-Texas; Randall (Ismail) Royer, once a communications specialist for the national group, and Bassam Khafagi, the organization's one-time director of community relations.

Ghassan Elashi, who attended a 1993 Philadelphia meeting called by Hamas to discuss derailing U.S. peace initiatives, was convicted in 2004 on six criminal counts, including making false statements, conspiracy to violate the Export Administration Regulations and the Libyan Sanctions Regulations, and conspiracy to file false shipper's export declaration forms. He was a defendant again in the 2007 Hamas-support trial of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF), where jurors were unable to reach unanimous verdicts on the charges against him. Read more ...

The Middle East's Gathering Storm
U.S. vice-president Richard Cheney and Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert met twice in Jerusalem this week in talks described as “shrouded in mystery.” The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office didn’t even issue a statement; Olmert’s spokesman only said that Cheney and Olmert “discussed a range of issues, including the peace process, terrorism and threats to regional security.”
“Threats to regional security”-sounds a lot like Iran. One hopes the two leaders’ talks had enough seriousness to offset Cheney’s standard inanities in his joint Ramallah press conference with Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday.
At that event Cheney said that terrorism and rockets kill not only innocent civilians but also “the legitimate hopes and aspirations of the Palestinian people,” that the U.S. remained “strongly committed” to creating a Palestinian state that was “long overdue,” and that this would require “painful concessions on both sides.” Read more ...

Fury over plan to let imams teach the Koran in state schools
children to practise their faith
They should make arrangements for pupils to be given "instruction" in their own religion during the normal school day and rights to pray and worship instead of attending regular assemblies, the National Union of Teachers said.
Schools should also allow different uniform rules, serve meals that meet religious requirements such as halal and kosher, plan holidays around festivals and special days and provide private prayer rooms.
The call comes as new research today shows the numbers attending mosques in England and Wales will outstrip Roman Catholic churchgoers by 2020.
Christian Research expects Catholic worshippers at Sunday Mass to fall to 679,000 but Muslims at Friday prayer to increase to 683,000. The figures also suggest the number of Muslims at mosques will overtake Church of England members at Sunday services.
Under today's radical plan from teachers' leaders, designed to overhaul faith-based education, the NUT called on ministers to abandon the historic daily act of Christian worship in favour of "inclusive" school assemblies.
Existing faith schools should be stripped of rights to select pupils on the basis of the religion they practise to prevent them "discriminating" against others and fuelling community tensions, the document said.
The blueprint, from the most left-wing of the three main teaching unions, is aimed at undermining faith schools by encouraging religious parents to consider non-faith community schools instead.
NUT leaders argued that requiring schools to cater for all religions would limit demand for faith schools and bring children of different backgrounds together. Read more ...

Italy: Islamist website attacks Vatican baptism
The site, linked to the Islamist Hamas movement in the Palestinian territories says that Allam was nominally Muslim, and that he admitted to have never practised Islam and to have never prayed in his life.
The website also blasted the Western press for saying that Allam was "a prominent Muslim", and the "truth is that he was neither Muslim nor prominent."
"The problem lies in the vindictive atmosphere surrounding the conversion ceremony, including the anti-Islamic allusions and insinuations," says the article.
Allam was also quoted in a book that he wrote titled "Long Live Israel", saying that "the root of evil is innate in an Islam that is physiologically violent and historically conflictual." Read more ...

Why Do Palestinians Get Much More Attention than Tibetans?
The long-suffering Tibetans have been in the news. This happens perhaps once or twice a decade. In a more moral world, however, public opinion would be far more preoccupied with Tibetans than with Palestinians, would be as harsh on China as it is on Israel, and would be as fawning on Israel as it now is on China.
But, alas, the world is, as it has always been, a largely mean-spirited and morally insensitive place, where might is far more highly regarded than right.
Consider the facts: Tibet, at least 1,400 years old, is one of the world's oldest nations, has its own language, its own religion and even its own ethnicity. Over 1 million of its people have been killed by the Chinese, its culture has been systematically obliterated, 6,000 of its 6,200 monasteries have been looted and destroyed, and most of its monks have been tortured, murdered or exiled.
Palestinians have none of these characteristics. There has never been a Palestinian country, never been a Palestinian language, never been a Palestinian ethnicity, never been a Palestinian religion in any way distinct from Islam elsewhere. Indeed, "Palestinian" had always meant any individual living in the geographic area called Palestine. For most of the first half of the 20th century, "Palestinian" and "Palestine" almost always referred to the Jews of Palestine. The United Jewish Appeal, the worldwide Jewish charity that provided the nascent Jewish state with much of its money, was actually known as the United Palestine Appeal. Compared to Tibetans, few Palestinians have been killed, its culture has not been destroyed nor its mosques looted or plundered, and Palestinians have received billions of dollars from the international community. Funding Ties With HLF and Foreign Donors Show CAIR's True Agenda
The Council on American-Islamic Relation (CAIR)'s financing over the years challenges its self-description as a benevolent group out to protect the civil rights of the Muslim community in the United States.
The clichéd admonition to "follow the money" gives a clear picture of the group's actual role as an enabler for organizations linked by the U.S. government to Islamic terrorism, prominently including the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF).
Indeed it shows a two-way flow of support both to and from HLF, which since has been named as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organization and indicted on charges of providing material support to Hamas. Our examination of CAIR focuses today on its finances.
HLF made a $5,000 donation to the then-newly formed CAIR as early as 1994. Apparently sensitive to the impact public disclosure of their group's funding by HLF could have, CAIR's leaders repeatedly denied any such connection. Read more ...

Target of Jihad
Wafa Sultan appeared on Al-Jazeera again earlier this month, and the shock waves are still reverberating throughout the Islamic world. The day after her appearance Al-Jazeera issued a public apology for her "offensive" remarks, but did not specify what exactly she said that was so terrible. Last week, however, the influential Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi was not so circumspect. Qaradawi, whom Saudi-funded academic John Esposito has praised as a "reformist," in 2006 exhorted Muslims to fight against Israel by invoking the notorious genocidal hadith in which Muhammad says that on the Day of Judgment "even the stones and the trees will speak, with or without words, and say: 'Oh servant of Allah, oh Muslim, there's a Jew behind me, come and kill him.'" But now he has directed his rage against Sultan, a fifty-year-old Syrian-American psychologist: "She said unbearable, ghastly things that made my hair stand on end." Specifically, "she had the audacity to publicly curse Allah, His Prophet, the Koran, the history of Islam, and the Islamic nation." Beat Up Western Tourists - Radical Muslim Cleric

Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Bashir has returned to his hardline rhetoric with a call for followers to beat up Western tourists and for young Muslims to die as martyrs.
“The youth movement here must aspire to a martyrdom death,” said the cleric, who was convicted of conspiracy over the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, but was later cleared and released from prison.
“The young must be first at the front line - don’t hide at the back. You must be at the front, die as martyrs and all your sins will be forgiven. This is how to achieve forgiveness.”
“Immediately after Abu Bakar Bashir was released from incarceration he was very cautious in spreading hatred,” said Rohan Gunaratna, head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University.
“The remarks show that Abu Bakar Bashir has gone back to the pre-incarceration period where he was in a very similar way urging JI members, encouraging JI members to move in the direction of violence, especially violence including terrorism.”
The cleric has warned of retribution should the Bali bombers be executed by firing squad.
Bashir likened non-Muslims to crawling animals. “Worms, snakes, maggots - those are animals that crawl. Take a look at Bali … those infidel tourists. They are naked.”
He called for signs to be erected across Indonesia warning tourists they were entering a Muslim area, and directing they cover up appropriately.
But in east Java, he urged the Islamist youth to “beat up” foreigners.
“God willing, there are none here,” Bashir said. “If there were infidels here, just beat them up. Do not tolerate them.”
Bashir has never sought to hide his support for the Mujahideen, or holy warriors, who seek to wage jihad and die as martyrs in defence of Islam. However, he has in the past been careful to distance himself from the Bali bombings, praising the bombers’ intention but not their method.
Dr Gunaratna said the radical nature of Bashir’s current sermons showed that Indonesia’s legal system was still not equipped to police terrorism.
“The very fact that Abu Bakar Bashir is spreading hatred and ideological extremism is testimony to the fact that Australia has failed in engagement with Indonesia to build a robust Indonesian counter-terrorism legislation,” Dr Gunaratna said.
Bashir’s address contained many direct challenges to Indonesian secularism.
The cleric urged his supporters to reject the laws of the nation’s parliament and said following state laws that contradicted Islamic Shariah law was an act of “blasphemy.”
“Don’t be scared if you are called a hardliner Muslim,” Bashir said. “It must be like that. We can’t follow human law that is in conflict with Allah’s law.” (In other words, if they are not Bashir's laws then they don't apply!)

CAIR Exposed: IPT Investigation into the Council on American-Islamic Relations
From the Hamas ties of its founders in 1994 to its solicitous stance toward accused terrorists today, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has demonstrated that its actual mission is far removed from the civil rights advocacy it claims to pursue.
Still standing as perhaps the clearest evidence of CAIR's insidious role, two key leaders of the group attended a 1993 meeting in Philadelphia called by Hamas members and supporters to devise a strategy for torpedoing the Oslo Accords aimed at Middle East peace.
An analysis of secret recordings of the meeting led the FBI to conclude that the gathering was held "to determine… [the participants'] course of action in support of Hamas' opposition to the [Oslo] peace plan and to decide how to conceal their activities from the scrutiny of the United States government." JERUSALEM - Just days after it was announced the U.S. would transfer $150 million directly to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' government, members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group, the declared military wing of Abbas' Fatah party, were told they would receive cash grants, WND has learned.
According to Palestinian militant sources familiar with the issue, earlier this month, 20 members of the Brigades leadership in the West Bank city of Ramallah complained to PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad they did not have enough money to pay their bills, including, for many of them, rent for their apartments. Can a film save a country? Geert Wilders is betting that it can.
The courageous politician, a member of the Dutch Freedom Party, is currently locked in a battle against the jihadists who would overwhelm and Islamize his homeland. But as he stands in combat against the enemies of Holland's liberal, democratic society, a fifteen-minute film that no one has yet seen is one of his few weapons.
Scheduled for release before the end of March, the film is still a mystery. But one thing is certain: it will be explosive. Of the film, titled Fitna'(Chaos), Wilders has said that it would portray "the intolerant and fascistic character of the Koran." In an article in a Dutch newspaper, he explained that the fifteen-minute-long production would have a split screen that would show such things as a decapitation and a stoning on one side, while verses and sura from the Koran are read on the other. Wilders also wants the Koran banned, like Hitler's Mein Kampf, from his country. It is, he believes, a book of violence.
Not unexpectedly, Wilders's film has Europe's timid governments, especially that of the Netherlands, wringing their hands with worry and veering toward outright panic. NATO is concerned about attacks against its troops in Afghanistan, especially against Dutch troops serving there, and the Netherlands itself fears a terrorist attack at home or against its interests and nationals overseas. The Muslim Students Association and the Jihad Network
The following essay, adapted from the Introduction to this booklet, shows how, as early as the 1980s, operatives from the Muslim Brotherhood, parent group for al Qaeda and Hamas, formulated a blueprint for a "jihadist process" that would ultimately sabotage the "miserable house" of the United States. Dutch Filmmaker Faces Ongoing Difficulties In Releasing Movie For Public Viewing
Dutch MP Geert Wilders, after being unable to find a distributor for his anti-Islam film, has promised to put the movie on the Internet quickly, with April 1st as his projected deadline. However, now an American network provider has suspended Wilders' website after having received a number of complaints about the site.
The provider, Network Solutions, suspended the website today (Sunday) pending an investigation of the complaints and movie to see if the website conforms to its guidelines and to assure that there would be no violations of laws. Network Solutions' guidelines include banning material it deems harassing, hate propaganda, threatening, harmful, or "otherwise objectionable." The provider also expressed concerns about possible technical difficulties with providing the movie to online viewers, including "excessive use of services which shall impair the fair use of other Network Solutions customers".
Wilders' website ((www.fitnathemovie.com) has been advertizing the coming movie with the cover of a Koran on a black background with the text "Coming soon: Finta."
Geert Wilders is a far-right Dutch lawmaker who has been embroiled in controversy in his country for some time with regards to his anti-Islamic words, as well as for publicizing his movie plans, in spite of complaints from religious groups and warnings of violent, worldwide protests that the movie could cause. The 15-minute film he plans to release is one that attacks Islam and the Koran, claiming that it would show the Koran as a "fascist book." The proposed movie has already drawn complaints from several Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt, Iran and Afghanistan.

No one has seen the film in its entirety yet but a Dutch paper which has seen some of the opening images from the film, said it shows the cover of the Koran and then images of "a decapitation in Iraq, a stoning in Iran and an execution in Saudi Arabia, where sharia (Islamic law) is applied".
Dutch officials have unsuccessfully urged him to drop the project, fearing a repeat of the violent protests that erupted in many countries when European newspapers printed cartoons mocking theProphet Mohammed.
Wilders has said that he will release the film "before April 1", posting it on the Internet because he cannot find a broadcaster willing to carry it.
Computer experts have warned that controversy surrounding the movie could cause network mayhem once it is put online, if too many people try to view it at the same time.
Wilders has repeatedly stated that the content of his film will not violate Dutch law.
On Friday a Dutch Muslim association filed a legal claim asking a court to appoint a panel of censors to view the film before it is aired in order to see if there is a reason to ban it.
The court is set to deliver its ruling next Friday but Wilders has said that he would try to release the film before than to avoid having to show it to censors.
Dutch film-maker and polemicist Theo Van Gogh was murdered by an Islamic extremist in Amsterdam in 2004 after he made a short film attacking Islam's treatment of women.
Forgive my naïveté as I submit this story to Muslims Against Sharia ... here I sit in the United States, a woman who today is celebrating the holiest of days for Christians, Easter. I am puzzled with all the violent protests over the Muhammed cartoons from last year, and now puzzled even more as a Dutchman attempts to air a movie he feels passionately about. He is even facing strict control from the Dutch government -- one of the most liberal in the world. And yet, as a Christian, I face a lot of attacks on Christianity. Hollywood loves to portray Christians as idiots, back-water hicks, and hypocritical dimwits while on the other hand frequently portraying Jesus Christ as a psychopath and/or homosexual in the attempt to promote the entertainment industry's agendas. Artists have portrayed some works that were quite blasphemous, such as the infamous "Piss Christ"-- a crucifix photographed in a glass filled with urine. But, there were no violent protests against such hate-filled, christophobic displays of "art."
On the flipside, I can worship freely. I am able to buy a Bible easily, attend church openly, wear a cross around my neck if I wish, or put some cliché bumpersticker on my car. I can practice my faith openly, and so can my Muslim and Jewish brethren. It's not a perfect system, but there is peace and freedom.We all know full well that with freedom comes responsibility. Giving people the right to choose, to live freely, is a very difficult and delicate balance. But, a free society is an open society, and an open society is a free society. And freedom must be closely guarded. High-Profile Figure Under Threat Due To Conversion
Allam, who has been a fierce critic of Islamic extremism, a supporter of Israel, and a defender of the Pope when in 2006 the Pope described the Muslim faith as being violent, is now under protection of the police due to threats he has received. In fact, Allam's conversion was kept secret and not disclosed by the Vatican until an hour before the Easter eve service started.
Reuters reports that Allam, whom some have called the Italy's Salmon Rushdie, has been living in Italy for 35 years, and has said he was never a very devout Muslim. Still, his conversion to Christianity came as a surprise.
"What amazes me is the high profile the Vatican has given this conversion," Yaha Sergio Yahe Pallavicini, vice-president of the Italian Islamic Religious Community, told Reuters.

Hilali protest at cartoons

CONTROVERSIAL Muslim cleric Taj Din al-Hilali yesterday rallied his supporters against the publication of cartoons insulting to Mohammed, just a day after Osama bin Laden denounced the European Union over the same issue in a new videotape.
At his sermon at Australia's biggest mosque, in the southwest Sydney suburb of Lakemba, Sheik Hilali said the cartoons, published in a Danish newspaper in 2005 - and republished last month - showed the "hatred and envy" felt by the West against Islam.
He said today's sermon at the mosque would be followed by a march to a nearby park to protest against the cartoons.
"The West announces holding a competition for caricatures that insult the Messenger of God, may he be blessed," Sheik Hilali said. Read more ...
